It didn't raise awareness for me. I saw all these ice bucket videos, and I finally had to google what the ice bucket challenge was. Even then, they all said "to raise awareness for ALS."
Ok... what's ALS? That's a whole nother google search.

If I have to do research to figure out what you're promoting awareness for, you're doing a crappy job at raising awareness.

So, basically what you're saying is, because of the ice bucket challenge intriguing you, you researched and found out what ALS is, so now you are....wait for it...

what's ALS?
User avatar #44 to #22 - charagrin (08/20/2014) [-]
A disease only 4 out of 100,000 people have, totaling less than 30,000 people in the US, 4000 in the UK, and a palsy 1200 in Australia. But somehow it's a bigger deal than cancer, aids, diabetes, etc, because like all fads celebrities got involved.

You're right! And there have never been any publicity stunts designed to raise money for those diseases! Not once has anyone, say, organised an annual charity marathon in support of cancer! There aren't any annual awareness events, like a World Aids Day or World Diabetes Day! Those bastards with Lou Gehrig's Disease don't deserve help when these unknown, low-profile diseases are affecting so many people behind the scenes!

Lou Gehrig's Disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

It is what Stephen Hawking has.

I'm actually still not sure what ALS is. I know the ice bucket challenge is promoting awareness for it, and I may have seen it spelled out once, but I still don't know what it is.

Well, I'm just saying this ice bucket thing gets people interested. The point is to raise awareness, if it's getting people interested enough to talk about it or do research to find out more information about it, then I'd have to say it's doing it's job. I'm sure there's a lot more people out there no that know what ALS is because of this. So what if they had to look it up? It's really not that difficult to type three letters into Google.
