Whoops my bad. I just didn't think it was feasible for someone to complain about something like that. Y'know someone who doesn't have a disability or old age hindering them from such a simple task. [Objective complete: Raise two legs 0.3m and move each .1m forward]

She was complaining about an opening that wasn't even an entrance lol. That isn't a gate she is walking through, looks like a possible vehicle entrance (like the first comment guesses) that is closed off and she is just slipping in through it and then complains because the "entrance" isn't big enough.

yeah I know I was just being cheeky.
And regarding the prison reform, i only have a passing knowledge but I think removing private prisons so keeping people imprisoned wasn't a business and helping people instead of punishing them for minor drug offenses would be a start.

The problem is that with the extreme capitalism that we have here, everyone just wants to make money. I heard the Nestle CEO wanted to privatize water. Friggin greed is real. The worst part is that if you have the money, you have all the influence so if your prerogative is to keep your money while making more, then you have the resources you need to make it happen.

Ya know, I was a big story guy when I bought dishonored and I found myself get burned once the first area with "free roam" came about. But then I reinstalled it and played it from the start again. This time for the gameplay mechanics more than story and I found myself really enjoy it. Sadly the game has the issue where all the cool deaths are basically excluded for the bad ending.

eh, it was short enough, so i played it through. the blink ability is kinda neat though, probably one of the best things about the game

And my point is that when there are thousands of people in jail who are innocent, doesn't mean shit if you are commiting crimes or not, you still CAN end up in jail.
Just by being in a wrong place in a wrong time, and police needs to make an arrest.

There are a lot of things that are possible. Being a transgender wrongly convicted of a crime and sent to a long term prison where you are then raped is probably right along the lines of falling through a sewer grate you walked over.

Now you are reaching.
I deliberately low balled entire thing.
So you want just that, fine.
Out of 750k I added, over 450k are long term local prisons, run by private companies.
That means I should only take 300k out of it.
and lets go with 8% instead of 2%
And yes, this ARE long term incarceration numbers, short term are under those 300k. Number is low becuase, people don't stay long.
So now we are at 8% out of the 1,966,000 people we get 157.000 innocent people in jail.
And, by the way, Detroit has a rather large trangender population, so I'll be generous and say 1/3 would be areas where there are no transgender people.
We are at nearly 100.000 people innocent in jail just in the areas where there is posibility of transgender person ending in jail.
So next time, when I deliberately lowball things, don't reach.

Less than 750k.
So lets take that out.
You still get over 30.000 innocent people in jail.
User avatar #112 - IamSofaKingdom (05/28/2015) [-]
also how many spent a brief period in jail (like a week to a month) as opposed to being indoctrinated into the prison society

If you aren't seeing it, my point is that the variables are countless and you can't blanket statement the numbers. Also my comment was in reference to transgenders (like a man who has had operations to look like a woman) not committing crimes to put themselves in that dangerous position.

How about making secure prisons where rape wasn't a daily occurrence.
User avatar #344 - IamSofaKingdom (05/28/2015) [-]
That would be a colossal reform of American prisons (which pretty much everyone can agree are pretty shitty right now) and it would be extremely expensive, extensive and time consuming. You are talking 10+ years if you are optimistic.

Much of our problems comparatively to other countries is because of our sheer size (in land/distance and population). It is hard to compare a successful method in another country when its population is less than a major city of the US.

It would be fantastic if we had a system that was actually made to reform rather than punish but that is what we have right now and what we will have for a good amount of time to come.
User avatar #349 - orangelightning (05/28/2015) [-]

Based on numbers of overturned sentences due to new evidence between 2% and 8% of people in jails are innocent.
2,266,800 people are in jail right now.
Even if we low ball it, that means 45,336 people in jail are innocent.
User avatar #101 - IamSofaKingdom (05/28/2015) [-]
and what portion of your numbers is only in reference to county jails and other small holdings rather than a federal prison with hundreds of inmates and the regular threat of rape?
