Star Trek: TNG USS Enterprise D Engineering Warp Core Background Ambience
No wonder they had so many warp core breach close calls.
Can you blame him though? Listen to how relaxing Engineering is.

Imagine how sad it must be for the crew to leave the ship and its constant relaxing hum. I wonder if they would play the sound to themselves just to fall asleep when on shoreleave

He's right, troll bait or not. The 'The Hobbit' series may be well-made, but it's not GOOD. It's a 3-hour long CGI-fest with little to no character development, dumb subplots. How exactly did Kili and Tauriel fall in love? Why do we care about Laketown and its 500 inhabitants? Why the **** is Legolas in this? Why did he choose to pursue the orcs, exactly? Why should we be rooting for these dwarves if we only KNOW three of them? Wasn't this called 'The Hobbit'? So why is there so little of the ******* Hobbit in this movie? Why is there a 45 minute long scene of dwarves running away from Smaug and not a single moment of Andy Serkis' brilliant Gollum? Why did this movie have the most shameful 'come back next year to see the ending' finale ever?

Like seriously: at least the last movie had an end: Bilbo got the ring, Azog had been slowed down and Erebor was in sight. Here, it's just like they stop in the middle of the confrontation with Smaug. So what now? Are they going to start the next movie with his demise? It's like if Empire Strikes Back had ended with Luke and Vader starting their fight and Return of the Jedi had begun with Vader telling Luke he's his father. In order to have a fulfilling film, THE CLIMAX NEEDS TO MEAN SOMETHING, IT NEEDS TO MAKE YOU RETHINK WHAT YOU'VE BEEN WATCHING FOR THE LAST FEW HOURS. This is why great films are great (Godfather, Scarface, Goodfellas, Fight Club, Se7en, Usual Suspects, Pulp Fiction, Return of the King).

This isn't an effort to recreate the world of Middle-Earth on a screen like the first trilogy was. I wanna say it's for the money, but even movies designed as simple cashgrabs (X-Men 2) can be good. So why wasn't this?
#71 to #21 - anon (12/27/2013) [-]
why do people complain about CGI? Ya think it would look better with people in rubber costumes? and very tiny landscape replicas?
User avatar #118 to #71 - coolalliki (12/27/2013) [-]
Yes, I would prefer that. Because it looks better. In the original trilogy, the orcs were people in costumes, and they looked fantastic. CGI shouldn't be used to CREATE entire films, locations, characters, etc... (Star Wars prequels), but to enhance what's already there (LotR trilogy). Granted, Power Rangers looks like **** , but with a budget of 500 million dollars, making good-looking suits, masks and armor isn't such a challenge.
#67 to #21 - iamchicken (12/27/2013) [-]
I thought the Desolation of Smaug was amazing. I've read all of the Lord of the Rings novels and loved it Smaug is now in my list of favorite movie villains. and When Gandalf confronted Sauron I got the shivers.
I dunno i'm not really one to critisize or praise a movie I normally watch movies because i think they are just awesome.
User avatar #76 to #67 - hellsjester ONLINE (12/27/2013) [-]
did you read the book? no then let me educate you.
1) legolas was not in the hobbit period end of sentence good bye don't pass go.
2)the female character in the movie is made up Hollywood bs.
3) if you read the book where they left off is pretty much the end of the book 10 chapters max.
4)took way too long considering the book is only half the size of the smallest of the LOTR books.
5) the white ******* orc was a subplot not the whole ******* story.
User avatar #81 to #76 - iamchicken (12/27/2013) [-]
Still enjoyed the book and movie...
User avatar #112 to #76 - hanabro (12/27/2013) [-]
If they followed the book exactly, and only had one movie instead of three, it would be a really ****** movie. The Hobbit isn't meant to be a movie. They were in a tight spot, because if it was one movie, they would have had to cut large portions of the story; Beorn certainly would have been skipped, and the elves in Mirkwoood would likely have to go too. But, since they decided to make a trilogy, they had to do some serious padding. Ideally, they would have gone with two. But I'd rather they do three than one, and get the whole story with a little filler instead of a slimmed down, but more accurate, story.
User avatar #138 to #112 - hellsjester ONLINE (12/27/2013) [-]
no it would be a good movie and i wouldn't cost me 30$ to watch the whole thing

"What have we done?"

Movies have ended at the climax before. I remember it, but I dont' exactly remember which one

The real question is why didn't Legolas shoot Azog in the back while chasing him on the bridge of Laketown.
User avatar #82 to #70 - iamchicken (12/27/2013) [-]
i don't think that was Azog that was one of his lackeys
User avatar #46 to #21 - punnyjunky (12/27/2013) [-]
well, I mean, Legolas went after the orcs because he had the hots for Tauriel and she went off after them first. But yeah, they're OK movies, but a real letdown to anyone who knows much about LOTR lore.
User avatar #64 to #46 - myrtille (12/27/2013) [-]
i think he's talking about the second time. legolas didn't give a **** in the first place, but in laketown he kept going after them without her...why?
User avatar #65 to #64 - punnyjunky (12/27/2013) [-]
Well those orcs did slay a ******** of the elves, and as an elf himself he just really ******* hates orcs. Seems about right to me
