It frightens me knowing that today's music will be the old stuff of the future.
******* dubstep in dem nursing homes all day.

it doesn't always work that way, I'm pretty certain there will be never be like people listening to disco music in nursing homes.

Except **** like dubstep has no staying power. The real old stuff will still be timeless songs from the 70's and 80's, as they're what started modern music. I still have hope. Just because one generation ends doesn't mean the music of the generation before ends with it.

Your right, I'm a DJ and if I played a popular dubstep tune from like two years ago i would be booed off stage :p

idk man you mix up some skrillex with lets saaaaay....sub focus? I think it might not be so bad. Then again I have passion for edm music in general and like alot of main stream stuff. Im tired of arguing with people because for some reason popular things are completly awesome to target and over criticize and while im all for peeps having their own opinions. **** YOU if you dont like me cause I like skrillex afrojack, steve aoki, hardwell, or any other big edm artist like zedd or krewella. Just because its on the radio doesnt mean its complete **** . Things just get over played.

Your right, I like to play a lot of krewella and Knife Party. Only because the crowds reaction to a song like centipede is just awesome! Just saying.

I think Dubstep is judged much too quickly, by people who don't give it a chance. I honestly think edm (not specifically dubstep) is the music of the future, the amount of complexity and detail that goes into just one song shocks and amazes me. Also, almost anybody can start making it pretty easily, all it takes is s song in your heart. Not a good voice or years of practice on an instrument. I listen to traditional music just as much as EDM, but there is something about it that goes beyond anything else I have ever listened

I used to also laugh about people who listened to dubstep and other electronic music, but once I started giving it a chance I realized what they had been talking about all along. I think that many people have also started to do the same, look at people like Daft Punk, Swedish House Mafia, deadmau5, Zedd, etc. All of these artist are being played more and more on the radio and by the mainstream audience.
User avatar #110 to #102 - abstract (10/08/2013) [-]
I'm happy more and more people think like you. People can like the music they like but shouldn't put down a whole genre just because of their opinion about it. But also, producing is kind of like an instrument. You can watch every tutorial on Youtube, but you still have to practice and perfect your skills

#83 to #50 - yudancha (10/08/2013) [-]
That's the thing though, all throughout history people hate the new generation of music and see it as inferior to the previous generation. People hated rap when when it was created. Same for rock and roll, jazz, ragtime, modern classical, and plenty of other genres. Hell, even in the early 20th century when the Rite of Spring was first performed, the audience hated it so much that they got up in the middle of the performance and rioted in the streets.

Swift maybe, but I seriously doubt 1D makes it. After all, there's NSync, BSB, the Jonas Brothers, Big Time Rush... boy bands are not made to last. If anything they'll get to become actors like Timberlake and escape the Titanic of music.
User avatar #33 to #22 - tenaciousjon (10/08/2013) [-]
Pretty much. Bands like Justin Bieber, One Direction and all them... They're kinda like how CoD games are, now. They're just a temporary fling. Then a new one comes along and everyone forgets about the old one.

Then you have bands like Black Sabbath which were made to last. I guess you can predict this, based on the variety in their music. I've heard many 1D songs and they all sound so similar... Upbeat, life is perfect, nothing can ever go wrong... That's just how boy bands seem to work.

The only reason they last as long as they do is because people seem to love hating them. I'd bet money that if people stopped jumping on the "Hating the new bands" bandwagon, they'd die out twice as fast.
User avatar #166 to #22 - rieskimo (10/08/2013) [-]
Even Swift, I mean how many people hear Cyndi Lauper? And Lauper actually had writing talent and didn't have to resort to running a chain of exes to write her songs.

I love death metal too, and I always pictured myself being that guy. Could you imagine the conversations guys like us would have with our grandkids? Time will filer the garbage from the quality. One Direction and Taylor Swift will simply be forgotten like so many many artists before. Most crappy boy bands from the eighties are forgotten. We only remember the really bad (to laugh at) and the really good (because quality is usually timeless).
Ugg boots will be a joke like platform shoes and bell bottom jeans.

here's two hits from the past. Bet you've heard the second.

Anberlin-(*Fin) (Full version)
Yeah, I agree with you, they won't be remembered.
Though Taylor Swift has a song or two that are actually great, namely Safe and Sound.
But here's a band that I think will. Any Anberlin fans here? This is worth the listen.

I guess I might have been too harsh to say they will be totally forgotten.
I think to re-align my thoughts more I doubt they will return so heavily as Queen and Nirvana which had thier 'not trendy anymore' period (early nineties and late nineties respectively). Now those bands have younglings thinking they missed a greater period in music. I doubt taylor and OD will have a resurgence due to their exceptional talent or performances.Though best of luck to them, I've been wrong many times before. I'm sure they both have some really good songs.

I don't think or hope this will happen.

Up until now there has been some trend to long for the good old days music.
But those were mostly talented bands. I mean we still have talented musicians now.
I am pretty sure the popmusicians who will be remembered will be people like Justin Timberlake, etc. (I am not trying to start a discussion on talented musicians, but i think there is talent in a lot of nowdays popmusicians also).

This i ofc not only for pop music..
