Tech N9ne broke a rib before a performance for soldiers in Kuwait, still performed. Rappers have a ton of respect for the military, even the ones who hate the government like Immortal Technique.

A soldier isn't a hero simply for signing up.
User avatar #33 to #2 - Kingsteveooo (08/01/2014) [-]
I dont support what the troops are being sent to do, I don't support the war, and I don't the justification of the war. But I will always support the individuals risking their lives doing what theyre told to do.

Where the **** does it say that he's a hero?

We're really not, and to be honest I can't stand soldiers that think they are a hero when they haven't done anything special.

tell that to all those idiots at my highschool who are enlisting to become marines half them have zero firearm experience and think the marines will be something they can just cruise through they all brag about how they're gunna be bad asses that they're heroes and how they're gunna be killing terrorist and **** but sweet holy **** do they bug the **** outta me always trying to get me to enlist with them if i wanna join i'll join after i finish highschool
User avatar #19 to #18 - waffies (08/01/2014) [-]
The **** kind of recruiters do you have in your town? I've spoken to three local marine recruiters and they do their best to keep people like that out!
User avatar #43 to #18 - neogrungist (08/02/2014) [-]
Most of those guys will get hemmed up in basic. That being said, lack of firearm experience can be a good thing when going into the military because it means you don't have any bad habits. Oh and there's a very decent chance that most of those guys enlisting to be badasses will end up being pencil pushers or whatever other boring job the marines decide to throw them into.

maybe so but showing respect is pretty neat so yep

I think we're supposed to assume it was a soldier who actually served.

Still doesn't make him a hero IMO, soldiers support an unnecessary war that's only there because of greedy, fat, rich people who wants to exploit third world countries. If that soldier dies, it's sad of course and I don't wish that upon him, but he didn't die for anyone's freedoms or whatever he thinks he's fighting for, he died for someone else's greed.

Thumb me down if you want, it's the truth.

This doesn't apply for those who have done great things in battle, such as saving someone or risked their lives for someone else like that soldier that was recently on the front page who threw himself over a live grenade to save another soldier. These people are not heroes for being soldiers, they are heroes for doing great things and the fact that they wear a uniform doesn't make me respect them any more than if they were civilians who saved lives.

Noone wants to see their own country be defeated in battles, even when it's their nation that are the "attacking" part. Some people feel that they don't have much of a choice about going into the military, if they can't afford to do otherwise, the military is a decent option.

A soldier isn't a hero for simply serving.

I think treating a soldier any different than anyone else is as cringe worthy as someone treating a woman differently from a man. M'lady

ISAF soldier steps on landmine - **WARNING GRAPHIC MEDICAL PROCEDURES**

This video is **** and it shows what you train for in the military, and what you work with as a soldier. Even ******* POGs learn how to fight and save lives. You don't have to treat soldiers differently, but you better ******* respect their line of work.

I work a normal job. I go to a normal community college. I'm trying to get a degree so I cna have a chance at getting a slightly less normal job.
I'm a normal person. I do normal things.
A soldier does not work a normal job, on duty or at home. A soldier goes and fights and deals with mentally, emotionally, and physically draining things.
When I finish with all that i Have plan, I'll be done. It is that simple.
When a soldier finishes what they do, they're not. Years await them of hospital visits as even unwounded soldiers have bodily damages to themselves.
Soldiers don't deserve to be treated like Gods, but they definetly deserve a little ******* respect for what they go through.

I have two soldiers who are currently in the reserves, both for national guard, both have done tours of duty in Iraq, both have seen their friends die, and have killed people. Both of them come to work every day and live normal lives, and they expect nothing more than the minimum wages that they're paid. Both of them do what they can at home to be helpful citizens as they have protected theirs and our rights to be. Both of them have PTSD and yet they still walk among us.

Saying a soldier doesn't do normal things is incorrect.

Both of them are more normal than most people I know. And yet have plenty of confirmed kills.

I've asked them both about their PTSD and got to know that once they've done it, it becomes normal to them.

TL;DR Just because something someone does is different, doesn't mean it's not normal.

Respect is earned not given, not everyone in a uniform is Captain Miller. Plenty of people deal with **** that's just as emotionally and physically draining.
You don't judge someone on how they look, that goes both ways.
#27 to #24 - anon (08/01/2014) [-]
If they are willing to protect you then they earned my respect.

Even if they are not in combat, they are helping those that are and that is more than you will ever do.

Why the downvote? The dude has a point. A modern army is made up, what, 10% warfighters? Less? The rest being the logistics chain needed to keep them supplied, give them up-to-date information, provide specialist support, feed them, house them, give them medical aid etc.
Sure, a warfighter is getting shot at more than the rest, but that's not to say the rest are doing a safe, risk-free activity.

I think it's kind of a pointless gesture. I get the sentiment but seriously, Eminem had no idea who that guy was outside of him being in the army. I get that he was just being nice but an actual thanks makes more sense then pretending anyone knows who that soldier is.
User avatar #37 to #36 - lmOldGreg (08/01/2014) [-]
If it made the dude happy for a second then it's not pointless.
