I've been mechanic-ing all day, truck needed a new pitman and idler arm, oil change, tranny fluid change

Just a pitman and idler? Usually, by the time those go out, you're looking at a full complement of steering joints.

#55 - jokexplain (02/24/2015) [-]
All the rest of the steering components were fine. Mid eighties toyota; everything is way over-engineered. 230k miles and still strong.

Never, ever, get rid of that truck.

#57 - jokexplain (02/24/2015) [-]
I never will. It may be four different colors and have a weird idle when it's cold (I know what it is, it's a coolant temperature sensor that is failed and kicks the truck in and out of warmup mode, and I have the replacement sensor but it's on the back of the engine and hard to get to) but I've never had it let me down when I needed it. Never gotten stuck.

I've never been in a pickup and thought "You know what would make this so much better? If the ride quality was suddenly shit, I didn't have any ground clearance, my range of visibility was cut in half, and my cargo capacity was reduced to almost nothing."
#80 - Swizzor (02/25/2015) [-]
I still haul the same amount, truck handles a lot better due to different spring rate, rear is still same beside axle being on top of leaf springs, still have same visibility, only thing is ground clearance..

You'll notice the brake lines cut as soon as you start the car, pedal will just go all the way to the floor, so its kinda hard to miss that lol

you overestimate the competancy of the general public
but that still doesnt change the fact that someone cut the lines, whether you make it to the road or not, someone can still be charged

You mean slash one of the tires. Keying the painjob is wayy more expensive and if you get caught, guess who's going to paying $500-$3000 to get that section done? That's right you're the winner.
#24 - Swizzor (02/24/2015) [-]
Brake line is A LOT cheaper than paint..
#48 - mechanicexplain (02/24/2015) [-]
Replacing a brake line and bleeding the system is a high labor cost repair, paint patching for a key mark is something you can do yourself with a touch-up pen.
#83 - Swizzor (02/25/2015) [-]
replacing a brake line and bleeding the system is also something you can do yourself... Try to cover up a key mark thats deep with some touch up pens and sell the car..
