I still find it hard to believe Aang would pick a favorite child even if he was the last hope of there being more Airbenders, I guess it just seems toI un-characteristic.

Was I the only one suprised when Kya said that Aang was a negligent father ?
#31 to #1 - tasomo (09/29/2013) [-]
Lots of negligent parents use excuses for why they're "busy, not negligent"

Did you ignore your kids? Congrats, you're negligent. Why you did it doesn't change the fact that you did it.
#70 to #31 - John Cena (09/29/2013) [-]
I don't think you are listening. He did pay attention to all the kids. He just paidmore attention to the air-bending one. Not because he cared more about him, but because he had an entire culture to pass onto him. The other two did get attention. It just wasn't an equal amount as to what the third one got. You try paying attention to three kids perfectly equally. They felt neglected because they did not get an equal amount, not because they did not get any attention.
User avatar #6 to #1 - xdeathspawnx (09/29/2013) [-]
he wasn't negligent, they were just upset that he spent more time with tenzin than them. If he has spent equal time with all of them I doubt they would be upset.

Also, you can't really blame him seeing that he had t deal with creating republic city, duties as the avatar, and rebuilding his entire culture.
User avatar #20 to #1 - darkdragonswrath (09/29/2013) [-]
I thought about this during the first season. It was the reason why I thought Amon was Bumi.
#2 to #1 - John Cena (09/29/2013) [-]
He never had parents, only monks, and katara lost her mother young and her father left soon after. I doubt either of them had a great concept of what parenthood really was. Also he had to invest the entirety of his culture in tenzin , while running a large sprawling new city, and do avatar stuff. I would say less neglectful and maybe more busy.

Man, it's scenes like this that remind me how ******* amazing the last airbender was.

The legend of korra gets a lot of **** for not being as good as TLA, and in my opinion it is a bit of a downgrade. But it's still really good.

If any show was half as good as TLA, it would be a show worth watching.
#99 to #85 - biohazar (09/29/2013) [-]
i cant be more agree whit you , ALA was awesome men and Zuko is my fav. character ,
i really hope that in LK make an appear , and like his uncle has a related dragon name , like " fire tongue" , or "heat of the west" , kinda and helps korra tho find herself and teach her the real fire bending .
User avatar #24 - melontwilight (09/29/2013) [-]
Part of me kinda wants Katara to die during LoK, maybe during this season. Not because I hate her or anything, but I think it could be done very nicely. Especially with this season going into the spirit world, I think they could do a beautiful thing with Katara passing away of old age and maybe while Korra's in the spirit world she sees the reunion between her and Aang.
#171 to #24 - klauszen (09/30/2013) [-]
They can do "Governor Swann move". While Korra and Jinora are in the spirit world, Katara pops in there, meaning she died, but she´s happy and all right cuz she can visit her family, friends and Aang.
User avatar #25 to #24 - FunkMastaNickyNick (09/29/2013) [-]
It is likely to happen pretty soon, if the fortune teller from the original series was right. I agree though, this would be the perfect opportunity to do it.
User avatar #28 to #25 - TheMather ONLINE (09/29/2013) [-]
Yeah, no. She'll die shortly after her third great grandchild is born, and since its seems neither Bumi or Kya has any kids and I doubt Nickelodeon's going to be messing around with teen pregnancy, that'll beat least 8 years from now (in which case it'd be Jinora having triplets at the age of 18, which is still really unlikely).
User avatar #29 to #28 - FunkMastaNickyNick (09/29/2013) [-]
Ah, my mistake. It's been a while, so I thought she said she'd pass after her 4th grandchild was born. You are correct, good sir.
User avatar #78 to #28 - professorfj (09/29/2013) [-]
We're also missing the fact that the fortuneteller was not always right in her predictions, and so Katara could still die this season.
User avatar #111 to #78 - honkan (09/29/2013) [-]
Wasn't the point at the end that she *was* always right, just not for any proper reason? Like she said the lava wouldn't destroy the town, and it didn't.
User avatar #114 to #111 - professorfj (09/29/2013) [-]
she predicted the volcano would "not" erupt at all this year, not that they would be saved from the lava.
User avatar #115 to #114 - honkan (09/29/2013) [-]
My bad, been a while since I watched that episode. I seem to remember one of the villagers saying something to that length, causing Sokka to face palm.
User avatar #116 to #115 - professorfj (09/29/2013) [-]
it's alright. My main point was that it's entirely possible for Katara to die without seeing a third grandchild, which I would love to see how the creators would handle a main character death.
User avatar #118 to #116 - honkan (09/29/2013) [-]
Great grandchild*, but yeah, I agree. I really like Katara, but just getting something that emotional into the show would be awesome, if they can do it well.
User avatar #176 to #114 - hattaz ONLINE (10/22/2013) [-]
She said the town wouldn't be destroyed by the volcano that year.
User avatar #161 to #114 - TheMather ONLINE (09/29/2013) [-]
Ok, I'm drunk way off my ass right now, but...
What she predicted was that the town would not be destroyed by lava that year, which thanks to Sokka's deduction and the rest of team Avatar it wasn't, even though the volcano still erupted.

Her predictions never failed, even though the reasoning still didn't matter.
So like by modern standards Katara could still become brain-dead, but her plug wouldn't be pulled until her third great grandchild was born.

Cant find a decent one. But Bumi is realy a white guy, doest matter he is one shade darker then Tenzin. They botht are white guys The only one who isnt white is Kya
#63 to #61 - CHODYTHEBLAKGUY (09/29/2013) [-]
yeah i know but for some reason boomy keeps changing from white to dark skinned 2 or 3 times per episode
#48 to #37 - angelusprimus (09/29/2013) [-]
None of them are "white" white. Aang and Tenzin are just lighter skinned asian based on Tibetan people just like Dalai Lama (who is actually called Tenzin) is lighter skinned then Inuit who are basis for Water Tribe.
And he didn't necessarily love Tenzin more, but it must have been horrible relief for him to have an airbending child. if none of the children were airbenders that would have been it for the airbenders. And the avatar cycle would have been destroyed because no one to come when Air turn comes.
He spent so much time with Tenzin, not because he didn't love his other children, but because he was training the LAST AIRBENDER the only hope for his people to live again.

Every airbender will be a descendant of Aang and Tenzin, period.
#129 to #128 - rimjobmcgee (09/29/2013) [-]
Not necessarily Tenzin, though unlikely both Kya and Bumi could have air bending children. But one of every four avatars will be a descendant of Aang, to a slight extent making it something passed down the family line, which kinda interferes with the balance of it. It is supposed to be the most spiritual of the culture, but for air benders now its the most spiritual of a single family
#49 to #48 - CHODYTHEBLAKGUY (09/29/2013) [-]
no i completely understand that im just saying that as in that's how the other 2 children obviously felt was that he loved tenzin more than them even though that wasn't the case. and i know they aren't really white that's just the joke they are whiter skinned and yeah i don't really feel like explaining it all
#51 to #49 - angelusprimus (09/29/2013) [-]
Yeah, Aang didn't do stellar as a dad.
He also turned Tenzin into tense, overly serious man. By doing to him what he himself hated, constantly telling Tenzin how important he is and how he can't mess up.
#52 to #51 - CHODYTHEBLAKGUY (09/29/2013) [-]
yeah but even though he didn't mean to do so he had to realize the future of his people and the world as the avatar while still trying to be a dad. there was really no way he could have done it all and still been the best at both of them with all of what he had riding on his shoulders but he ended up raising a good family and setting the world into motion to be set back to being balanced once again just slight problems that needed to be fixed by his family and the future avatar that he couldn't do in his lifetime
#53 to #52 - angelusprimus (09/29/2013) [-]
I agree.
I am glad that they showed him to have done a good, but not perfect job. That makes him more human and more like Aang we knew, then perfect Avatar he seemed to be.
#54 to #53 - CHODYTHEBLAKGUY (09/29/2013) [-]
exactly. me and my cousin loved avatar and when we saw the new episode where they were all saying aang was not the greatest blah blah we thought about it and how they were portraying him and we went back and watched a lot of the last airbender to reintroduce ourselves to how aang was and then we saw the next episode of korra and it made more sense and we realized yeah aang was still the best but not perfect. he never wanted to be the avatar but he did his best korra always wanted to be the avatar and is having a tough time doing so with all these people trying to manipulate her but shes not realizing that she can ask her past lives for advice. she has more knowledge in the world than anyone else has and she doesn't even try to use it. yes shes bad with the spiritual aspect of the avatar self but if she kept training with tenzin then it wouldn't have been so rough

Korra Book 1 is OK

Korra Book 2 is having a slow start

The main difference between Aang and Korra is Aang had to deal with 112 years of Fire Nation Dominance and Fire Lord Ozai being an enormous cunt and Aang having to learn all 3 elements before Sozin's Comet reached the planet

Korra through sheer act of conveniance learned all three elements and Air bending by the end of season 1. That and there is no strong villain. Amon would have been perfect but his defeat was anti-climatic

Korra Season 2 focuses more on Korra's Family and Friends than Korra herself
User avatar #130 to #124 - retardedboss ONLINE (09/29/2013) [-]
The elements came naturally to her. The spiritual side of being the avatar is where she has need to grow. Aang was the opposite. He had a strong spiritual connection right from the start, but struggled to learn the other elements. No avatar is perfect and they all learn from their own personal growth how to be a better avatar.

I think a lot of the reason people seem to think LoK isn't as good as ALA is because it doesn't have the same characters we came to love.
User avatar #137 to #130 - murrlogic (09/29/2013) [-]
Bolin is the balance between Toph and Sokka

Right, the archetypes are certainly there, but I think a lot of people want to see more of the characters they got emotionally attached Regardless of how their personality, after so many seasons of a show, the characters make an impression.

I do also believe LoK is a little less good than LoA was, though I still believe it to be a worthy successor.

The only real problem I have with it is Korra's attitude toward everything. Like someone needs to kick her **** in so she can stop being so arrogant.
