Because Half life 3 hasn't been released yet, some people are starting to think that Gabe Newell can't count to 3, even though might not be true. It will be released some day, but i think it will take some more time.

Does anyone know if you can also play non-steam games like LoL or WoW on it?
User avatar #22 to #13 - LtMcG ONLINE (09/24/2013) [-]
You can port all Windows and MAC OS games to play on the SteamOS
User avatar #35 to #22 - whiplasher (09/24/2013) [-]
Not really. It's gonna be a Linux distro, so you can't really port them (unless you have the source code). It's up to the developers to port them.
User avatar #38 to #35 - LtMcG ONLINE (09/24/2013) [-]
I think you mean in terms of installing a Windows or Mac game on the box. The way it is advertised (at least as to what I am reading), is that the Windows/Mac game is being feeding a stream to the Steam OS which just replicates the game like an extended monitor.

But it does make sense that a developer could not allow for it to be ported like that. I think now what they are trying to advertise is that games for Windows/Mac can be played IF they are on Steam.
User avatar #39 to #38 - whiplasher (09/24/2013) [-]
Oh, right, my bad. Still, I love the idea, since that means more games are going on Linux. Don't think I'll actually use SteamOS, though. Can't say I'm excited about the streaming thingy.
User avatar #19 to #13 - mdmazing (09/24/2013) [-]
Yes, alot of developers will already be receiving SteamOS to build their games on that too.
#18 to #13 - Rascal (09/24/2013) [-]
well, you can stream games form your computer to the steamOS machine, so maybe
User avatar #34 to #6 - whiplasher (09/24/2013) [-]

Too sharp, too many edges
2/10 would not classify as ultimate gaming experience.

He CAN'T call it the Gabecube.
Cubed = a number raised to the third exponent.

Everyone knows gabe is deathly afraid of the number 3.
Half life 3 confirmed
#33 - itsfridayy (09/24/2013) [-]
After the GabeCube 2, they would have to use decimals, because valve never makes a third for anything....
User avatar #66 - zinnerfy ONLINE (09/24/2013) [-]
they also couldve called it the Orange Box.

When is the Steambox actually comming out.
it has been so long when there was news about it..
Now i don't hear anything anymore about it..

Wut happened..
User avatar #67 to #62 - kameethechosenone (09/24/2013) [-]
i guess following the news in IT would help since SteamOS was announced yesterday,

and I know it by following a game related site on facebook
User avatar #70 to #62 - thegamerslife (09/24/2013) [-]
or you could just built a cheap, small gaming computer with similar (maybe better) specs and just run steam OS when that comes out. BAM steambox

store.steampowered.com/livingroom/

There is a countdown on that website which will hit 0 tomorrow, there was one before that hit 0 yesterday and revealed SteamOS (click on the white lighted circle)

I strongly expect either the next revelation tomorrow to be the Steambox, or the last one.

On a sidenote: I do not expect any of those to reveal Half Life 3
