well, if you loved Ocarina of Time then Kid links voice must've annoyed you as well? Wind Waker had some great graphics, and I think it fit perfectly with the story they told and what they were trying to do.

Like I said, it is a personal opinion. And the tones of voices are different, it's not easy to explain. The graphics I guess did fit with the nature and story of the game, but coming off of playing OoT, Majora's Mask, and Link to the Past on GBA. The cartoony graphics just didnt sit right with me personally.

I happen to think it's one of the best one, my favorite actually. Why do you think it's the weakest?

I personally don't like the art style and Link's voice was annoying in it. Sailing was an annoyance as well. I really like the darker themed Zelda games, OoT, Twilight Princess, Link to the Past. Wind Waker does have some really good music in it though. I understand a lot of people love Wind Waker and respect it, I just didn't care for it.

I can see where he's coming from. Wind waker had a much lighter tone than its predecessors. Take majora's mask for instance. that game scared the shit out of so many children.

Well, that lightheartedness can be said about Oracle of Ages, Seasons, Skyward Sword as well.

yeah, but there wasn't a really dark part in wind waker. all you're attempting to do is rescue your sister. then things just kinda go from there.

There were no real dark parts in Ocarina of Time either, the destruction of Hyrule town doesn't really count because then you'd count the destruction of Windfish island in Wind waker as well. Just because there isn't a dark part in Wind Waker doesn't mean its not a great addition to the series

Ocarina of time may not have had an extremely dark moment per say, but it had a darker atmosphere. Re-deads, the killing of gorons by volvagia, definitely dark. and I'm not saying it's a weak addition, I'm saying that I get where he's coming from.

What about the fact that the sages in the Earth and Wind temples were killed by ganondorf? or the fact that when Hyrule flooded, everybody who didn't flee to the mountain tops drowned? that's pretty dark

I admit that tidbit is dark, however, the bright colors and cartoony style take away from that. they kind of pull you into a false sense of security. And another thing, is that they never actually have a sort of animation in regards to the drowning or the sages. Its all to mostly in text. I may be wrong. I haven't played wind waker in a while.

I mean, overall I agree, OoT has a darker feel to it than Wind Waker, but it doesn't make wind waker a bad game

Also the fact that every area you go to symbolizes the stages of grief.

Clock Town-Denial
Everybody ignores the crashing moon in order to finish their festival.

Woodfall-Anger
The deku people blame the monkey for kidnapping their princess and try to punish him for it.

Snowhead-Bargaining
The gorons are in morning after the loss of their leader Darmani. When link finds the ghost of Darmani, he begs link to restore him to life with his magic. Link ends up turning him into a mask instead.

Great Bay-Depression
Everyone, especially Lulu, are saddened by the loss of Mikau and their zora eggs.

Ikana Valley-Acceptance
Land of the dead - what a fitting place for Link to resolve his own grief. Other regions had him encounter a plethora of characters, but everyone in Ikana is basically already dead. In much the same way, Link finds no new transformation masks here - no new identities to assume. This leaves Link free to reflect on the one element he’s been distracted from during the rest of his journey: himself.

In order to fulfill this process of examination, he climbs a tower leading into the heavens, which requires that he create twin images of himself to progress. These images, one for each of his four forms represent the empty shells of the previous four stages of grief. By leaving them behind, he can transcend and attain enlightenment - the Light Arrows - at the pinnacle of Stone Tower. The act of flipping the tower puts the heavens at his feet, assuring us of his ascendance.

By accepting and overcoming the grief associated with that emptiness, Link demonstrates that he is no longer troubled by the loss of his dear friend. He has found himself, his true self, and that is enough.

Expanding on this point, the fight with Majora's mask is the end result. If you get all the masks, you can trade them for the fierce deity mask, which turns link into an adult version of himself. This can be thought to show that link has really grown from all the trials he had to endure to obtain all the other masks and awake the guardians.

Perhaps I can blow your mind further. Ever heard of the theory that the Hero's Shade from Twilight Princess is really the Link from Majora's Mask and OOT?
User avatar
#374 - inuares (07/25/2013) [-]
I heard that. Also when I was a kid, I noticed the hero's shade calling the link in twilight princess "son" so that kind of blew my mind.

Personally, I think the "son" thing is more metaphorical than literal. But here is the story of the hero's shade.

Link saved the day again and went back to the forest to search for navi. They say those who enter that forest without a fairy will always get lost and then turn into stalfos. Since link failed to have his fairy with him, that is exactly what happened.

But why didn't link turn evil like other stalfos? Well it is because of keaton, the giant stalfos you beat for his mask. The last thing he told link before he left was "Tell my people that the war is over." When link became a stalfos, these words were still in his brain.

Being drawn by these words, he returned to Ikana Valley to deliver the message to King Ikana. The king again teaches link the elegy of emptiness. But when link plays it this time around, it actually drains his body of the evil stalfos, leaving behind the figure of the Hero's Shade.

Now that he regained his senses, he remembered the words zelda told him "Ganondorf will always return." He then tries to make it to hyrule. During this period, Midna was getting kicked out of the twilight realm. She then finds the hero's shade and pulls him into the twilight realm with her to talk. Once inside, he turned into a gold wolf because he is the true hero of time, as opposed to the link from twilight princess, who turns into a grey and black wolf.

Once done talking, Minda decided to find the next hero and assist him. The hero's shade on the other hand decided it would be best to teach him how to fight.

Reasons why he is thought to be the link from majora's mask are as followed.
1. His shield and sword resemble the mirror shield and guilded sword from majora's mask.
2. He said that he was told once that ganondorf would always return.
3. He said once "A blade has no power, if the hand that bears it has no courage." As we know, link's triforce of courage is on his hand.

Makes sense but I still have my doubts. mostly about the midna thing.
