Piracy is using technically illegal methods to gain ownership of a product or service that you would otherwise have to pay for.

I'm not going to say that piracy is a serious crime at all, or even one worth punishing in most cases. I'm not going to say that piracy has a large effect on companies. I'm not going to say that everyone who pirates something would definitely pay for it if they weren't pirating (although I don't accept the argument that none of them would either.)

What I will say is that piracy is not good. It's not the worst crime in the world, but it pisses me off when people try to justify it with faulty reasons or irrelevant examples.

Oh dead god copying a fie from the internet is the worst of crimes! hey man did you see that bastard steal that movie from the internets? now no one else can see it! MY god, the creator and its cast are already homeless!

"Hello 911 some homeless guy broke into my house and took almost all of my savings"
"Where is your address sir?"
"123 upper middle class avenue"
"Well you're far richer than the guy who stole from you so fuck off."

That ain't how it works. If someone works for their money, then it's theirs. There is no cut off point. Higher earners have higher taxes to pay, even if a lot of it is wrote off as business expenses. They also employ hundreds/thousands of people and have been far more beneficial to the worlds economy that your freeloading ass.

And i'm not saying not to pirate. I know I can't change your mind in a comment, but don't fucking pretend like you're not doing anything wrong or try to justify it.
User avatar #73 - askafj (07/07/2014) [-]
when you steal a couch, the couch is gone.
when you steal a movie, the movie isn't gone.

your comparison was very poor.

I am not on any side of this, and since you clearly haven't been on the internet for more than 1 year, I'm not going to argue anymore with you.
#83 - blancka (07/07/2014) [-]
If everyone steals a couch, nobody buys one. If nobody buys couches, those who made the fucking couch become unemployed. Not only does it negatively affect those who made the couch, but it leads to future couch companies only making cheap, poor quality but guaranteed money products hurting the consumer in terms of quality.

"Other people pay so I don't have to" is literally the only thing even relatively close to a justification in a scenario comparing physical stealing to digital, but it's absolutely retarded logic that sounds like a 3 year old going through the "mine" phase
User avatar #123 - askafj (07/08/2014) [-]
you must be retarded.

you CAN'T compare a couch to a movie.
someone BUYS the couch before it gets stolen. So it is a bought couch.
if someone steals the couch, then the previous owners of the couch will probably buy a new one.

It's not like you can download a fucking couch, you moron.
#124 - blancka (07/08/2014) [-]
With media, physicality is worthless. Packaging has almost no value, hence you are stealing the only valuable part of the item.
User avatar #125 - askafj (07/08/2014) [-]
Yeah but the couch DISAPPEARS, the movies DOESNT.
#126 - blancka (07/08/2014) [-]
But the couch physically is little more than wood and whatever material is inside. While a couch may cost a few hundred dollars, the physical value is pretty small. You pay for the craftsmanship that went into it, which is not a physical item.
User avatar #127 - askafj (07/08/2014) [-]
How much does a movie cost to make?

How much does a couch cost to make?

How much does it cost to buy a movie?

How much does it cost to buy a couch?

DO YOU SEE IT NOW YOU SLOW FUCK.
#128 - blancka (07/08/2014) [-]
Movies last a few hours and are made to be seen by masses in each incarnation. You think couches would still be a few hundred dollars if they broke after 3 hours every time and you had to get a new one if you wanted to sit again?
User avatar #129 - askafj (07/08/2014) [-]
My point is that you can't compare couches and movies, you asshole

#132 - blancka (07/08/2014) [-]
cept i can and you're stuck in 1958 unable to comprehend that this is the digital age and theft of digital goods is still theft as currently in the world of mass media potential losses and actual losses are legally the same
User avatar #133 - askafj (07/08/2014) [-]
people gotta stop downloading cars ( its not right thing to do :s
you know people pay a lot to make cars and when you download it the value gets stolen (( if you steal a car in real life the car is still there since it has no value :/

This is what you sound like.

but if you downlood a murder the valuu doesnt cunt and its like no value :s
u shouldnt think that if you do that it could be something that happens with the thing you did and make it also much worse for the people that make it happen in the thing were you actually buy it :/

Except in that case the person would still have the 100 dollars
#55 - blancka (07/07/2014) [-]
wat?
User avatar #56 - bitchplzzz (07/07/2014) [-]
What Im saying is, piracy isnt stealing, its copying it, nothing is really lost. Except a sale. Which is why when you enjoy something you pirate you should pay them. Especially if they are new/poor devs.

But what Im also saying is, its not like you're murdering someone in the most hellish way if you pirate a block buster movie
#59 - blancka (07/07/2014) [-]
Except raw material value has been almost worthless for years. You steal a $50 game physically and you're stealing about $5 worth of materials. The cost comes from data.

Physicality is an absolutely pointless argument. "I'll pay for it if i like it" is not an excuse. You literally have all of the worlds information on every product at your fingertips online. 15 years ago most people didn't even have internet. You must be borderline retarded if you can't make intelligent decisions when buying goods or services with this information available to you, and your idiocy is not justification for your own made up rules.
User avatar #64 - bitchplzzz (07/07/2014) [-]
Dude whatever, I download a copy of a popular blockbuster movie, I seriouly doubt the entire cast suddenly will go homeless. and like I said, its a rather different thing if it's from an upcoming directory/company.

Also, I do think there is a really big difference in stealing an item and making a copy of software

With games however, I always will pirate. For many reasons such as jew tactic DLC, seeing if the game runs well or if its just a soulles husk of a sequel. That does not mean I do not have a steam account with a rather large library. Some games are even bought at full price, but thats just me.
#66 - blancka (07/07/2014) [-]
I steal a loaf of bread from a local shop. Shop owner won't go homeless. Doesn't make me any less of a scumbag for doing such a thing.

How do you find there to be a large difference between stealing and copying when you're getting literally a few cents worth of physical material in physical media and the vast majority of the price is for the infinitely copyable data on the disk?

If a game is good enough without DLC you can pay for it. If it's not then it's probably worth skipping anyway. Go to systemrequirementslab.com and you can see what will and won't run on your machine, only exception is exceptionally bad ports, which will be noted by media anyway. Bad sequels happen, there are hundreds of reviewers out there. Find some with similar opinions to you, listen to them.

You haven't made a single solid argument, and that's what makes you scum. It's not the act of pirating. Shit's so common nowadays that by the law of averages you're not exactly hitler, but damn. Don't fucking try to act like it's justified or not a scummy thing to do.
User avatar #68 - bitchplzzz (07/07/2014) [-]
You just dont get it do you?

Its not stealing, its making a copy.
Look at it like this, there is a football match at Stadium A but there is an entrance fee. There is stadium "B" in the next town where you can enter for free. I think, looking at it as just football, you get the same entertainment.

I never have and never will trust sysrequirements lab. GTA IV for a example was at launch a horrific port and would not run properly at the times current highest end hardware on PC. And you cant never fully judge a game unless you play it. Also, watching a gameplay vid should also be considered "stealing" because you're basically seeing and experiencing what the devs what you to see for 60 bucks

Also, I really dont fucking care what you think. Im not justifying it but some games do deserve the title of "if you really want to play it, dont buy, just pirate. its only slightly above shit tier." for reasons of the devs lying about content or it being an unoptimized piece of sht (for PC)

Guess what? I'll pirate all I like because I can. Right up untill it's illegal. And then I'll just google up a confirmed and trusted tutorial on how to avoid being tracked while downloading. Its as simple as that
#87 - Keavy (07/07/2014) [-]
If a game is only slightly above shit tier, you shouldn't really want to play it.

If you still really want to play it, you should pay for it like everyone else does.
#79 - blancka (07/07/2014) [-]
I've already explained how being physical only adds about a dollar worth of value to non-collectable media. You clearly lack basic understanding of this.

System requirements lab works. Whether you trust it or not. Like i said, outliers will be noted in media, and GTA 4 was massively hated on for poor optimisation. It's not like it wasn't easy to find this out.

Watching gameplay videos is allowed if the dev allows it. If not, it's not. Sega and nintendo have been noted for copyright claims on youtube videos. It's not stealing because it's permitted. Also, a game is not a movie. Watching is not the same as playing whatsoever.

And finally we reach the stage where you admit how bullshit every argument you are and the only justification you have is that you're a sleazy freeloader. Congrats, you've successfully wasted my time
User avatar #109 - bitchplzzz (07/07/2014) [-]
Yes well I'm a "sleazy freeloader" then. Me and a lot of other people dont really care about your labeling

This whole argument is about piracy being bad, it is, Im agreeing with that, but not how deviously evil up you make it to be
