Try getting the mod "Mechjeb" even if you only use it for the mechjeb builder assistant tab it adds. Shows TWR, DeltaV and all the important information.

You and me both. I'm good with anything precise but orbital transfers were bad cause I never bothered to learn the angles or anything else.

Necessary KSP mods:
*Kerbal Engineer (or MechJeb )or delta-V calculations during construction. Use the attached map for the minimum delta-V needed, and plan for more. Use the HUD during launches to see apoapsis, periapsis, and TWR while in the staging screen. Try to keep TWR below 2.0 while in Kerbin's lower atmosphere during launches. Use Surface mode while landing.
*Kerbal Alarm Clock and set a timer for transfer windows. You're playing a game, let something do the calculations for you.
*Atmospheric trajectories so you can land where you want to and so you can do aerobraking without tedious trial-and-error.
*Waypoint Manager so you can actually do those "do X in Sector X-XXX" missions without tedious trial-and-error.
*Distant Object Viewer is a minimal change which really spruces up the game. It's nice to see the see the planets move while under time warp and when you are transferring to another body.

I have Kerbal Engineer and some others. I just am too lazy to do the calculations or memorize transfer windows.
#86 - bval (08/02/2015) [-]
So use Kerbal Alarm Clock and let it do the calculations for you. Just set an alarm for a transfer from Kerbin to wherever, and then warp until the alarm stops the warp. Launch. If you're going to an inferior planet, send yourself retrograde to Kerbin's orbit; if you're going to a superior planet, send yourself prograde to Kerbin's orbit. Set the desired planet as a target, and set a maneuver node sometime during the cruise. Make small adjustments until you get the closest approach close enough to achieve an encounter.

That's my general plan. Except I just go whenever, anytime, just following the general rules of ksp. Winging it usually works ok. I should probably use something like Kerbal Alarm Clock but I just don't play ksp enough anymore to justify worrying about it.
