as funny as it is I've never understood why people progressively incline their weight instead of decline.
I dunno just makes more sense to me.

You start at a relatively comfortable weight, and bump up by 10-20 lbs. after each rep. while the weight gets larger the rep amount gets smaller. This increases muscle fatigue without cold lifting massive weight and risking muscle tear, which can keep you out of the gym for weeeeeeeks. A cold lift at big weight is ******* scary.
User avatar #16 to #12 - zayinzetaseven ONLINE (12/12/2013) [-]
i agree with you but imma be a bit of a nazi and say you go up 10-20 per set, not rep
User avatar #17 to #16 - crafty badger (12/12/2013) [-]
oh pahh! This is what I meant, sorry!
User avatar #18 to #17 - zayinzetaseven ONLINE (12/12/2013) [-]
i knew what you meant but we dont want these weakfags gettin the wrong idea and gettin hurt
User avatar #19 to #18 - crafty badger (12/12/2013) [-]
woah woah, don't be negative towards people in a gym setting man. WE ALL started with weight that is laughable now. Be friendly when you inform dude, I for one don't want to be labeled an alphafag just because i'm at a big weight. If anything put your emphasis on informing as best you can, as nicely as you can. Or just listen to music and grind out your sets.
User avatar #21 to #19 - zayinzetaseven ONLINE (12/12/2013) [-]
lol i meant that in an asshole kind of way but im not an asshole all the time....i like to tease people at the gym in a joking kind of way a lot because i personally feel that its motivating but if i see/hear about someone struggling i try to help because if a dude is willing to get up and hit the gym to try and get in shape instead of bein a slacker then he deserve to see some good results
User avatar #23 to #21 - crafty badger (12/12/2013) [-]
hah agreeable. I love finding other good gym rats online.

It prepares you for lifting progressively heavier weights, which is what you're supposed to do to gain muscle and find your max
User avatar #15 to #10 - rasconza (12/12/2013) [-]
ok thanks for letting me know, me and my buddy decline but we still go up in how heavy are weights are, maybe are process works but just isn't as efficient as incline.
thanks for letting me know, i'll try it differently tommorow.

Another thing you should try if you haven't already is pyramid sets. I love me some bench pyramid sets.
User avatar #42 to #38 - rasconza (12/12/2013) [-]
explain...
User avatar #43 to #42 - imcalledjp (12/12/2013) [-]
Increase weight until you reach a set where you peak, usually one to three reps, and then decline the weight back down. I do this for decline bench press, and I'll do a total of seven sets. The first three sets helps to get the blood pumped into the muscle, the peak set will really push you causing some nice muscle tearing to go on, and then the final three sets where you progress back down in weight serve as amazing burn out sets. You'll be suprised how 135 lbs on the last set can feel like 300 lbs after about 20 reps. I've only applied pyramid sets to bench, but in theory you could probably adapt it around deadlift and other compound movements.
User avatar #44 to #43 - rasconza (12/12/2013) [-]
thanks man, although I'm pretty new to lifting weights around so I cant really bench like 135, but thanks for sharing, not many people on Fj are nice
User avatar #45 to #44 - imcalledjp (12/13/2013) [-]
No problem! Just stick with it and you'll be amazed at the progress you can make, I know I was! Also make sure you're getting the right nutrition, because weightlifting will do just about nothing if you're not getting enough nutrients to help muscle growth, protein is a key component in this. Stick to your schedule and don't convince yourself you can't do something: do these things and you'll be making yourself some gaiiiiinnnnnsss. Cheers, mate.
