Most parrots bond to a single person, since in the wild they would find a mate for life. So the risk of owning a bird is sometimes they choose to bond to someone that isn't you for reasons that be (gender, voice, disposition, who knows). The reason I bought eclectus (Pictured above), is because in the wild they mate with multiple partners, so they are a little more flexible with family units. I can bring my eclectus in public and they are pretty much cool with everyone after a brief introduction.

my total parrots i have had are 36 not including the sun conure and 2 teils i currently have, i also used to be a breeder and know about 10 breeders, also come from a linage of bird breeders and was raised around parrots from infancy, hell i spend more time with birds than my own household.

if in your 20s get an eclectus, they live to about 60, have an oil gland instead of a dust gland so less allergies, they smell like spices and tend to make cooing and chiming sounds, they can also speak but the different genders act very differently in temperament.
however they can't take the cold and getting cold can make them sick really easily so unless summer they are better off staying home.
i keep mine in my coat during the winter while i go places and on my shoulder everywhere else, she also likes to sleep next to me or under the covers which is safe for me because i'm small and never move, problem is finding an ekke breeder as the birds aren't common.
look up different parrots on youtube to see how they behave with others.

I've been thinking about an Eclectus, however, to cold bit is a little deterring since for a personal preference, I keep my home fairly cold, and NJ doesn't have warm winters. I was thinking maybe another Sun Conure or Cockatoo. A bird store nearby used to have for sale a Black Palm Cockatoo. Looked pretty interesting

those need more heat than an ekke and are actually endangered now, i think they also need special papers due to that species.
try a quaker parakeet being they are very hardy and strong, they also come in green and blue, blue crowned conures also also in there and far bigger as well and maybe the derbyan parakeet if you can find one.
as a general rule though if you can see your breath it's too cold for most birds minus quakers but if the bird appears to be cold they need more heat.
