Sorry, but that's not true. It's not a trick of wording. The chances of switching are statistically higher than the chances of staying. This is because there are two events. First - choosing 1 door out of the 3. Second - choosing to switch or to stay. These events are linked - you can't look at them separately because the first event directly alters the second event.

Basically, in the 1st event, if you choose a correct door (1/3 chance), it creates the effect that switching will be the wrong choice. If you choose an incorrect door (2/3 chance), it means switching will be the right choice. It's not a 50/50. It's directly influenced by the first choice where you are choosing out of 3 doors. Choosing a wrong door on the first event means switching makes you win. Choosing a wrong door is statistically more likely (2/3). Therefore, switching has the 2/3 chance of being the right choice.

Uh...thx for sharing.

But really tho, I suggest you get some of that stuff they sell at pet stores or wally mart ; It's like a power and is great for getting rid of foul odors. Also get new sheets and lay on top of those.

I know right, so self entitled, how dare they believe they are entitled to a home. Next thing you know they'll start asking for basic human rights the little shits.

#145 - anon (03/29/2016) [-]
I wish it was as simple as that, if you believe that a Palestinian can live in Israel and be provided with decent rights then you are really ignorant. Maybe read about it, It might also expand your vocabulary beyond angry, crass remarks.

Why do you say in reality it hasn't changed at all? If mathematically the odds are better, then it's better in reality too because Maths IS reality...

Because they're not. You have the same exact chance of getting it right if you switch than if you don't. It's a trick of wording

As great as it is that people get exposure to a probability scenario and learn and discuss about it, it's often distressing to see so many people stick to their initial (incorrect) assumptions and cynically dismiss the proved result again and again.

But of course, the effect is positive no matter what. Of those who were "wrong" at the beginning, many changed their mind and learned something new. And the ones that didn't ... well, what can you do? The result is always good, so thanks OP.
