Painting nails

Tags: tumblr | Junk
Today I let one ofthe girls at my internship paint my nails. A few girls
exclaimed, Ihat' s weird!” and one boy timidly asked, 'are you actually
letting her paint your nails?" I told them that boys are allowed to paint
their nails and asked them who told them they couldn' t? None ofthem
had an answer. And the boys came overtones nail painting
station and started doing their own nails. and each others nails, and one
boy even got really excited and asked if he could do my other hand and it
was just a really cool thing to see.
When the parents came to pick upthe kids, the boy who had
enthusiastically painted my nails, started scraping off his nail polish. I
asked him why he was doing that an he said that one time he wore his
sister' s nail polish and his dad gave him a 'whoopin"_ And then, in the
meekest voice I' very heard., he whispers, "but next time I come to [the
program], I think I' Imjust paint them again, anyways-. Ithink sometimes
parents can be wrong about I and whispered back,
l think you might be right] And helped mistake the rest outwith nail
polish remover-
And that was the coolest moment of my day.

contrary to popular belief, The hashtags aren't there just to be cancerous. They're tumblr's method of sharing images and helps other find them. Say if you wanted to look up posts about dogs, you search on tumblr 'dogs', and every post with dogs for a hashtag comes up.

His parents should definitely let him wear nail polish if he wants, just like how if he were a girl they should also let her do "manly" things like wear men's deodorant or gel her hair. I dunno why some people get so upset about little things like boys wearing nail polish or doing "girl" things.
#254 to #19 - anon (09/27/2013) [-]
No. No they shouldn't.

Because it's not normal and social abnormality doesn't typically pan out well if you like having friends.
User avatar #36 to #35 - lightningunicorn (09/27/2013) [-]
The point of making friends is spending time with people who share your interests. The boy in question would just hang out with other boys who like to wear nail polish, or maybe girls who do boy things. You don't have to be "normal" to have friends.
User avatar #37 to #36 - jrondeau **User deleted account** (09/27/2013) [-]
Sure, theoretically. But let's be real here: a straight boy who decides to wear nail polish has a bigger disadvantage socially than an identical boy who doesn't in typical society because it makes people think that they're weird, and not the quirky, fun kind of weird. You know it, I know it, and everyone else knows it. I'm not saying it's necessarily bad for boys to paint their nails, only that there are consequences.
User avatar #38 to #37 - lightningunicorn (09/27/2013) [-]
I know I wouldn't treat him any way other than how he'd like to be treated, you can speak for yourself. The negative way that people feel towards that boy can be changed, but we have to do it ourselves, one person at a time, until acceptance is what's normal.
User avatar #97 to #37 - ramenmonster (09/27/2013) [-]
If it makes him happy and doesn't hurt anyone then why does it matter. Let him do and enjoy the things he wants. Not being true to yourself or holding back your interests to appeal to "normal" or "popular kids" is just basing your life around getting shallow people to like you.
User avatar #180 to #97 - dummerbaztard (09/27/2013) [-]
Come on, now you're saying this, but if in real life you would see a guy walking around with his nails painted you would instantly wonder what's wrong with him.
Or if not you, many else would, thus it would be a bad reputation for that guy.
User avatar #268 to #180 - ramenmonster (09/28/2013) [-]
Well I tend to give no ***** about what people think about me. If people are going to judge him or a straight guy because he likes nail polish then that's their problem.
User avatar #54 to #37 - vatra (09/27/2013) [-]
Don't make general assumptions based off of your own beliefs. I don't see anything weird about this. I'm a straight male, but one of my brothers is gay, I don't feel any differently about him than I do my other brother, or my sisters for that matter. If that's what he is in to, that's fine, him wearing nail polish doesn't hurt me, why should I care?
User avatar #140 to #54 - jrondeau **User deleted account** (09/27/2013) [-]
>don't make general assumptions based on your own beliefs
>here's what I think about the subject and why it is therefore okay

I'm not saying it's a terrible thing for boys to do feminine things, only that IRL it almost never pans out well if you want people (or at least other dudes) to think you're straight. That's just the world we live in. You can talk about how wrong it is for people to judge boys for having effeminate behavior and you may be right, but at the end of the day it's not going to change the fact that they'll still be outcast for it.
User avatar #267 to #140 - vatra (09/28/2013) [-]
That's the thing, I've never seen boys outcast for it. Well, my dad disowned my brother for being gay, but my dad is a horrendous asshole.

One time in middle school I coloured my nails black with a marker and my friend did the same. One of the african american kids in the class said to me "your nails are black" and my friend replied "so is your skin."
I still see him as a good friend even though he got expelled and sells drugs.

I had my sister paint my nails. I did it so I can show everyone off then tell my sister that I showed it to all her friends. The embarrassed reactions she makes is priceless.
