It all comes down to personal preference. The same as whether or not a guy shaves. It's not a huge deal either way.

Ahh, so you're Jeffersonian Republican. Makes more sense now. Still curious though, given that the modern Republican party is so radically different from the Jeffersonian Republican party, is it common for people to misunderstand you when you tell them that you're Republican?

Political opinion identification is a rather stupid thing anyhow. I identify as a moderate-liberal but I still support gun rights. People can have good and bad ideas, doesn't really matter whether their identification is right or wrong.

I agree with you to an extent. I think the type of political identification that we use is way too over-simplistic. However, I feel like using the political identification labels is necessary when discussing politics with most people as they don't necessarily posses enough political knowledge to understand another person's beliefs without using the labels.
