Try putting the city of Tokyo over the entirety of Australia and remember that Tokyo has about 10-15 million more people in it.

Actually, the population of Japan is 127 million

150 million people live in japan

and for comparison - about 200 million in the area of Europe that texas covered in the content

User avatar #26 to #24 - commandershit (11/15/2013) [-]
if you take the part of texa's borders thats in the open sea and put it on either france or germany , you got about 200 million

cause 120 million is france and germany combined - and theres a whole lot more covered than that

Look at Japan/Norway. 120ish million in Japan. About 315 people per square km. Norway is at 13 people in the same area. Also, in my limited Japan knowledge, Norway and Japan is geographically similar, with a lot of mountains and forest. So ye, I don't know where one of us ****** up, but it clearly happened.

If you really want to see something crazy, do the same but with Alaska. The place is huge (1.7 million square kilometers, or 660 thousand square miles), but under 7 and a half thousand people live there.

User avatar #62 to #60 - cinematicbrix (11/16/2013) [-]
That is, however, not the real size.

You would have to compare two pictures from a globe, not a flat picture like google maps.

Flat maps can never be made to represent a globe 100% accurately.

User avatar #41 to #40 - howunexpected (11/15/2013) [-]
Mercator maps aren't the standard anymore
The comparisons are accurate.
User avatar #66 to #41 - cinematicbrix (11/16/2013) [-]
No, the comparisons are visually correct when shown on a mercator map.

To be geographically correct, you would have to compare Central Europe with Texas through a globe, or by measuring their areas.

Europes area: 10,180,000 km²
Texas' area: 696,241 km²
User avatar #45 to #41 - randomserb (11/16/2013) [-]
Most definitely not. Canada (especially the islands above Hudson Bay) isn't that large in comparison to Canada.
#202 - anonymoose (11/16/2013) [-]
Using google maps and their known area, Texas is about the size of France.

Texas is: 696,241 km²
France is: 674,843 km²
