Love dream theater they're great. This last album isn't their best though. False Awakening suite is a sick way to start it though. Illumination Theory has got to be one of their best epics behind A change in seasons. I liked their heavier albums persoanlly like train of thought. Showed the best technicality in that one.

To rank their Epics... (minus the one from Systematic Chaos whose name escapes me because I've not listened to it, and Illumination Theory):
1. A Change of Seasons
2. Six Degrees
3. Octavarium
4. A Mind Beside Itself (despite being in separate songs, it is so good though)

Will change with Illumination Theory and In the Presence of Enemies...

Also I think The glass Prison could be a honarable mention. Not really an epic but quite a long song. Also very good.

with that logic shouldn't In the Name of God, Ministry of Lost Souls (<3), and Nightmare to Remember get mentions, too?

I've heard some of it... I get to the first long quiet part and I just lose interest.

Same here dude, I was completely ******* hyped out of my mind from the first time the album was announced, and "The Enemy Inside" didn't help me to calm down about it (about to buy a seven string just to play the damn song), but "Along for the Ride" AKA "Beneath the Surface 2" kinda brought me down. I'm listening to it for the first time as I type this comment and me overall reaction is "meh". Maybe it'll grow on me (probably), I don't know.

Yeah. Beneath the Surface was great, but Along for the Ride is meh... The whole album is meh right now... Well, DT meh, which puts it above par of WD&DU but not as high as Awake. It will probably grow on me. I love their heavy songs, and the self-titled lacks just that (in numbers).

I'm telling you illumination theory was the song of the album, you have to hear it like when you're about to sleep with headphones to really appreciate it
