Actually that's wrong.
You can **** up coins as long as you're not using them for like fraud n **** .

BUT!
You can't do jack ******* **** to dollars or your ass meets Barry the 540lb asspirate.

Not entirely true either. You're right about coins, but with bills it's only illegal if it makes the bills "unfit to be reissued."
For example, have you ever seen those wheresgeorge.com stamps on bills? Those are legal since the bills are still "nice" enough to be reissued.
Sauce: www.moneyfactory.gov/historicallegislation.html
User avatar #114 to #30 - ColeTheUber (01/16/2014) [-]
Actually, a few years ago it was made illegal for Where's George to put their stamps on bills, just because it was "advertising on United States currency which is illegal under 18 U.S.C. § 475".
Regardless, there have been official announcements made that typically state that no one really cares about Where's George stamping bills; that it's still illegal but nobody wants to enforce it.
User avatar #126 to #114 - peegu (01/16/2014) [-]
True, true, but it did stop wheresgeorge from selling its own stamps. Since then, you have to either make you own or get one from a 3rd party.
#53 - darkparadox (01/16/2014) [-]
It's not really illegal, the law was put in place to prevent people from defacing currency and then utilizing it as legal tender. Such as changing the corner to make it appear as a higher value with bills, or shaving slivers off of coins and then spending the coin while keeping the pieces. Destroying coins and such with no intent to later use it is fine. Besides, how do you think people get away with those penny squishing machines?
User avatar #76 to #53 - AngryRedMidget (01/16/2014) [-]
Well most of the penny squishers squish blanks, and they cost a dollar anyways.
#99 to #76 - breakfastskippa (01/16/2014) [-]
Or do it for free yourself.
User avatar #82 to #76 - tenthdivine (01/16/2014) [-]
All the penny squisher machines I've seen (keeping in mind this was YEARS ago) you put in two quarters and your own penny and it dropped it in and you turned the handle n watched your penny get squished.
User avatar #81 to #76 - Chubs (01/16/2014) [-]
i dont know what rich hooty tooty places you go to, but the penny squashers i've been to are exactly 51 cents, and it squishes that penny up, you can still sometimes see the face

#22 to #18 - omnipotentsoap (01/15/2014) [-]
well a quarter is more of a woman's ring it would be to thin for someone with a ring size of over a 7 or 8, but a half dollar can be made thicker if desired. The issue is a genuine silver half dollar is expensive
User avatar #24 to #22 - blasthardcheese (01/15/2014) [-]
How much would that be?
#25 to #24 - omnipotentsoap (01/15/2014) [-]
just looked on amazon, 9 dollars on sale, 20 off
User avatar #26 to #25 - blasthardcheese (01/16/2014) [-]
If you're able to buy the one on sale now, it would be great. What price will they be around?
#28 to #26 - omnipotentsoap (01/16/2014) [-]
the ring itself 43 dollars
the way I calculated that was:
$4 shipping
$9 coin
$30 for labor- $10/hr
User avatar #29 to #28 - blasthardcheese (01/16/2014) [-]
Sounds completely reasonable, when will you be able to make them?
#32 to #29 - omnipotentsoap (01/16/2014) [-]

If I had a dollar for every time someone told me defacing currency was illegal, I'd have twice as many dollars.
User avatar #14 - nthmetal (01/15/2014) [-]
Use a quarter dated pre 1965.
Those have higher silver content.
User avatar #27 to #14 - peegu (01/16/2014) [-]
Quarters 1965 and later don't have any silver whatsoever. The composition is about 82% copper 8% nickel. 1964 and older is 90% silver 10% copper.
User avatar #40 to #27 - awesomedudeforty (01/16/2014) [-]
He did say pre 1965, as in before 1965.
User avatar #45 to #40 - OsamaBinLadenz (01/16/2014) [-]
I'm pretty sure he was referring to the fact that the guy said "higher silver content", which makes it seem like quarters from 1965 and later have any silver.
User avatar #41 - supername (01/16/2014) [-]
how did it become perfectly ring like in the 9th to tenth panel
#56 to #41 - orthorn (01/16/2014) [-]
i dont know. hes using a ring bar but when i do it i just use a normal size bar of the size i want
User avatar #61 to #56 - shadownigga (01/16/2014) [-]
I'm pretty sure he flipped the ring around on the ring bar and hammered the other side.
#62 to #61 - orthorn (01/16/2014) [-]
wouldnt that make the slant go in the oposite direction?
User avatar #63 to #62 - shadownigga (01/16/2014) [-]
**** ***** I dunno.
#64 to #63 - orthorn (01/16/2014) [-]
wellthe whole thing is slanting down so he can only put the ring so far downand the other side would hang. he probably used a normal bar
User avatar #58 to #56 - supername (01/16/2014) [-]
well however he did it it was still really cool to see.
User avatar #70 - messerauditore (01/16/2014) [-]

User avatar #83 to #70 - loneranger (01/16/2014) [-]

i have never seen anything on the machine pertaining to having a special license.

voices.yahoo.com/how-illegal-deface-money-449451.html

this is how they pretty much operate, and how this guy is allowed to make that ring, through a loophole in the law
