heretic? it was from the same creators of doom, even if you put doom's cheats on the console it would do the exact same opposite

like when you put "IDDQD" in heretic, it would say something like "you wanted to be inmortal? now you die" or something like that
User avatar #38 to #33 - snowshark (04/18/2014) [-]

It wasn't as good as Fur Fighters though. Heretic is one of the unsung gems of gaming (though only because it is basically a fantasy version of Doom with slight improvements here and there) but Fur Fighters is a genuine lost treasure.

Same thing with Anime, obviously.

I don't have any prejudice towards anyone who likes ponies or watches anime, I liked the first two seasons of FiM and I've seen a few good animus and mangos in my time, but I am deeply annoyed by people who try to ponify everything as well as people who turn everything into anime-related stuff. In that aspect, bronies and anime fanatics are nearly identical.

X is another story letdown, AH is actually kinda fun, JA is impossible to play on emyoolators.
3 is a blast, but there's no such thing as a good disc of it in North America, so you basically need a PS1 emulator and the Japanese version to play it.
#25 to #20 - anon (04/18/2014) [-]
Yeah I'd love to see a proper Ace 3 with story for NA. I'm worried about how they are handling the new games though. I haven't played Assault Horizon, but it looks like they are going for more arcade feel and cinematic look for their games. I also don't like that they are changing it to the real world instead of original countries and planes, those flying fortresses were awesome.
User avatar #26 to #25 - friedgreenpomatoes ONLINE (04/18/2014) [-]
The gameplay isn't bad so much as much of the new stuff they added is unnecessary.

AC04: Shattered Skies and AC5: The Unsung War usually have the same amount of fans on any website, as far as I know.

Ace combat Zero was up there. I started as Mobius 1. I fought as a Wardog and flew as a demon as Blaze.
But Zero. Zero made me think. It humanized the people I was shooting down. Each person a different story. A different Ace. Another target or an honorable opponent to Cipher.

And then my wingman. The one trusted to get my back, just to show me how true betrayal felt. Shattered Skies introduced me. The Unsung War perfected me. Zero humanized me.

Y buddy. Still alive?

Sing it brothah. Whenever I get a new PC I install it just to mod the hell out of it. In many ways it is better than Obby or Skyrim. Sheer size, variation, etc. of course modern games have such high graphics, audio, and the like that it is impossible to build a game like Morrowind using modern methods. Which makes me sad.
#136 to #129 - zomaru (04/19/2014) [-]
Have you ever heard of the skywind conversion? They are taking the marowind and completely converting it over to the skyrim engine.

Just, what makes you think we can't make a game like Marrowind again? Granted I have little experience but I never though it was as good as Skyrim or Oblivion. Oblivion I think is the best.
User avatar #170 to #136 - charagrin (04/19/2014) [-]
It has nothing to do with whether we can or not, of course we can. But to build a whole new game the size and scope of Morrowind, but with the graphics and utilities of modern gaming, a game company would have to sink many more man hours and money into it than a possible return would allow. Not to mention the sheer size of the files required.
User avatar #140 to #136 - thenewgizmobox (04/19/2014) [-]
unfortunately this has been in the process for a very, very long time, ever heard of morroblivion? that's what it was originally before they decided to move it over. we probably won't see skywind for a good few years if they don't decide to move it to the next elder scrolls game...
User avatar #145 to #140 - zomaru (04/19/2014) [-]

I actually don't play with any mods, but I love it all the same. I absolutely love the setting; Oblivion was your standard fantasy setting and while Skyrim wasn't your typical Western European-esque setting it was still European. Morrowind on the other hand is just beautiful, from the plains of the Grazelands to the giant mushroom trees in the Ascadian Isles to the barren and grey Ashlands.

I really hate when people deny sequels that are actually better in terms of improvements because of nostalgia. Ya I know some games do go downhill but some sequels actually did a lot. Splinter Cell Blacklist comes to mind, where rabid fanboys freak and say that Chaos Theory was the pinnacle of stealth and can't be beat. Blacklist fixed clunky jumping and that god-awful mechanic where one enemy catches a small glimpse of you .5 seconds before you knock him out and everyone suddenly knows exactly where you are. That and a few other awkward controls, but every fan feels the need to screech at blacklist.

<- how SC fans tend to treat anyone else who plays who isn't playing Chaos Theory 100% stealth no gadgets with the controller up your ass.

Me, my brother and a cousin began to cry tears of joy when we first unlocked Diddy Kong. Oh my god those were the good times...

I remember getting a promotional VHS in the mail for Donkey Kong Country. It was ******* amazing and my brother and I begged our parents to buy it for us. We finally got it and took turns playing. To this day I'd say it might be my favorite game ever. The N64 version seemed under-planned and seems to fail epically in comparison to the original with pre-rendered 3D graphics and a kick-ass soundtrack. **** . I know what I'm doing tomorrow!

Wow, that's cool. but still, if you've never played DK64 i recommend it to you, the levels are great and the music is really good too. I don't know about DKC to be honest, but DK64 was one hell of a drug for me.

The first game I bought and played on my own for my PS2 was Conflict: Desert Storm. It completely blew my mind. I thought it was the best damn thing since sliced bread and played through it at least a dozen times. Bad graphics or not, it's never lost its appeal.

You think I need it again? I still have that very same copy I bought all those years ago. I got Conflict Vietnam, too. But my Global Terror disk is scratched the hell and gone and will never work, nor can I find Desert Storm II anymore .

I'm a relatively big GOG fan so I just share links when I can. It appears that Take 2 may have the publishing rights to Desert Storm 2 but hasn't bothered to release it because they don't think there's enough interest.

Thanks anyway. It IS a goddamn shame that Denied Ops pretty much sunk the series. It was doing so well too- Global Terror was pretty well received, it terms of reviews. I wasn't aware who still had series rights, but that's a start. I still remain confident the series will one day get a good kick in the ass and rebound on a modern consol. It's happened before.
