When I first came to this site, I didn't bother going to the top comments sections. I barely even noticed the comments at all. I just came for the pictures. As I got more involved, posting my own comments, posting content, I started paying attention to the comments. I saw the thumb orgies and I quickly thumbed it all down and then continued on my way. In no way did it make me want to leave
User avatar #87 - vatra (09/19/2013) [-]
Of course, but that is based off of most amount of thumbs on a single comment, not total thumbs in a comment thread, I've seen thumb orgies make the top comments once, and even then it wasn't the top ten.

But thumb orgies, like he specifically mentions are usually purely in the comments of top contents. Some are contents themselves, but those usually don't get enough traffic to be seen by the majority. So what the hell does that effect?

I am with you on that. Many people can't see cause and effect, only what is right in front of their noses. Just like learning algebra in school. No one expects you to actually use it in real life, but YOU WILL USE the problem solving and critical thinking skills that algebra gave you every day of your life. Cause and effect.
User avatar #84 - vatra (09/19/2013) [-]
Most of the things he mentions in association with controlling thumbs don't actually effect anything, thumb orgies for example, see above it you want details on that.

actually.........

Two simple hydrogen atoms cannot form helium. The helium nucleus that would form would be so outrageously unstable that it would just decay right away. The net result is deuterium, an isotope of hydrogen.
Yes I know if you fuse the larger isotopes like deuterium and tritium then you would get helium and those technically are still hydrogens but the content clearly shows simple single-proton hydrogens.
#56 - fresighto (09/07/2013) [-]
The Net state is irrelevant. If They can fuse for even a attosecond it can be considered a product of the reaction. If you alter the time parameter of any reaction you can debase any findings. By that logic, Pb can end up as a lot of hydrogen in a conserved system simply because of Alpha and gamma bombardment.
User avatar #59 - pebar (09/07/2013) [-]
reaction intermediate would've been a better way to say it than transition state
#61 - fresighto (09/07/2013) [-]
I feel like you're right here, as much as I hate to say It. I could argue semantics and parameters here, but there's not too much of a point. Also, MAN did we go too deep on a picture of dancing atoms lol.
User avatar #58 - pebar (09/07/2013) [-]
But helium is not the product, it's just like transition states in nearly every chemical reaction that isn't as simple as A + B --> C...... it's not stable enough to be a product; its half life is actually much less than an attosecond. It wasn't even confirmed to exist until recently.
