just a note, this is LeVayan Satanism, in which "Satan" is the want of self indulgence, and "God" is the pressure from others/society/religions to restrain yourself from said indulgence.
User avatar #83 to #11 - burningsmurfs (08/22/2013) [-]
I thought satanism itself was behaving but also depriving God of his worship? Satan doesn't really want your worship he just thinks God deserves none? But that could all be **** I read somewhere or crap my idiot friend told me when he was into that stuff for a couple months in junior high.

"If he does not stop, destroy him."
I can get behind this.

Metalheads and the lot are some of the nicest people I personally have ever met. A little dark, but nice.
User avatar #84 to #1 - teseus (08/22/2013) [-]
I really don't get it why metalheads are immediately associated with satanism. I really don't see the connection.

Not saying LaVey's satanism is bad since it's actually kinda cool, I just don't get this instant correlation.

Many metal bands have satanic lyrics and logos even though they aren't really satanics.
User avatar #95 to #91 - teseus (08/22/2013) [-]
But at the same time, many don't. I noticed that lately there are more and more bands use darker lyrics or mention Satan, but metalheads were associated with satanism for a long time before this change started to happen.

As far as I know metal appeared in a time when people used to be extremely religious and every member of the American society was struggling to reach a certain goal. It was promoted the fact that everything a man needs in order to be happy is a pretty, loving, obedient wife, as many kids as possible, a nice little home and a safe job so everybody had his share in running the perfect capitalist system. So there was this image of the happy man that always went to work with a smile on his face, earned enough money and since morals were very important, always went to church.
That meant that everything that stood against this goal of perfect order was chaotic and evil. So people started to say that those who listen to that kind of music that apparently didn't respected any pattern and it wasn't really well organized must be evil and therefore satanic.

The thing is people grew out of that mentality about the perfectly ordered society to achieving great wealth by any means, losing part of those previously high held moral values. Still, the stupid stereotypes from an era where if you were not exactly as everybody else you were a bad person remained. This is what I don't get. How can people use the logic from a very constricting time even today when people are encouraging free thought.
User avatar #106 to #95 - citruslord (08/22/2013) [-]
Good points, from what I can gather, it's mostly illogical. Christianity seems to have a history of condemning anything they don't agree with or understand to be evil.
One possible reasoning is that alot of people seem to associate mythology, pagan religions, and similar things with being satanic, which are some common themes in metal. It also may be interesting to note that many musical genres were, at a time, marked as satanic, especially by the older generation of the time. It's possible that the reason the labels stuck with metal was the overall dark and aggressive theme much of metal has.

The first Black Sabbath album already had satanist references: NIB talked about Lucifer being in love with a human, they said that the woman in the cover of the album was not there when the picture of the house was taken and they wore plate crucifixes claming that they were cursed by a witch.
And this was in 1970. Satanism was in heavy metal since the beginning.

I did a paper on cults once... I wrote about the different kinds and how they're "misunderstood" and Satanism pretty much tied it all together and made it perfect...
I was able to prove how God based cults and even accepted religions are more ****** up than Satanism

Basically got to tell everyone that satanist are nicer people than they are.

i like how a single pic on a site about a religion that make sense changes many minds. if you keep it up you could pretty much over throw all the other religions in a few years just by the internet alone, of course it would have to be bigger and more complex
User avatar #2 - banditowolf (08/21/2013) [-]
okay, I now think being a satanist is officially a better religion than christianity.

Saw a comment where some anon goes "Yeah these are satan's rules because he was a nice guy" (paraphrased of course)

My thoughts?

Yeah and all other religions that have "gods" are all peaceful and nobody has been killed, raped, tortured..........

according to the bible, satan only killed 10 people. Which I mean is still bad but not compaired to god's 2.5 million

He is the one that tempted humans in defying God's authority and power. Humans tasted the Apple of Knowledge gaining the ability to question things. So pretty much LaVey is considering Satan the one that gave humans free thought, therefore these rules are meant to keep people from losing it.
User avatar #18 to #15 - killthebilly (08/22/2013) [-]
Satanism isn't only about Satan, even though the names indicates it. It's also a lot about the individual and being a human as a whole. Wrote a report on it a few years ago.

Just a note to the people saying that satanists don't follow these, killing babies and the like, and that satan was a bad guy - these are the rules of LeVayan satanism which is actually athiest.

In the words of their High Preist Peter Gilmore: "My real feeling is that anybody who believes in supernatural entities on some level is insane. Whether they believe in the Devil or God, they are abdicating reason. Satan is a model or a mode of behavior. Satan in Hebrew means 'adversary' or 'opposer'; one who questions. Satanism begins with atheism. We begin with the universe and say, 'It’s indifferent. There’s no God, there’s no Devil. No one cares!'" yay for using wikipedia to give evidence

Yea well while these seem like good rules, I don't believe in Satan either. Why not just be a good person to be a good person instead of doing it out of fear of being punished in the afterlife?
I hate how we can't talk about religion anymore without being referred to as a fedora

I have been looking this **** up too and ...and....and I have a silly theory.
oh boy opinions and theories!

I feel like there were being, among them "god" and "satan".
God ******* loved his power trip and wanted to rule everything. Satan was much kinder and did not agree with God. They went to war...

History is written by the victor.

Needless to say God won, he wrote the rules and Satan is bad now.

And they were aliens
