The head on his armour is purely ornamental. Smough is a human of great power who was considered in joining the ranks of Gwyns four knight, but was ultimately rejected due to his brutal nature and cannibalism. Since he was human he should be aproximately the same size as the chosen undead, or a little larger, but during the fight with him he seems like a giant. The logical conclusion would be that the helm is ornamental

Those eyes on his neck flap hangs to low, and the one on the helmets face are too high up, he would have a deformed head either way.

The little gap between his helmets chin and neck seem to be better fitting for the eyes.

Nah, the eyes on his armour's neck are just decorative.

Nope. I just found out about this today actually while playing DS3.
I bought Smough's set and noticed that the head piece is above the player's head, and the player's head is on the level of the eyes on the chest/neck.

Yes the headpiece is above the player's head, but the eyes on the neck are still too far down. The eyeholes are likely the gap between the 'head' and 'neck'. I've worn just the Smough helm in DS3 too.

Was there a ds3 mention before this one? I don't recall deavas mentioning ds3 before. Could be wrong, but if this is the first time it's been mentioned than there's nothing showing he's played it.

Well, no. You need to ring the bell in Blighttown to go through the gate at Sen's fortress, so you can access Anor Londo, so you can even obtain the Lordvessel.
So before the warping bowl.

Elaboration on ragingbrony's post:

In Darkroot Garden, there's an area called Darkroot Basin that has a bonfire in a little cave just passed the halberd-wielding black knight. Further into that cave is an elevator that takes you to the Valley of the Drakes. From here, there's a path that hugs the valley-wall that leads you into New Londo on the right or Blighttown on the left.

The thing is, the path into Blighttown from Valley is also the basically Blighttown's back door, bypassing most of the enemies and putting you in a place near a good set of armor as well as close to the pathway into the swamp below. So most of Blighttown, and the entirety of The Depths, are out of your hair.
