Who said anything about the games?

Well... In all honesty I don't think the anime should follow the game in everything, granted, the anime as it is now sucks. The game follows a set of rules set by code. The game mechanic made by this code has to make an environment where the gameplay is balanced, engaging and most importantly fun.

In real life, if we assume Pokemon existed, games would never be an accurate representation of how the world works. It coud simulate parts of it, and it has to do so while keeping the type combinations in check with each other, for the sake of balance, fairness and ultimately, fun.

I get the idea that the games came before the anime, but it shouldn't define the Pokemon world entirely, especially not by mechanics. The games are and will always be limited in comparison to "real" life. The anime is (or should have been) a representation of irl Pokemon world.

If you coduct immense electricity through rock, it will go through as long as the voltage and ampere is high enough. Also I'd imagine Onix having an exo-skelleton of rock, where as its insides would be it's much more vulnerable self (which would nicely explain why a giant rock snake isn't one of the most powerfull Pokemon, despite its slow speed). The electricity wouldn't be effective, but it could damage Onix if it had high enough voltage or if Onix was wet (another thing which the games don't account for).

The anime really isn't too good in my opinion (I like the older one, perhaps because of nostalgia) but making the anime follow all of the arbitrary game mechanics and rules of the games/simulators isn't a good way to represent the Pokemon world imo.
The games should be formed around the world, not the other way around.

I understand what you're saying and I completely agree, but what I'm saying is that the anime, games and manga are all different. They use the same themes and etc, but they are nothing more than adaptations.

But...
Yeah you could argue that Stadium doesn't follow canon properly either, with all the random colouring and all.

There's also the time Pikachu took down a whole horde of Ryhorn by using an electric attack but making it strike their horns. Fuck the type effectiveness.

What if Pikachu was just an insanely higher level than they were? It may not be the case, but it's the best explanation I can think of.
#30 - rabidaardvark (12/04/2013) [-]
doesnt matter about level in this case; if a lvl 100 pikachu thunderbolts a lvl 1 rhydon it'll still do no damage because ground types are immune to electric
User avatar
#31 - OsamaBinLadenz (12/04/2013) [-]
Are you sure it's immune? I haven't played Pokemon in a while, but I thought it was only a "not very effective" attack.
#34 - rabidaardvark (12/04/2013) [-]
Ground types are completely immune to electric attacks, unless the pokemon using the attack has the Mold Breaker ability. Similarly Flying types are completely immune to ground attacks, Ghosts are immune to normal and fighting, Dark are immune to psychic, Steel are immune to poison and most recently Fairy are immune to Dragon.

Even with Mold Breaker electric moves can't touch a ground type. Mold Breaker affects abilities like levitate or flash fire making it so they can be hurt by the type they would be immune to

Doesn't foresight remove type immunities?

No Foresight (and Odour Sleuth) allows ghost types to be hit by normal or fighting type moves and eliminate evasion boosts (but not accuracy loss).

Electric attacks don't affect ground types at all.

Hmm. Alright. The anime is definitely wrong, in this case.

Ah, my bad. I just assumed it was Poseidon lol. Triton is the son of Poseidon, because I remember seeing a post explaining how Ariel and Hercules are actually related.
