The funny thing is, their system works. Besides, if you lived in Norway you'd probably be so well off you wouldn't need to steal.

User avatar #48 to #42 - aisawinter (12/10/2013) [-]
You'll just get deported back to your own country, and spend time in a prison there.

GUYS.... GUYS! It is not prison prison. It is a rehabilitation center-prison

I thought prison was supposed to be unpleasant in order to deter you from committing a crime and going there, this one is nicer than a fucking Disney cruise.
#47 to #36 - anonymous (12/10/2013) [-]
And that is where you are wrong. Prisons are supposed to rehabilitate, at least in Norway, which is why our recidivism rate is so low.

Wanna know why its like this?

Norway believes in rehabilitation more than punishment. They believe if you treat a prisoner as "mentally ill" rather than "dangerous scum", then they start to see themselves as useful contributions of society and thus fix their life as such. Did you know that the Norway corrections systems has ways to give them equal opportunity jobs after rehabilitation? This is so that after they're released, they dont immediately return to crime.

And guess what? It works. Norway has one of the least numbers of "repeat offenders" in the world. The US has one of the highest numbers of said statistic.

Would you get sent to prison if you broke into a prison?

I thought the whole point of prison was to be punished? Not to be a place that you would WANT to go to..

Norwegian prisons aren't really "prisons". They're correctional facilities. The criminals don't stay there for long. They reform them and kick them out, so they can go be productive members of society. You know, making the dipshits useful instead of just wasting taxpayer money on them.
User avatar #183 - puppyfood (12/10/2013) [+] (2 replies)
I can see why this is done though. Prison is meant to reform criminal, not make them worse.
#268 - slandersalamander (12/10/2013) [-]
mfw their facilities are better than my school's

Treat people like decent human beings, and they will become decent human beings. Makes perfect sense to me.

There's a lot about Norway on here today.
I've come across three almost in a row.
I always thought there'd be norway that would happen.

My backup plan for when life fails on me, is to go to Norway and steal from every store.
If I don't get caught, free shit.
If I get caught, nice comfy prison

How can you be so casual? If you get caught you're deported and judged in your own country.

Why the fuck do they treat inmates so fucking well? I'm sure Norway has murderers and rapists too, meaning that they are DANGEROUS inmates. Yet they have a prison nicer than most U.S high schools.
#278 to #275 - krobeles ONLINE (12/10/2013) [-]
Because they aren't stupid enough to think that treating a crazy asshole like shit, will make him less of a crazy asshole.
Proper help and freedom under the supervision of responsible people, will him less of a crazy asshole.

Dosen't sound so strange, when you think about it, now does it?

Before anybody starts bitching about how Norway prisons are so cool and how your country's prison suck, just realize that the population of Norway is barely 5 million people while a country like the US is of 317 million.

This is pretty exorbitant for Norway's 3 inmate's.
