I know it's a hard subject to grasp, but maybe the universe has always been there. Maybe there was no beginning. It is impossible to create or destroy matter, so has it always been there? Gravity may have compacted the entire universe into a single point, like a massive black hole, and once it couldn't contain it anymore, exploded. The big bang may not have been the beginning of our universe. It could have been the start of another cycle. I like to try and wrap my head around a universe that always has been and always will be.

Here's an interesting question. What if, instead of the universe existing, it never existed? Not even empty space. And nothing ever was or will be. And there was no one to lament the nothingness. There was nothing forever. Not one spec of anything anywhere ever. No alternate universes. Nothing.
