I have never used illustrator before, is it good for designing logos by chance? Like what is it's purpose?

It is for logos especially because it is a vector, which means it is easier to shrink or enlarge without losing quality.

I just started using it today and it seems great for logos. A little awkward to get into after being used of photoshop it seems

what version are you using? (the white space must be the artboard)

CS6, I think it is however when I am working on the document a black border is where it should be cut off and that white space is not there.

it'd be easier if you could send a screenshot ... about the picture, i think it'd be better/easier shading it with colors instead of gradients because it seems..dead (i cant find a word right now..sorry) also i dont know where the light is coming from, the things behind the nutcracker dont help with the composition, and be careful using textures, when you apply then a lot and so hard they saturate the picture ( try lowering some of them).
#37999 - AkatsukiNekoJr (09/30/2013) [-]
Here is the screenshot.

I plan on working with the background more, that's my rough-draft since I had no clue what to do for it. As for the lighting, I see how how it is messed up, I am not use to illustrator yet so I think I was more concerned on giving it depth then I was with where the lighting was coming from. So you think using flat colors as opposed to gradients would look better?
User avatar
#38000 - azelot (09/30/2013) [-]
da fuq man yo tried giving it depth without thinking on where the light would come from? hahaha >> depth is created from light << . about the artboard, that white thing behind the drawing, you made it right? because the artboart is the black border inside , you either resize the whole picture or change the size of the artboard, and when saving/exporting jpg check the Use Artboard box.

simple (linear and round) Gradients are innefective when shading complex shapes, a gradient mesh will work 1000 times better but its really hard to handle. so yes if you're not a pro with light/shades/shapes/gradient mesh work with colors, it' will make it look more cartoonish and i think would fit the fairytale environment of the drawing (if thats what youre trying to create.. if its something dark, use the gradients). the user DEATHFOSWIFTWINGS has a sweet style with flat colors, give it a look to his work

Thanks for the help, I just pretend to know what I am doing. I did kind of want a flat look, I dunno. As for the depth and light source, I was just thinking oh that looks cool while working with one specific section. I don't usually but Illustrator is one tricky bitch.

yes he is, he posted some pictures a while ago, they must be within the first 5 pages. and yes illustrator is tricky but its easier than photoshop (imo) it gives you more freedom.

Firstly, it is hard to move to another country, and expensive. Secondly, I would have to convince my Wife and Kids to come with me, and they have lives of their own.

Then if you are going to protest against it then at least make it sound like you don't hate everyone with a vagina and want them chained to a wall. Make sure people know you are talking about unfair standards that femi-nazi's are setting.
And no girl should take a man's beatings, just a man shouldn't put up with a crazy bitch's attacks.

I do, do things about it. Posting right here where people can read is something. See those fucking thumbs? Those are people who have read it and agreed with me. I am active in Mens Rights groups and work with them to get information out to people. I actively participate with my government, I vote, I write letters, I inform other about opportunities in their area.

You think that just because I happen to be on FunnyJunk right this second that this is all I do? What a terribly ad homnim.

The biggest problem with comparing the Womens movement with the Mens movement is that when the Womens movement happened none of the Men put them in jail for hate crimes. In my country you can literally be thrown in jail for being part of a Mens Rights Group.

Then move if you hate it that much.
And what good are you doing on the computer, on a website with a picture seen by only a few thousand people, with god knows how many from your country, with an even smaller number stopping to read your comment.
You make it sound like you hate all women, from the marginally small amount that give a bad name to a big group.
Who cares about thumbs? As far as you know, they're all from men who want to put women 'back in the place', or guys who feel like they need sex from a girl they're nice
You need to calm your shit. No girl wants anything from you either.
