So I'm sure someone thought of this before, but here goes.
In Fullmetal Alchemist, there are two brothers: Ed and Al.
Actual alchemy (in the medieval times, and the precursor to chemistry) was focused on turning basic metals into more valuable metals. Specifically, medieval alchemists were concerned with turning lead into gold (probably because lead was common, or some other reason).
The Philosopher's Stone in alchemy is supposed to be able to change the lead into gold, somehow.
'Ed' and 'Al' is an anagram of 'lead,' and are looking for the Philosopher's Stone to transcend physical laws (alchemy; lead into gold, FA; reviving people, restoring limbs, becoming normal, etc.)
I just thought it was cool, and thought about this.
