"because we need resources" or "because we want glory"?
User avatar #53 to #51 - kouzan (08/04/2014) [-]
For those who think war brings glory, it is not what they fight for. The fight itself brings glory, honor between two people or two groups fighting. Rather I believe its not a race for resources, its to protect what we hold dear. I don't think someone in the trenches, or fighting in a hot, humid God forsaken place would do so because they want glory, resources, or honor. Its more likely they have a small locket, or idea that they keep with them to remind them why they fight.

Not everyone works for the government. Its easy to talk of war, losing a friend to a bullet, shells used and civilians killed that day as a cause of explosive debris when you're behind a desk.

I don't mind when people come to America legally, go through the process that millions of others had to go through and what not. They want to be here, pay taxes and work hard. What I hate is when people get here illegally and don't go through the process of paying taxes and contributing to the country. Or like what's going on now with all these children without parents coming across the border, I mean what the **** ? You're just going to shovel off your problem to us? And for the people that say that we have a duty to take care of people: we can't even take care of our own people let alone anyone else's. Lots of homeless people, drug problems, violent crime etc. As for the whole "well we came here and the Indians didn't kick us out" type of argument, yeah, look where that got 'em.
TL;DR come to America legally or gtfo
User avatar #7 to #3 - nimba (08/03/2014) [-]
Wait do you live in America or India? I'm confused.
#19 to #3 - zeoteric (08/03/2014) [-]
I do get your point and agree, to an extent. I see America as the land of opportunity, I myself am from Europe and soon I shall move to America, as I want to pursue a proffesional sports career, naturally, I have to leave while I'm young (18 years of age).
Now here's the problem, it's ******* hard to get a visa, let alone move to America permanently without being qualified for a job that's in high demand in the states. I cannot also enroll in a school as simply me and my family do not have enough funds(yuropoors), nor does my family support my decision to pursue my dream.
If you offered me a permit to stay legally, but in return I'd have to pay taxes like every american, I'd take up your offer in heartbeat. Of course I will arrive in USA legally (Visa Waiver Program) but I'm afraid I will overextend my stay while attending a pro-wrestling school, after which I'll hope to strike a contract with WWE.
tl;dr I agree, but my current situation will force me to live there illegaly, atleast for a while.
User avatar #27 to #19 - tealcanaan (08/03/2014) [-]
The reason it's so hard is because we have so many illegals to accommodate compadre.
User avatar #187 to #19 - coopdawg (08/05/2014) [-]
In your case you come here to better your skills while working toward being here legally, much different then people who sneak across our borders without even trying to do things legally.
User avatar #77 to #3 - srskate (08/04/2014) [-]
>don't go through the process of paying taxes and contributing to the country
Illegal immigrants pay taxes. They just may not pay an income tax. Have you had to prove your citizenship every time you pay a toll on the road, or when you pay sales tax? How about a tax on your house?
Furthermore, its nearly impossible to be an illegal immigrant and not contribute to the country. Illegal immigrants cant just live off welfare, even though they end up paying taxes for it. In fact, they cant take advantage of any american social programs. Every cent they make they work for, barring panhandling.

User avatar #186 to #77 - coopdawg (08/05/2014) [-]
You don't pay a property tax when you live in an apartment building. And I don't know where you're from but out west we don't have toll roads. Plus, sales tax is a state decision. But if an illegal immigrant gets injured while working and they end up in the hospital, it is taxpayer money that funds their treatment. I'm not saying that illegal immigrants are bad people but the repercussions are fairly negative.
User avatar #188 to #186 - srskate (08/06/2014) [-]
You realize, then, that a home-owning hard working illegal immigrant (who pays taxes such as sales tax unless they live in the 5 states without it) contributes more to this country than a homeless person. The repercussions are lesser by far than many citizens who happened to roll the dice and get lucky enough to be born here. I'd go as far to say that there aren't really repercussions.
User avatar #8 to #3 - katarinaismywaifu (08/03/2014) [-]
100% correct. Their lives suck in other countries but if they keep coming here illegally this country will suck too. Just look at the Europe.

User avatar #171 to #163 - fuzzyballs (08/04/2014) [-]

User avatar #49 to #30 - owemiegawd (08/04/2014) [-]
scopes dont have to be on rifles, they are used to ad zoom to iron sights. you can potentially put a scope on whatever you want. its usually only found on rifles because they typically shoot at long distance targets. however you can put it on a Gatling gun if you want. still shoot at far away targets with a Gatling gun

Even though Minorities suffered more, the Irish suffered a lot, being a fraction above slaves basically.
User avatar #153 to #62 - hammarhead (08/04/2014) [-]
dude, they were a minority. They were hated worse than blacks for a time.
User avatar #189 to #153 - supersonicman (08/09/2014) [-]
They were still white and up until they spoke or revealed themselves, you couldn't really tell them apart from the other Americans...Black people don't have that ability unless you were light skinned and dealing with someone with bad eyesight or from a distance...and Black people weren't even considered humans...they were considered a little above animals actually and people justified slavery by saying it was for the good of the savages or a necessary evil in a sense. I actually think the only way to hate a group of people more than enslaving them is to just outright kill them and that actually happened during and after slavery. I'm not saying the Irish didn't suffer, they suffered more than a lot of people back then and are sometimes the butt of jokes today, but they weren't slaves, they were workers, not slaves and it's hard to say anyone suffers more than someone not considered a human.
User avatar #196 to #189 - hammarhead (08/10/2014) [-]

Many Irish were "indentured", in short slaves that could buy their freedom but worth much less than black slaves and treated like expandable hardware since they were so cheap compared to black slaves.
User avatar #190 to #26 - supersonicman (08/09/2014) [-]
Worth less true (Not my opinion, I mean the opinion of the time before me) but black people were still whipped...the solution to cover up scars was tarring the back, though up until a slave was made to be sold, they were whipped as much as the master desired.
