well the word for a tragedy in french is une tragédie, so yeah, you can do it in french too.
#17 to #2 - Rascal (08/13/2014) [-]
.....Tragedy in French is "tragedie" so your point doesnt stand.
User avatar #28 to #2 - bongoboon ONLINE (08/14/2014) [-]
Tragedy = tragédie in french so Trajeudi works

A lot of French people speak English, but will refuse to talk to you until you try speaking French first, however pathetic your attempts.
User avatar #5 to #3 - pokimone (08/13/2014) [-]
The issue is, they're all perfectly capable of speaking english, but refuse to, however, when you try to speak french, they'll just laugh and call you pathetic.
#34 to #5 - ocnamesaregone ONLINE (08/14/2014) [-]
Actually, that's not true at all.

It's just bad rep we've ended up having. No person in the right mind will learn english to a sufficent level to have a conversation to REFUSE TO SPEAK IT. If they didn't want to speak it, they wouldn't learn english at all.
#46 to #5 - bsn (08/14/2014) [-]
That's not true. I went to France for two weeks this year and every person I talked to was super friendly and all tried talking English, even though we weren't in a tourist heavy area.

Most french people don't speak english actually, I don't know where you got that from.
User avatar #7 to #6 - pokimone (08/13/2014) [-]
From being raised in Montpellier for the first 14 years of my life actually... Pretty much everyone spoke english as a second language.
User avatar #8 to #7 - dusters (08/13/2014) [-]
They have the level of a toddler though. I'm french and every job I get I end up being pretty much the only guy who can handle foreigners. Every foreign friend I have coming to visit struggle to find french people who can actually hold a conversation in english or understand them.

English might be mandatory in school but it basically doesn't go any further than Brian is in the kitchen.

Also, them mocking anyone attempting to talk french is wrong as **** . I don't how people are in Montpellier but if they're not like that in Paris they certainly can't be worse anywhere else.
User avatar #33 to #8 - strelokkk (08/14/2014) [-]
I totally agree with you. I'm French and throughout my scholarship, the English level has been beyond pathetic. I'm in superior studies, and even there the level is horrendous. I also play video games in international servers, and like 1 French out of 10 can actually make up correct sentences (and again, I'm kind). People think I'm some kind of genius because I can communicate with a stranger and watch movies in their original version (like it should be)
User avatar #9 to #8 - pokimone (08/13/2014) [-]
Where in france do you live? Maybe its just different in different areas. I never really left Montpellier except to visit Paris once before I moved to Germany, and I never spoke english while I was in Paris.
User avatar #10 to #9 - dusters (08/13/2014) [-]
I've lived in normandy, rouen and quite a few other cities there, lived in paris and am about to move to Nantes.

I usually have jobs with loads of foreign customers and they've always been really glad to be able to talk normally without having to mime stuff. The average french lad knows basic english but usually they don't put much effort into it unless their job makes it mandatory.

I'm willing to agree with most french stereotypes, but them pretending not to speak english is quite wrong. It's more that they don't like struggling with a language they don't know very well at all.

Thats the french word for thursday. However I got confused because it isn't pronounced "jedy" but more like "zhudi". I don't know exactly what letters are best to put together for the beginning of the correct pronunciation so if you care that much, just look up a video of someone saying the word.

Speaking of france, Wow the Tour de France is so problematic
[TW: ableism, racism, colonialism, bodies]
My mom literally can’t stop watching this sport. Seeing all those able-bodied people ride their bikes is highly tr*ggering to me for a number of reasons. It is extremely ableist since a there are a lot of people who can’t ride a bike at all and fostering a bike culture is highly repressive to them. Also the fact that this is happening in FRANCE is deeply problematic in itself. France is a racist country whose entire existence is dependent on anti-Muslim hate. Like that should NOT be celebrated AT ALL. so turn this horrible thing off and watch Disney movies instead.
