Funny how my video game hobby is more expensive than my gun ownership.

DLC is only good if done right, and not just a shameless cash grab like a few companies do *cough* Capcom *cough* EA *cough*, or be overpriced *cough* EA *cough* Activision *cough*. The way DLC is supposed to work is that the company is supposed to work on the game entirely and finish it fully before even thinking about make extra content afterwards in order to lengthen your experience and playtime for the game. What it's not supposed to do is be just unlock codes for the rest of the game/characters/level/ect.

When it comes to pre-order bonuses, it's alright if it's a special weapon or costume or **** like that.
>Based on my knowledge as a gamer, college student learning how to make games, future developer.
User avatar #7 to #4 - darkseidrules (04/01/2013) [-]
I dig pre-order bonuses. Injustice has a pre-order bonus set that is based on one of my favorite books. That is cool with me. It doesn't matter to game play, it's just a happy additive to those who bought ahead.
Does anyone else remember gamestop's old pre-order bonuses. It was either GUN or Red Dead Revolver, but if you pre-ordered one of them, you got a deck of cards and some poker chips based on the game. Not in-game cards and chips. These were handed to you with your game at pick up. I miss that kind of stuff.
User avatar #8 to #7 - taintedangel (04/01/2013) [-]
IKR? Why can't pre-order bonuses be things like that? Toys, decks of cards, t-shirts. Hell even a bobble-bud. I wanna get into doing that as a future dev.

What would be really nice would be to make a game where the pre-order bonus is a DLC for a training mode in the game. A way to bone up and polish the skills beyond what the game already allows you to do. Make it like the Danger Room in X-Men. Yeah, the game comes with stock training modes, but the DLC gives you advanced stuff like extra dummies, harder challenges, and added achievement missions. It's a fun and harmless add-on that wouldn't really be missed if you didn't have it, but builds the experience if you do.

The paid DLC would come after the game. It would be a jumping off point in the game where you see how the game would be different if the character had made a different choice or acted outside of their normal MO, like alternate stories and endings. Like if they did this for Batman: Arkham Asylum. Make it so In one of the middle scenes, Batman had just outright publicly executed a villain. The prisoners would all act differently and maybe the Joker would come to him to see what "Broke the Bat." The game would progress differently. Maybe kill off the main guy and finish the game as a popular side character.

To you first idea: you brilliant ************ . I would love to have permission to use this idea for any fighting games I make (two ideas in my head already).

To the second idea: It is a great idea and i have seen it done before with Fallout 3 as an example of being done well, and Mass Effect 3 being an example of it done badly.
User avatar #20 to #15 - darkseidrules (04/01/2013) [-]
Go ahead, man. I'm not using the idea for anything.

I would like to see DLC make a turn toward, as much as it pains me to say this, Fan Service. Not sex stuff, but like the kind of stuff that people have been debating for years.
Like I said before, I am a huge fan of comics. My buddies and I always debate who would win in fights, but we can never play it out due to power balance in games. Make a DLC without that balance.

Superman Vs. Batman. Give Superman crazy power. Two punch kills at least. Give Batman simplified combos and dodge commands so the player can actually pull them off with finesse and tuned skill. See if Batman's gadgets and abilities can really out do Superman's speed and power.
Realism over balance mode: Exclusively as DLC.

You're amazing. I mean, I have a bunch of original ideas, but these two ideas blew me away. Simple, yet elegant.

I want you to use them. Major companies should be taking suggestions, that's how you make better games.

That's how I want to run my company. I also want to run it a bit differently than most do:
-I'm your boss in legal reasons only, I'm just as equal as every employee
-no idea is too stupid to pitch to me, being used is a different story
-make the AAA games the main priority, yet have an indie games branch where freshly graduated college students can work and gain experience
-pre-order toys/trinkets/t-shirts/ect.
User avatar #28 to #27 - darkseidrules (04/01/2013) [-]
Publisher William Gaines once said "I don't create my magazine, my editors do. I just provide the atmosphere."
I love the idea of running a company like that. Keep it fresh and never turn away an idea man. Reminds me of another game maker...Are you also afraid of 3's?
#29 to #28 - taintedangel (04/01/2013) [-]
I'm not afraid of 3's... especially if it's possible to make the 3rd game and my fans are asking for it. I've alwyas said that I want to be the next Gabe Newell Keiji Inafune or Hideo Kojima or Sherigu Miyamoto. (All my heroes btw.) Someone has to step up when they retire, why not me.

Hey, at least Bungie's new MMOFPS won't **** us over like that. They said there will be a micro-transaction system, but it's mostly for ammo and the like.
User avatar #10 to #2 - darkseidrules (04/01/2013) [-]
Fill me in, porfavor.
User avatar #11 to #10 - iamkagji ONLINE (04/01/2013) [-]
It's a game called Destiny. It will be for consoles only(Xbox 360, PS3-4), so no PC gamers can have this one. Bungie said they specifically make console games. If you have played Dead Space 3, the micro-transaction system sounds very similar to the one in there. It will have seamless, drop-in drop-out gameplay as well as multiple factions, quest lines, and planets you can play on. Iron sights are alluded to, but not confirmed. It's going to be an expensive game because of how big and complex it is, but they haven't given a price yet.
User avatar #16 to #11 - darkseidrules (04/01/2013) [-]
I haven't played Dead Space 3 yet. I'm trying to grind 1 and 2 first. I'm a completionist in the way that I like playing all the games in a series in order.
Would mind educating me and any others on the Micro-Transaction system?
User avatar #19 to #16 - iamkagji ONLINE (04/01/2013) [-]
Well, in DS3 you get these things called Scavenger Bots. They bring back assorted resources as well as Ration Tickets, which you can use in the micro-transactions for no charge. They are really easy to get, so as long as you actually play the game you will have no shortage of them and therefore no need to pay real money. The micro-transactions in DS3 are for weapon components and resources, not ammo. You can use the resources to make ammo, though.
User avatar #21 to #19 - darkseidrules (04/01/2013) [-]
I really like that. It's become a real problem in some games where you can't move on without paying,
I am looking forward to "Destiny" Now.

Thank you Iamkagji!

You are welcome. Just remember, Bungie specifically said it won't be on PC. Master race my ass...

My PC can hardly run TF2 single player practice. I am happy it'll be on a system with something under the hood.

oh, my, gawd!!!
You sir, are a freaking genius. glad to see that there are people who agree on NOT buying 10 times what the game is worth in just simple **** .
I love xbox, but at the same time.. why the **** do we have to pay $65 a year to use it, $70 for the game, about $20 a person, and $5 to $15 for a map that turns out to be a bunch of **** after they promised greatness. not to mention how many fags there are on xbox live. The games are almost as glitchy as freaking playstation. (thats just sad)

-Nintendo has gone to **** . They rely too much on technology (tablet as a remote) and it's really killing off the long time followers of them.

-Dont even get me started on the huge list of **** playstation needs to fix.

Did you just say that his opinions were,,,wrong.
TaintedAngel, I liked what you said up there in your original comment, but let's not pick on someone who likes a different system. I want this thread to be about the games, not useless pissing contests about which system is better.
Opinions: Live and let die, my comrade.
User avatar #12 to #9 - taintedangel (04/01/2013) [-]
I never once stated he was wrong. I just implied that his opinion was overly biased.

Have played the Xbox360, PS3, and Wii for a year and started on the Wii U. And with my unbiased opinion on the matter is that XBox is the worst one, due to:
-horrid customer support
-paying for the online feature that the competition offers for free
-less variety in exclusives
-most of it's 'exclusives' are for the PC as well, there by defeating the purpose of them being exclusive to the console.
User avatar #14 to #12 - darkseidrules (04/01/2013) [-]
Alright, may bad for calling you out like that. I'm sorry. I just didn't want it getting out of hand. Thanks for fleshing out your points.
How is the WiiU? I can't see it being very good since the Wii itself was struggling with content woes before the launch.
User avatar #25 to #14 - taintedangel (04/01/2013) [-]
I have had some favorable times with the Wii U. The tablet is very comfy, like holding a gamecube controller with a 6 inch touch screen in it. it's light-weight, so it won't strain the wrists, and the touchscreen and cam on it have given me many ideas on how to incorporate them into games.

Nintendonet, or whatever it was called is free, like PSN and offers download games from NES - GC like the Playstation does. Interconnectivity with the 3DS is a plus, the tablet is a better TV device than Kinect ever was, being able to play while someone else watches tv is a bonus.

My experience has been from playing the demo kiosks at eb games and playing with my friend's Wii U. He was a major hater of the Wii and dissaponted with Nintendo since it came out, is now giving praise to this console since playing it.

I have a PS3, which I enjoy immensely. The thing that really makes me mad is that they have limited to resale of games. I loved the story mode of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine. I tried to play online, and I can't progress past level five. Since I bought the game used, I don't have the code needed to unlock higher level online play, but I can buy one. Considering that online play I now a huge draw, I feel like limiting that is a poor choice.
I also have seen games that come with free DLC if you buy them firsthand. If you buy them used and the owner had used the code, you had to buy the stuff straight out. Just give me the game that I paid for. Withholding missions and game changing weapons is a pussy move in my opinion.

message the company, mainly the complaints dept. but if you can get it higher more likely that things will get done... get as many people as you can to spam them with the same complaint explaining why they will not be wasting their money when they don't sell the whole product up front
