Yea except they really over-dramatized what effect there would be. In the case of those big banks they really did not know and the Fed/FDIC pulled the argument out of their ass. They bailed Bear Stearns out, claiming that if they hadn't the entire economy would collapse like a domino effect. Months later they DIDN'T bail Lehman Brother out, even though Lehman Brothers was a considerably larger bank that was facing a similar problem to Bear. Government agencies did a study afterwards and not a single other bank failed because of the Lehman bankruptcy- something that completely disagreed with their earlier claims.

I do think that the holders of savings accounts should be backed, otherwise no one would save their money in banks - but not other than that. In addition, large banks usually only are bailed out, which causes a "favoritism" for large banks as opposed to small ones.

I'm of the opinion that government makes the problems of capitalism much worse. For example, bail outs. Because of government bail outs, banks like Bear Sterns and Lehman Brothers did really stupid and greedy things because they thought the government would bail them out for sure. When this system is in place, the corrupt bankers don't even have incentive to be responsible.

That's not a general statement. I would say some people are like that but not all, not even close to all. I would say people would do anything to love and to keep their family safe but after that most people would not harm others. The problems that exist in capitalism are simply problems with human nature, since it is the freest and most natural structure.

Capitalism can actually turns most greed into good things though. People want to better themselves so that they can earn money to buy things for themselves and their family. By trying to earn this money people also help others because the other people will only pay money if it is something they desire. It is kind of beautiful in this way.

Which system doesn't? All people are open to greed and corruption. At least under Capitalism the corrupt individuals don't have as much power or can do as much damage as they could under Socialism.
User avatar
#1279 - creighton (06/17/2012) [-]
I think they have just as much power. It's just instead of it being the government with the power over the people (socialism/ communism), it's the very very rich with power over the government... who then has power over the people (capitalism).
User avatar
#1282 - Orangepeel (06/17/2012) [-]
But under capitalism the rich rely on the people to purchase from them. They can't displease the public too much or else they'll lose profits.
Even under democracy people barely have a say in how things are run, so if a government screws over its people they just have to wait.
User avatar
#1196 - HAPPYGIRAFFE (06/17/2012) [-]
Very true! But see that's why I do not follow any political system, because either someone gets fucked over, or people exploit it. But if I did have to choice, it would be Capitalism.
