Him, Zedd and Porter Robinson are the 3 youngest producers (and Martin Garrix but **** that guy) who are very well known in the industry. In my opinion, those 3 are making much better music than most of the Djs who've been at it for years.

Dj'ing is a skill that is easy to learn, but hard to master.
I was once at a wedding a few years ago where they had a "professional DJ". All he did was play songs on his mac book that was connected to the speaker system.
User avatar #155 to #27 - alanflindt (01/02/2014) [-]
Boiler room is so sick man
Being pedantic here but Hopkins' isn't really djing, this is more of a live performance than a dj set.
A good example of skillful dj'ing is this Oneman set
Oneman Boiler Room DJ Set/ Solitaire Vol. 1 Launch
The mixing is near perfect, and selection is just ridiculous, from old DMZ stuff to Wiley, to Boddika, even Pearson Sound and ****** Artwork. Such a sick set, one of those rare occasions where the boiler room crowd actually wakes the **** up
User avatar #69 to #27 - rossthomson (01/02/2014) [-]
The boiler room is always amazing...

Friend of mine went to tomorrowland, saw steve aoki and told me that all he did was dance around and spray champagne around

But my favorite DJ remains Armin van Buuren for obvious reasons.
User avatar #41 to #27 - pulluspardus (01/02/2014) [-]
It is still not very different from a job of a music mixer.
some people find it hard, some don't it just depends, I find it a lot easier than say a dancer, and i find playing guitar and keyboard easier than drumming and high pitched singing (not low key though)
there is nothing in the world that "doesn't take skill" though.

User avatar #153 to #139 - gearshift (01/02/2014) [-]
Or, uh, maybe people who actually work in that area take the chance to comment on the subject since they have experiance with it?

I mean, it's not exactly something you can do just for thumbs or relevance since if you post something that contradicts it somewhere else you'd look like a huge twat.
User avatar #140 to #139 - lasmamoe (01/02/2014) [-]
The reason is that the people who usually comments are the people who are interested in the subject.

I don't give a **** about military for example, so i usually just skip those posts without commenting.

She's using sync in all of her **** though
User avatar #205 to #194 - nicolajibsen (01/02/2014) [-]
no... she's not - do you even know how the sync functions works on the cdj 2000 nxs? It doesn't work the same way as it does in VDJ
the only time i've seen her use sync was when she did a tempo transition

but why so much hate on the sync button though?
it only saves you a couple of seconds, to me it doesn't matter if you use sync, or look at the bpm count ant correct yourself
When the CDJ tells you the bpm of the song, why does it then matter?

The first real DJ booth I ever touched was some old denon cd player and a rodec mixer, therefore I've learned to beatmatch by ear
User avatar #206 to #205 - trolljunkusa (01/02/2014) [-]
Sync is basically letting the Mixer do all the work for you. The biggest part of mixing is the beat matching, and when you use a tool to sync up your tracks, you are missing on the most important part of mixing. Sync was designed to be a mistake corrector for newer DJs, not a helping hand for every track
User avatar #208 to #206 - nicolajibsen (01/02/2014) [-]
but there's hardly any difference between moving the pitch corrector yourself and pressing the sync button, as the player tells you the bpm of the song anyways - it's only a matter of seconds...
User avatar #209 to #208 - trolljunkusa (01/02/2014) [-]
You need to login to view this link

This article has both sides of our arguments, but it's main point is

sync is not mixing
User avatar #210 to #209 - nicolajibsen (01/02/2014) [-]
i know it isn't
I do get, that people are against the button, as it eases the process of mixing, and therefore making it easier for anybody who doesn't know what they are doing - but as the article says, there's much more to it than just matching to songs bpm. and due to it being a fact, any proper party hoster would never book a dj that doesn't know what to do

just to prove to you, that i ain't no ******** that knows nothing, i'll just leave these 2 links here

Damn, I hate to admit that I really like s3rl's music.

Happy Hardcore is like the spoiled little sibling of the Hardcore family, who got all the breaks, all the looks, all the money, all the chicks and all the successes of life without having to work for it. (...) Some of the stuff feels so godawfully childish that I feel like a pedophile just listening to it, but its not all bad. Truth be known: ALL the world's Happy Hardcore is made by only 12 guys, who have more pseudonyms than a shark has teeth, and who churn it out at such a feverish pace you'd almost think that there's probably a program that makes it for them.
