User avatar #61 to #58 - zafara (09/28/2013) [-]
Ok, so I was not aware that people hated the prequel to the Thing as much as they hated That other movie that I will not mention because it was so bad. I just felt that it tied in the opening from the original really well.

Guess you've never hear of the ET sequel either.
User avatar #52 to #29 - vilememory (09/28/2013) [-]
Much like the Avatar movie... There was no prequel.
User avatar #54 to #52 - zafara (09/28/2013) [-]
A prequel is like this: They made the Lord of the Rings series, which involved a need to destroy the ring. Now, they are making The Hobbit, in which they find the ring in the first place. That is a prequel.

I don't think you said what you meant to say. That live action movie was not a prequel, it was the movie based on the show. I have no idea what you were trying to say.

User avatar #62 to #54 - vilememory (09/28/2013) [-]
I think you need to take a vacation to Lake Laogai as my reference has gone right over your head.
User avatar #67 to #62 - zafara (09/28/2013) [-]
Ignore the word sequel and make it prequel in the second to last sentence.
User avatar #65 to #62 - zafara (09/28/2013) [-]
No, what I'm saying is I get the reference. But the Avatar movie That doesn't exist was not a prequel. If it was, it would have been all about the fire nation's rise to power with little to no mention of the Avatar. Just the fire nation taking over, displaying the events that happened before the show took place. That would be what a sequel is. The movie that shall not be named was a mash up of everything that happened in the TV series.
User avatar #60 to #54 - fizzor (09/28/2013) [-]
I think he's implying the prequel movie "doesn't exist" denies it's existence because it's a bad movie, much like the Last Airbender movie.
User avatar #63 to #60 - zafara (09/28/2013) [-]
I understood that. I was just annoyed that he actively called TLA movie it a 'prequel.' That would have entailed the movie being about the rise of the fire nation, which would have been creative and wouldn't have entailed useless children who didn't know how to act. The prequel of The Thing actually ties in somewhat nicely with the original, so I didn't think people hated it that much.
User avatar #64 to #63 - fizzor (09/28/2013) [-]
He didn't. He was implying that the prequel movie is much like the Last Airbender movie, so bad it shouldn't exist. It had nothing to do with one of two aforementioned movies being a prequel.
User avatar #66 to #64 - zafara (09/28/2013) [-]
Then I guess it's just some sort of miscommunication. I knew that people hated TLA movie, and I do too, but I didn't know that people hated the other Thing movie as well.
User avatar #68 to #66 - fizzor (09/28/2013) [-]
I wouldn't know, I haven't seen the prequel movie. Nor the main movie to begin with.
User avatar #69 to #68 - zafara (09/28/2013) [-]
Yeah, the prequel involves a Norwegian science team finding a spaceship with the Thing in it, and their attempts to fight it. In the end, it takes over a dog and survivors follow it in a helicopter trying to shoot it, and they wind up in the American base. Americans shot down the helicopter and adopt the dog, and stuff happens. I think they go over and find the Norwegian base deserted and wonder what happened. So, basically, it ties in pretty nicely.

It's not a remake. It's a prequel. If you watch the movie from 2011 and afterwards the original one they perfectly blend over.

I think the horror is gone because it is all CGI now. It just doesn't have the same pop as the good old fashion latex monsters.

"Don't Hug Me, I'm Scared" is quite an interesting video. Apart from the obvious bizarre and shocking images there is also a lot of room for thinking. If you actually stop and think what they are trying to show, the video becomes even more interesting.

According to the authors, they started with the premise of wanting to make something creative out of crafting materials such as the felt, glitter and puppets. However, as they made the script they realized that teaching creativity is not as easy as it looks. Specially since, creativity is something children already have innately. They portrayed that teaching "how to be creative" is already limiting a kid's creativity. How many times have you heard stories about a kindergarden teacher limiting children's creativity? This idea is protrayed through some of the notepad's actions, who, throughout the video, is telling the other puppets what is and what is not creative (black ink of the clown drawing, green is not a creative color, "I use my hair to express myself", the walking orange, look at the clouds). A very notable moment is when the notepad says: "Here another idea of how to be a whiz-kid, arrage these branches to represent your favorite color" or in other words: "How to be a successful person? Well you gotta think like this."

Another point they wanted to make is that creativity is not necessarily a good thing. Quote from one of the authors: "Creativity is almost always associated with progress and healthy positive expression but in actual fact you can get creative with a hammer and a cowpat." This idea is portrayed through the subtle but bizarre ideas the puppets propose once in a while ("I can see a man with a baseball bat", "I see a ladder leaning on a log", the whole gore sequences).
#72 to #71 - icefall (09/28/2013) [-]
Interestingly enough some of the sequences on the video were not intended at first, such as the 3D caption. It was decided midway through the production to finish the video in 3D to show the whole uncomfortable feeling. However, it was later decided to go back to the felt and puppets. The meat, though, was harder to handle than expected so they used people in costumes to record those takes. This resulted in a even more creepy feeling and they filmed more shots using these costumes.
