goats do not produce the copious amounts of methane cows do, and do not strip the land of grass. In fact, their poop is amazing fertilizer! They eat away weeds and brush, being browsers. Cows just yank everything out by the roots.

Children who have drank goats milk, also, have less allergies and tend to be healthier.
www.naturalnews.com/031586_raw_goats_milk_health.html

And that is why goats are amazing. Also they're cute and easier to manage than cows.

but goat milk is disgusting
User avatar #68 to #65 - Icedangel (04/10/2014) [-]
Actually it depends!

Some breeds do have 'goaty' tasting milk (Toggenburg and Oberhaslis, mainly. 'Swedish' breeds) but modern goats are bred for pleasant taste. And if you get a goat like the Nubian the high butter fat content makes the milk sweet.

However as goat milk ages is does get a bad taste to it. Which is why milk bought from in the stores tastes bad because it's very old. And often is gotten from Alpine goats which produce a lot of milk that's prone to taking on dietary flavors.
User avatar #71 to #68 - youhei (04/10/2014) [-]
i usually get it from my aunt, it tastes like the goat smells
User avatar #73 to #71 - Icedangel (04/10/2014) [-]
It can also depend on the handling. What breed does she have and does she keep the male with the females?

If you're also not VERY careful with udder prepping, filtering, and handling (or put it in plastic containers) it can get goaty really fast.
User avatar #79 to #73 - youhei (04/10/2014) [-]
i have no clue how she keeps them or what breed they are
User avatar #82 to #79 - Icedangel (04/10/2014) [-]
Ah. Well now you know. Some goats make nasty tasting milk, some do not.

Nigerian dwarf milk is extremely rich and sweet, though. I love it.
User avatar #58 to #51 - Icedangel (04/10/2014) [-]
Okay. So lets look at why goats are amazing.

goats are more effecient at producing milk than a cow. It takes less feed for a dairy goat to make a gallon of milk than a cow. For every 70 pounds of freed to the average goat she will give 1 more gallon than a cow. Smaller goats are actually more effecient then larger goats.

goats milk has higher Vitamin A than cows milk, Has Vitamin D (cows milk doesn't naturally have it), higher B2, and higher Vit C. It's very close nutritionally to Human milk. It also has smaller fat globules which make it easier to digest than cows milk. (A glass of cows milk takes an entire day to digest, this creates a strain on the pancreas and is starting to be linked to diabetes, though nothing solid yet) even people who are lactose intolerant can drink goats milk. (sometimes, not always).

Goat meat is better for you than any other meat. 85g of goat meat has 122 calories, 2.58 total fat, .79 saturated fat, 23 grams of protein, and 3.2 grams of iron. The only meat with lower calories is chicken (which has 120) but goat meat has the lowest total fat and saturated fat, the most iron, and is tied in protein to beef. Beef has 245 calories, 16 grams of fat, 6.8 grams of saturated fat, and only 2.9 grams of protein. Goat is often used interchangeably with beef as it can taste quite similar. (Imagine, enjoying a thick steak with half the calories, 84% less fat, 90% less saturated fat, more iron, and the same amount of protein! Doctor approved! )

Plus, goats are again, more efficient at making meat. The Boer breed of goat can have Kids weighing 80 pounds at 90 days old. At a year they sit at about 132 pounds. A doe can have two litters a year of up to eight kids total (most often twins) which is a maximum of 1056 lbs and a minimum of 528lbs. One cow calf can weigh about 1100 pounds at a year, but takes more feed to get to that size.

Additionally (will be continued )

sustained farming?
User avatar #66 to #64 - Icedangel (04/10/2014) [-]
Yes. Growing your own food in a way that is sustainable and not taxing on the environment. Such as Aquaponics. Or having a got and using it's manure to fertilize the garden instead of synthesized chemicals.
User avatar #67 to #66 - youhei (04/10/2014) [-]
so basically teh way farming used to be done
User avatar #70 to #67 - Icedangel (04/10/2014) [-]
Not really. Old time farming wasn't sustainable. In the sense that if we went back we wouldn't be able to produce enough things to eat to feed the world. It was terribly inefficient.
User avatar #76 to #70 - youhei (04/10/2014) [-]
sure, you wouldn't have been able to feed the world, but there was less world to feed.

the way it used to be done is by rotating the fields. two years you have a pasture, next year you have corn, next you have soybeans, then back to pasture for a couple years. you'll actually improve the soil that way, and not get **** in your water supply

now, they use **** tons of chemicals and only grow one thing on the farm. they force-feed cows corn which makes them gassy, and have them in tiny pens and up to their knees in their own **** . it all washes off with the rain and gets into the water supply, and goes down the line to you or your food.
User avatar #89 to #76 - Icedangel (04/10/2014) [-]
They actually still do field rotation, but mostly with soy/corn. We've improved a lot though. I'm just aiming to be able to provide everything for myself, basically, plus a little extra to sell or feed to the animals.

Plus Aquaponics is cool. You use your plants to filter fish water, and the fish eat some of the plants, and you basically have a little ecosystem.

That you can eat.

#102 to #97 - Icedangel (04/10/2014) [-]
Pretty much. I know you have said something to me and I am to reply, however I don't know anything about war, nor do I find it very interesting. So I can't relate to you on the war topic, which means I have to find a different alternative to connect. The only other thing is having an obsession, and relating to having one topic you feel the drive to know more about. In my mind there is nothing wrong with 'your thing' 'my thing' as long as they have the same basic principles that keep the topic jointed.

Most of my standard responses are limited because of the subject matter and how limited my information of you is. Though, if you had responded 'I also have understanding the market place' I could have responded 'I enjoy learning about market places and economics. I've actually invested some money in virtual stocks before.' and possibly find a way to work in Sweden's current economic status into the conversation. It's the opposite of Americas system from what I can tell, but is doing wonderfully. And if you are more well versed on such things that I am it would be a very good opportunity to learn something or to have my current beliefs reinforced.

I find conversations to be a lot like a card game. Only I am playing Go Fish while everyone else is playing Poker.

"and sometimes you get over polio" the keyword is SOMETIMES. Sou you trust a 10% chance that you survive over a 99.99% chance that you won't be autistic. You're a special kind of stupid.
Also, autism has a whole scale of levels. An autist can be anything between a box folder and a brain surgeon. For example there's a guy who came to our art school after he finished university and sometimes he joins our glass crafting class. He's just like everyone else, he just doesn't like when people touch him (i hate that too tbh). But otherwise there's nothing wrong with him.
#318 to #69 - rabidaardvark (04/10/2014) [-]
'sometimes you can get over it' glossing over the flip side where you can end up either permanently dissabled or even dead. Excuse me while I go dodge traffic on the motorway because even if you get hit by a car you can sometimes get over it.

Anti-vaccination is by a mile the most retarded standpoint anyone can have, trumping even anti-gay marriage and feminism (the female supremacy brand not the proper equality one). being anti- vaccination means you would prefer your child ran a gauntlet of some of the most horrific diseases in history, including but not limited to polio, diptheria, heppatitas and menningitas, RATHER than have a made up (i.e: fictional, not real, invented) microscopic (slim, unlikely, long odds) chance of autism
User avatar #319 to #318 - youhei (04/10/2014) [-]
i'm not saying that vaccines cause autism, i'm saying that if there was a 30% chance of becoming autistic vs a 5% chance of getting polio, i would take my chances with getting polio
#320 to #319 - rabidaardvark (04/10/2014) [-]
try flipping those values. The INVENTED number of getting autism from vaccines was in the neuigbourhood of 1 in 110, or 0.99%, while getting those diseases is around 40-50% if unvaccinated. and again and again for each disease not vaccinated. A good portion of those diseases have a good chance of killing a child, so I'll say again; would you rather risk death over and over again or take a made up 0.99% chance of autism?
#268 to #69 - anon (04/10/2014) [-]

I agree. Not only does it put your child in severe danger, but it makes everyone else's children in danger too. You turn your little **** into a walking petri dish.

Alternatively, we could have vaccinations required by law so that we can jail whoever doesn't, then take their kids when they're jailed and vaccinate them anyways.

First: your parents are retards for not vaccinating you, and you're a retard for not getting yourself vaccinated now.

Second: you have gotten sick because almost everybody else is vaccinated. But idiots aren't vaccinating their kids, and now diseases that either were eradicated or were extremely rare are becoming more and more common and are ruining the herd immunity that has kept us mostly safe for so long.

Holy **** , you are either literally retarded or 10 if you don't understand this.

You have not gotten sick because of herd immunity

Idiots like you and your parents are destroying herd immunity

Not only will people like you get sick, but you'll get vaccinated people sick as well since you are destroying the herd immunity.

If you aren't completely inbred then this should be pretty clear. You are a walking biohazard, you just have been fortunate enough to get sick yourself.
User avatar #181 to #172 - jefftheturtle (04/10/2014) [-]
Dude you need to calm the **** down. I have taken an infectious disease course and at least according to the information learned THERE people who are vaccinated CANNOT get sick from unvaccinated people. I am NOT saying vaccines don't work, but I was merely putting in my experience with not being vaccinated. I have never even heard of this herd immunity you have mentioned so I will look that up on my own time but You will never convince people to trust in your knowledge if you yell and look like a ******* 7th grader. I never intended this to be some kind of childish argument
#197 to #181 - nigeltheoutlaw (04/10/2014) [-]
Wow, you took one infectious disease course? Please tell me how you know more about vaccinations than infectious disease scientists. It's true that you can't get infected from vaccinated individuals, but that is exactly why herd immunity is so crucial; there are so few susceptible individuals that the disease can't spread among the few unvaccinated members of the community. The only reason that you haven't gotten sick is because of herd immunity, not because of some magical fluke of nature.

If you took an infectious disease course that even lightly covered vaccinations then they would have mentioned herd immunity.

That's because herd protection is keeping you safe. You are endangering people by not vaccinating yourself, because not everyone is able to get these vaccines due to that they're too weak. Who are these people? They are the old ones, babies, and just regular folks with bad health, and these people are protected by the herd who aren't complete fools and listen to what the doctors tell them.

Ignorace should not be a reason to lose custody. Stupidity on the other hand.
If you would do **** like you are currently saying you would get a society in which only the elite could breed. (inb4 we become the people of Susei no gargantia)

Also let me tell you a story:
>parent day at a university
>Parents of first years can come to see what the study is all about their childeren are doing
>Proffesor explains some basic stuff
>In the middle of the lesson the proffesor puts down an apple
>Tells the parents there's DNA in it
>asks: Who would still eat this?
>about 12 of the 36 parents raise their hand

so apperently 1/3 of the parents who raised offspring smart enough to go to university doesn't know what DNA is.

Well I heard it from a proffesor( not the one who gave the class), but I could imagine it was real. They are like "I don't give a **** about technology just make it so I can sell it"

User avatar #115 to #63 - syntheticdoll (04/10/2014) [-]
I heard not even experts are 100% sure when it develops but probably a lot of mothers believe vaccines cause it because usually autism can be first discovered around the age of 2-4 when the child gets a lot of vaccines.

I actually hsame school, autism, just like most of the 450 kids in my highschool, (In my country we put all the kids with autism, ADD, epilepsi etc in the same, with faculty that knows how to deal with those kids)
And all of them had it from birth, all but one. One kid claimed to got hit by a car that knocked him away several yards. When he came by a few days later hr had autism.
Nut sure if true story tough.

ok, i can see drugs doing that, maybe, but not blunt impact.

then again, they might be saying he has "autism" because it's nicer than saying "mild brain damage"
User avatar #224 to #63 - cormy (04/10/2014) [-]
It's pretty well known now that autism can be developed in a few ways, basically any kind of damage done to the brain in the right way can do it.
This whole vaccine phobia thing probably originated from the development of autism through antibiotics. When a full spectrum, general targeting anti-biotic is administered to rid one's body of a particularly bad bacteria, it doesn't just target that one bacteria, it kills a ******** of other ones at the same time because they don't have a specific counter for the one they wanted to get rid of yet.
In that case, your body's natural bacteria biodiversity gets messed up and the bacteria that were previously being suppressed by other, less damaging bacteria, proliferate because they're more resistance to the antibiotics. The bacteria in particular I'm referencing is called Clostridium Boltae, which releases neurotoxins into the body.
When the balance of gut flora is messed up and C Boltae spreads too much, the level of neurotoxins in the body can cause permanent damage to the brain.
The easiest way to prevent this is to have probiotics like yogourt after going through one of those large scale anti-biotic administrations.
