Or you could just bow hunt.

against a zombie though bows are not worth the effort to even carry
silent and light but you normally have to retrieve the arrow whereas a .22 fitted with a suppressor (building one) can be extremely quiet
User avatar #297 - deliciousdee (04/07/2012) [-]
Ehh, suppressors cover some of the sound I suppose, but it definitely still makes a pop.
The bow could be used for animal hunting purposes only. A newer compound bow is lightweight, easy to use, and perfect for acquiring edible animal meat.

But yes, a rifle quite easily beats a bow when fighting zombies.
User avatar #342 - Kalder (04/07/2012) [-]
a bow would be very handy but in a survivals situation where you are already carrying gear, a bow and arrows would be cumbersome not because of weight, but because of its size

it could all depend on your situation though, maybe a friend you were with (because being alone is bad) would carry a bow and an handgun

if the apocalypse is anything like walking dead then you probably should not be using the gun for food, it will attract more. the bouncing in the skull is good in the same situation though
User avatar #109 - Kalder (04/07/2012) [-]
plan is to convoy to Montana wilderness, low population density provides for more freedom with weapons, use it sparingly of course but it will not be as dangerous

as much as i love my .22 i dont think it would do any sustainable damage against a zombie unless maybe you use a an entire clip
User avatar #68 - Kalder (04/07/2012) [-]
.22 has enough energy to penetrate the skull but not exit, its known to bounce around anc cause scrambled brain syndrome

The US army thought it was notorious for slide issues, because the slide is light as fuck. To counteract it they made the already huge hammer EVEN bigger, and it feels chunky as fuck. I'm all for getting a pistol that fits your grip, but a CZ-82 is a much nicer, more reliable package in 9mm, and if you have HUGE hands you can just get aftermarket grips.
User avatar #200 - Kalder (04/05/2012) [-]
a quick wiki search says yes, early models had issues, but only with 3 reported failures from guns with very high round counts and the extended use of high pressure rounds but these issues have since resolved when they were reported 20 years ago with no additional failures from the slide

this does not concern me in the slightest because any issues have been resolved and the ones i have fired have been new models, so that is the model i would be getting
