Does anyone here like RHCP? And if so, what are your opinions on I'm With You? I'm just curious because there seems to be a lot of mixed opinions about it.

I for one really like the album. Most of the songs are really catchy as hell. I don't like the slower songs but Police Station is really good. My favorites would have to be that, Ethiopia, and Look Around.

Skogsrå - Now You See Me (Official Video) [Indie Dance] - Rezonate - Canvas [Monstercat EP Release] Anybody else hate it when people don't consider EDM real music?
User avatar #153420 to #153406 - ithinkimightbelost (5 hours ago) [-]
Hate it? Nah. To some, metal is just noise. To others, hip-hop is mindless radio music. Country is for hicks, rap only qualifies as noise, etc, etc. Everyone has opinions on music they do and don't enjoy.

there was a free concert in my town about a month ago and i saw this song live www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb9q1ScC4cg and it was fucking immaculate. imagine hundreds of drunk white people older than 29 singing this in the middle of a city. the stage was in the middle of the street, they shut the entire downtown for it. i also knew every word so i proudly sung along. it was awesome.

ITT:
What's a band that you've connected with someone over?

With my sister I have Aerosmith and Placebo. Now I don't know way too much of Aerosmith but I can really dig it, and she says that when they come to Chile she's inviting me to see them live.
With my mom there's Led Zeppelin. Or at least Stairway to Heaven, she loves that song.
Stateless, with the first person on this site I called a friend, he introduced me the band. We both are NIN fans.
But the best is with R.E.M., my dad loves R.E.M. He is not familiar with the albums but he likes every popular song by them, so for every time I listen to one of their most known songs my dad instantly comes to my mind. And it is nice since I always been the black sheep in the family when it comes to music tastes. They hate all of my music ;_;

City & Color.

Met some girl that liked that band like me, which in turn led to us sharing the rest of our music taste, which led to more talking, which led to us going out. One of their songs was our song. (bring me your love if anyone knows em. also I know its just Dallas Green's solo project, not technically a band)

We broke up a little over a month and a half ago by now I think, don't remember the exact date. I still love her, but haven't talked to her in a month. Now I can never listen to City and Color again without thinking about her, which basically means I can't listen to them at all. Which is a shame, really. They were one of my favorite bands easily. Same thing with another band we found when we were dating, The Dear Hunter. One of my favorites, essentially gone cause I can't listen to them without it hurting too much. It sucks.

Something not so feely tho, me and brother fuckin love a shit ton of Metal bands, so thats dope.

Since there's a July 4th sale going on at guitar center, I figured it would be a nice time to pick up a bass. Any that you guys recommend me to look into?

I'm thinking of this. www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-Standard-5-String-Jazz-Bass-Guitar-108131715-i2026050.gc

www.guitarcenter.com/Rogue-LX205B-5-String-Series-III-Electric-Bass-Guitar-H11149-i1549554.gc#/customer-reviews

I prefer 5 strings and white color. Or black with a white pickguard to match the guitar I got. I don't really have a price limit at the moment so just whatever is fine.
#153393 to #153391 - Rascal (11 hours ago) [-]
be les claypool and get a six string fagg

also i can only see the fender and i have no clue about the bass
User avatar #153392 to #153391 - thebestpieever (12 hours ago) [-]
Unless you play very specific things, you don't need a 5 string bass. That kind of register is just not used in most music. With a normal basss on standard tuning you're only missing half an octave of a piano's lower register. Also, extra string on a bass, and having that string be lower is going to make muting more difficult -not to mention, navigating the notes is way easier if your lower string is an E as opposed to a B since you already play guitar.

But if you're decided to go for five, I'd say go with the Fender Jazz one. Second best bass they got after the precision one, but I don't know if they make those with five strings.
User avatar #153395 to #153392 - confusedasian (11 hours ago) [-]
Bands from my land use 5 strings. "If I get a ____ like ____ does, I'll be just like them." childish dreaming, get it?
User avatar #153400 to #153395 - thebestpieever (8 hours ago) [-]
What's your land?
User avatar #153419 to #153400 - confusedasian (6 hours ago) [-]
You know what, I got curious and watched a bunch of music videos really closely and paused whenever the bassists shows to get a better look, they are four strings. I guess it was the head (and the fact that I have bad eyes.) shape that made me see differently. I thought it was 4 on one side (top) and 1 on the other (bottom), but I looked closer after pausing and see that it's actually three on one side (top) and just the 1 on the other side (bottom).

Except for the bassists from Dying fetus, he's the only one I've seen so far that has a head with two on each side.

I have a question that's pretty retarded because it's hard to quantify what I mean in words. Is there a genre or a sub genre of music that's clean and elegant but still has a lot of force under it? I don't know how to describe it but I can come close to it with a few songs. It's the opposite of how AC/DC and the like are on full thrust the whole time, it sounds like it's holding back most of the time. I wonder if you can tell I didn't sleep last night. A good example would be like the opening to Roundabout by Yes.
User avatar #153387 to #153383 - thebestpieever (15 hours ago) [-]
AC/DC is rarely on full thrust, though. Like, they're esentially incredibly hard Blues, so their stuff has a lot of breathing room. Like, back in black, that thing is stacatto galore just to let the thing breathe.

2015 is half over! Let's talk about some of our favorite albums of the year so far. I'm just gonna list 5 for now, listing them in order of release rather than trying to decide which I like more than the other (for now).

1. Airospace - All Dreams End
A great mixtape that took a few listens before I really considered it amazing. Maybe Airo's finest work to date. I'm not sure what it is, maybe something about how the beats he picked for this one mesh with his vocals/lyrics, but it struck a chord in me, maybe more than anything else I've heard from him.
Favorite track: High School

2. Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
I'm sure this will be on a lot of people's top albums lists at the end of the year. Sufjan and his sad folk bring out the inner depression in all of us.
Favorite track: John My Beloved

3. The Mountain Goats - Beat The Champ
A triumphant return for The Mountain Goats. I like how John Darnielle can still keep things interesting after 20 years or however long he's been putting music out, both conceptually and musically. Wrestling + folk music sounds like a strange combination and it is, but he makes it work.
Favorite track: Heel Turn 2

4. Dance Gavin Dance - Instant Gratification
I love this album, and I think it's because Tilian Pearson's clean vocals are finally starting to grow on me. Or maybe he just wrote more interesting vocal melodies for this album than the last. Either way, post-hardcore noodlings mixed with various grooves of other genres makes this another great DGD album.
Favorite track: Variation or On The Run (can't decide)

5. Anti-Flag - American Spring
New album from one of my all time favorite bands. I usually never expect Anti-Flag to match the greatness of For Blood and Empire or The Terror State with any release these days, not because they can't but just because I love those albums so much that it's hard for me to put anything above them. I think American Spring is the closest they've come in awhile though. There's enough classic A-F mixed with fresh different ideas to make this possibly my favorite album from since For Blood and Empire. Maybe. haha
Favorite Track: The Great Divide.

So, how about you guys?

There hasn't been a ton of music that has really caught my ear so far, compared to the last few years.

Amon Tobin - Dark Jovian: Just after Record Store Day this year, Amon Tobin finally released the semi-ambient EP I didn't know I've been waiting for. It's a soundtrack for stargazing in his own distinct style.

Nicolas Jaar - Pomegranates: Dropped out of the blue as an alternate soundtrack to a late 60s Soviet art film about Armenian folklore. The only thing I can really appreciate about the film itself is the great visual style, but Nicolas Jaar's soundtrack works even without it. Artsy electronic wankery is the best.

Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell: As depressing as it is, I could not stop listening to this one for weeks after it came out. It's earned a place as one of my all time favorites and probably the only album I know almost all the lyrics to.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Asunder, Sweet And Other Distress: Basically Allejujah pt. 2. I'm not complaining, I love both of albums. Asunder is a droney post rock sploogefest.
