Gee, thanks for giving that kind of context afterwards. It's impressive that he lived, yes, but how does receiving an injury, one that has a far, far greater chance of dieing than living, make him any manlier?

I didn't say it did. IT's just sometimes, even if you're wearing the proper gear, shit can happen to mess you up. In hockey, 2 players have gotten their throats slit by a skate. Both lived.

Oh, sorry, you're not the same person as who posted the video. I suppose baddassery is just context sensitive, in the case of the rugby player, I think he's a fucking idiot and got what was coming for not wearing protective gear. For the hockey player, an unfortunate accident that had no way of foresight and protective measures would be too counterproductive.

do what sumo wrestlers do and push your nads up inside yourself to avoid injury

It is now optional to wear cups because cups were causing terrible injuries. The cup would get hit and it'd force it's way painfully up into the pelvis, between the hip bones, and crush the balls in the process.

because something like this rarely happens.

The player crack skull way more often than this yet still only a few of them wear caps.

What if he was wearing a cup and he got hit hard enough to tear his scrotum.

Then that's different, but if someone would have committed such an amazing feat as breaking a cup with a single kick I think it would've been mentioned, so it's a good assumption he wasn't wearing one. I'm not going to be impressed when someone gets hurt while playing a sport with absolutely no protection. At least none that I'm aware of.
