Well, DARE is a horrible system because it doesn't teach you anything about the drugs themselves, just spews fake horror stories of people dying of something ridiculous on marijuana, or that LSD with erase your mind, or hash will make your flesh rot off your bones. They don't teach you how the drugs work, or what an overdose is, or how the affects can cloud your decision-making. All they do is hammer into your skull that 'drugs are bad, drugs are bad, drugs are bad,' to the degree that it makes it seem that pot is as dangerous as angel dust. It's just an extension of the idiotic money-sink that is the War on Drugs.

Hey, angel dust isn't so bad. I did some once and only killed and ate two of my friends.

Agreed, i remember seein a video of them filiming an autistic boy in a wheel chair and him claiming it was from experimenting with LSD. **** was ****** up...
#43 to #3 - jaked (04/29/2014) [-]
To elaborate on your point, we aren't just angry at the misinformation, it's actually dangerous. They spew horror stories and make pot out to be just as bad as other drugs because they figure more people are likely to try pot, but when people do try pot or just look up statistics and realize that they were lied to about it, they can start to think consciously or subconsciously that they were lied to about all drugs and that they're all as innocuous as weed.

Here's some advice for people who are considering doing drugs:

Firstly, start small. This applies to anything. Don't be one of those ******* kids who bombs a whole bag of MDMA and dies in a closet somewhere. Take a small amount, and wait. if more is required, do so.

Secondly, if you are in any way mentally unstable, or have a family history of it, don't do any drugs at all. Drugs and psychological problems do not mix very well.

Thirdly, stay away from 'legals'. Legal highs are the majority of the time legal solely for the reason that they haven't been tested properly and nobody has died from them yet. Unless you want to be that person, you should probably stay away from them.

Fourth, if you take a drug you've never done before, don't panic. Just relax and stay calm. If you start freaking out you're most likely going to have a very very bad time.

Fifth, don't do the drugs that are renowned for ******* you up. This means heroin, meth, crack, etc...

Sixth, avoid pills. A lot of pills tend to just be **** mixes of other drugs and can often contain very harmful chemicals. If you're going to do illegal drugs, at least do the pure ones.

Finally, if you're going to do something that makes you trip balls, always have a sober friend there to make sure you don't hurt yourself.

Stay safe, have fun. Drugs are not as dangerous as some people think, as long as you're being sensible with them. (Or as sensible as you can be when doing drugs, which generally as a rule isn't sensible at all, but oh well, you'll probably do it anyway.)

I mean, when I was 14 I got myself into some deep **** , and become addicted to speed for a few years. Tried out a whole slew of them, everything from Acid to Zoquete. Been sober 4 years now, but I never really said I'd never do them. Not a day goes by I don't want them, but then I generally just get a burrito at chipotle, cause that ***** just as good and about 5 times cheaper. Either way, I do some public speaking things every now and then at schools to say drugs are bad. Which they are. Don't do drugs kids, **** sucks, and it'll **** you up, and make you **** up every real relationship you have. Not to mention it makes you look like **** all the time too. Would you rather be doing lines, or drowning in pussy? Thats what I thought. Also, for gods sake, pot doesn't count as a drug, that doesn't hurt **** any more than a cigarette. In fact, cigarettes are worse.

When I was 14, my dad left my mom for another woman, and my mom ended up driving off of a bridge because she couldn't handle the rejection. I ended up living with my aunt and uncle, and it wasn't awful, they didn't hurt me or anything, but they really didn't care one way or the other, they gave me food and shelter, thats about it. don't misunderstand me, I'm grateful to them for taking me in, but I didn't see it that way then. I became pretty depressed and closed myself off from my friends, or pretty much anyone, and because of that, I got really lonely, and eventually, even more depressed in this sort of ****** cycle of self pity. I was just a confused kid who missed his parents, but I didn't have anyone I could talk to and my aunt wouldn't even let me out of the house long enough for me to visit my moms grave or to talk to a psyciatrist or anything like that. Eventually, I ran off and tried to jump off the same bridge my mom did. I survived, and was given these really strong pain meds because it ****** up my body quite a lot, nothing perminant, but it hurt, they ended up giving me some depression meds too. I noticed pretty quickly that when I took them, everything kind of numbed up, even my feelings, so I started lieing and saying I was still in pain to get more. Fast foreward a few months, and I met this friend who wanted some of the pills, so I'd give them to him for his company, he introduced me to the wrong crowd of people, and I started trying out different drugs with them to seem cool enough to be around them, I was just really lonely and wanted some friends, but they weren't the kind of people I should have been hanging around with. Long story short, I started up on speed, and was stuck on it for years. I'm just lucky I made it out of that life without any perminant harm to myself. Its actually thanks to my current fiance that I worked up the nerve to finally get help. So yup, there it is, been sober 4 years, and happy now.
User avatar #63 to #62 - sciencexplain (04/29/2014) [-]
Wow... That's ******* rough. Glad you got out of it then, cause drugs are hard to shake once you're hooked. You've had a hell of a life, though. Much rougher than any **** I've been through.
User avatar #65 to #63 - pokimone (04/29/2014) [-]
I mean, it sucks really, but something I learned in rehab, is that you've gotta forgive the people that caused you pain, including yourself. I realized I was angry at my father and blamed him, and in a weird kind of way, I think that caused me to act more like him and take some risks I shouldn't have. Overall though, I think I came out of it all as a stronger person. 8 years later, and I have a beautiful fiance whom I love more than anyone in the world, and I have my dream job working with the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services, I'm working on my Ph.D in Literature, and I get to go into schools sometimes to explain what drugs do to you and why you shouldn't do them. Of course I use much milder language there, lol, I try not to swear around kids. Either way, my lifes pretty good now, and while I don't like who I was back then, theres no real benefit to living in the past. You should remember it because its a part of you, and learn from it so you can grow as a person, but if you spend all of your time focusing on the past, or the negative parts of your life, all you'll ever feel is lonely. As long as I have you here though, and this is entirly unrelated, but thank you for being such a stand up guy and explaining things to the good people of this site, I think I've called on you a few times in the past, and you've never dissapointed. So thanks for that Sciencexplain.
User avatar #67 to #65 - sciencexplain (04/29/2014) [-]
Aww, stop it you. You seem like a great person and your life has turned out better than it probably would have if you continued. It takes so much effort to stop, but it takes a real special person to stop for good. Keep doing what your doing, because I'm sure your story will change lives, and that is the most you could ask for when it comes to telling children your tale. And feel free to summon me anytime you desire. I'll come running as quick as possible.

There are many hard drugs like acid, mushrooms, cocaine that I firmly believe everyone should try at least once in their lifetime. Living your entire life scared of those types of things is no way of living at all and if you don't try them you are missing out on some life changing experiences. Just keep in mind: everything in moderation. The same rule that applies to cake. If you are not a 350 lb beast with no self control then you probably won't become a crack addict. but don't actually do crack
#4 to #2 - anon (04/29/2014) [-]
I would say that cocaine is debatable, but yeah, you have a point.
User avatar #5 to #2 - nudybooty (04/29/2014) [-]

I'm 18, and I don't want to do drugs, at all. Not because I'm scared but because I simply don't want to. I'm not missing out on anything from what I see when my friends do drugs, they sit there a bit more stupid and hungry and then that's it. I just don't feel the need to do any drugs, and that doesn't mean that I'm scared of it.
User avatar #19 to #16 - formeranony (04/29/2014) [-]
I think he's saying don't let society tell you that it's all bad. IT can really change your perspective for the better, cause it sounds like you pretty judgmental of your friends, that being said everything in moderation is always good advice.
User avatar #21 to #19 - luckyshotdk (04/29/2014) [-]
Oh, I couldn't care less for them doing drugs, just like they couldn't care less for me not doing them. I just meant that they sit there and laugh at more stupid jokes than normally, which of course gets a good laugh out of me as well. All I'm saying is that I'm not interested, not because of society, just because I don't want to.
User avatar #28 to #21 - formeranony (04/29/2014) [-]

I drink, that's as far as it goes.

I want to try weed but I have a really addictive personality so I'd probably end up getting hooked on the **** and I don't want that.
#66 to #35 - anon (04/29/2014) [-]
Pro tip: You can't get physically addicted to weed. Some people get addicted of course, but only in the same way as you get addicted to shopping or gambling. And yeah, stoners go on how they can't sleep without smoking first etc, but it's the same lame excuse as "of course I deserve a drink, it's saturday" that people including me use even if they have been on the piss for 2 days already.
#68 to #66 - anon (04/29/2014) [-]
That said, I find it to be a weak and boring drug. Also, if you are unhappy in any way it will just make things worse. The best way to enjoy it is having a bunch of snacks and funny movies and just relax. The next best way is to have a bunch of snacks and listen to gripping music like Pink Floyd or Mike Oldfield in some good headphones. Falling asleep after a smoking session does feel super nice, and your head is clear as a bell the morning after. But yeah, It's been years since I smoked, not sure if I ever want to again. The risk to fail a drug test half a year after smoking isn't really worth it to me when alcohol is so cheap and plentiful. Because I brew my own, hur hur.
User avatar #36 to #35 - Imbtrtenu (04/29/2014) [-]
I'm going to tell you right now that if you get hooked on weed you would have been an alcoholic by now.

I drink far too much.

But I have friends who smoke and a lot of them find it hard to go a few days without it.
User avatar #38 to #37 - Imbtrtenu (04/29/2014) [-]
Hard is not being addicted. Not being able to is being addicted. If you're an alcoholic man just switch to weed. It's better for you in the long run. And in my opinion it's a better feeling.
User avatar #10 - hellomynameisbill ONLINE (04/29/2014) [-]
I don't do drugs because i've actually read up on and talked to drug addicts online. I honestly think that I'd be better off not worrying about that. considering that I'll be sad and stressed either way in the long run.

but to be honest, the majority of druggies on the internet I have interacted with have recommended I do marijuana. so yes, peer pressure works and you're the problem with it.

Fags who never tried drugs but think they're evil because TV tells them so.
Fags who never tried drugs but think they're "cool" just because they're illegal.
Fags who actually do drugs, but overpraise them and think they're good for health and other **** . And they are also the main reason why society has a bad relationship with drugs.

drugs are not an immoral thing, but that's not what they teach in school and those programs. there's nothing wrong with doing drugs every once in awhile, but overusing them and letting them ruin your or someone else's life is a bad scene. i've only smoked pot and it's not that fantastic, to me anyway. nice to relax with friends and unwind but otherwise it's not the godsend stoners make it out to be.

there is alot of hard **** that you probably want to stay away from (coke, meth, heroin), but there's also other things that aren't that bad, just depends on how and where you use them. things like acid and mushrooms you don't want to do by yourself or in a dangerous environment. have someone there that is sober and can watch you so you don't **** yourself up.

and honestly from the people i've talked to that have done mushrooms and acid, it's a life changing experience and something they think everyone should do at least once in their lifetime. it offers a new perspective on life.

so honestly in my own opinion drugs aren't bad, it's people who use them incorrectly that are bad. don't be pressured into doing drugs but also don't believe everything people tell you. research it. the effects, the long term effects. the pros and cons. a impartial opinion on the drug. be smart, be safe, and don't ****** lip the pipe
