As a wiiU owner, there is still a pretty big chance that the wiiU will fail and be pulled off the market much sooner than planned, but Nintendo is still in a great place overall even if that happens. The 3DS is practically printing money and they don't even have a Pokemon out for it yet. Anyone who thinks that they are worse off now than they were in the N64 or gamecube days clearly has a foggy memory at best. They are really in a much more stable position than Sony financially.

Plus I'm sure once Smash and a new Zelda are out for WiiU the sales will pick up. That Zelda bundle has already helped a lot.

My only issue with Nintendo is that for years they have been relying on really old titles (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc) to stay relevant. Now that's not to say these titles are by any means bad, quite the opposite in fact. It's just that I would like to see some more innovation from them in terms of storytelling and game style. The constant reuse of only old characters is getting kind of stale.

Nintendo is in as I say "meh" status right now. Their stocks are going down, Wii U sales are down and even the original PSP is outselling it in units. Wii U is Nintendo's console failure at the moment. They still like to not like third-party support as much as other companies for some odd reason. But **** ***** , all that means nothing with the 2DS. The 2DS is a ******* marketing champ. $130 of cheap shenanigans for all the lil kiddies to play Pokemon X and Y on. It's just in the gamer's eyes they fail to represent. Or at least in most.
In other news Team Flare is the sexiest thing to happen to Pokemon.

I have a 3ds and a Wii U. The 3ds is awesome and has a good amount of games both from nintendo and 3rd party companies. The Wii U however has yet to release a game that is worth getting IMO. Wind Waker is my least favourite Zelda game and SSB is coming for 3ds also. The Wii U is the first console I've bought that I actually regret getting.

The only thing I'm upset about with Nintendo is Mario. I love Mario. He's like a best friend, even if he's a fictional video game hero.
It's like every new Mario game is the same. Nothing too new. Go through the levels, fight Bowser, save the princess. And every final boss recently has been a remake of the original fight in the first Mario Bros. Bowser's on a bridge, break the bridge, then he gets really big and breaks **** , that's all. It doesn't feel like they're trying anymore.
Though coming up with original and new ideas is really hard, but it's not THAT hard.
But still, that won't stop me from buying and playing any new Mario game that comes out. I'm still excited to get M&L Dream Team

Mario has always been simple. Nothing too complex. But new ideas, a new setting, and maybe a new villain or ultimate goal can be simplified so that it's just as enjoyable.

Not gonna lie to you, dream team isn't as groundbreaking of a Mario game as you would want it to be. It can get repetitive and seem very linear. It will baby the spaghetti out of you with tutorials at every corner. I'm not saying it's bad, it has its moments. It keeps it rpg style from its ancestors and is up to par with most silly rpgs.

I love pokemon. It's a great world. Pokemon are like best friends, even if they'll never exist. It's like every new game is the same. Nothing too new. Go through the world battling the rival, beat the bad organisation, and become the pokemon champion. And the new pokemon have recently been remakes of the previous generations. Catch all the available pokemon, evolve them, breed them then you get some pokemon diploma, that's all. It doesn't feel like they're trying anymore. Though coming up with original and new ideas is really hard, but it's not THAT hard.

Um... Nintendo's stock is getting crushed right now... so actually, yeah...

They're not "doomed," but they're going to need to get themselves out of tougher **** than Sony had to with the PS3's meh launch. Sony was at least doing fantastically right beforehand, Nintendo doesn't have the same blessing. But let's face it... Nintendo still knows what they're doing... Kinda... I think... Sorta... > Sony was at least doing fantastically right beforehand, Nintendo doesn't have the same blessing
Nintendo is coming off having the best selling console of the last gen, along with having the best selling handheld of last gen (the DS is also the second best selling console of all time, it maybe the best selling console of all time at this point, it wasn't that far behind the PS2), and the 3DS has been best selling console in the world week after week for at least the past year. If anything Nintendo is much better off than Sony was before they ****** up. Plus Nintendo hasn't really ****** up outside of the **** tier Wii U marketing.
User avatar #114 to #100 - mistafishy (09/26/2013) [-]
I'm talking stock-wise.

Sales-wise, the 3ds is making waves, but that doesn't always help the stock as much as you'd hope.

It's ideas that drive he market more than sales. At least, fundamentally.
User avatar #161 to #114 - kerfufflemachtwo (09/26/2013) [-]
Don't Sony's stocks also include Sony's other areas of business? It's movie division and all of the other electronic stuff it does?

Of course Sony's stocks would be better than Nintendo's. They're a much larger company.
User avatar #167 to #161 - mistafishy (09/26/2013) [-]
Exactly... they had a boom before the PS3 in part because of their other assets, but still, Playstation isn't just another brand of theirs, it's a HUGE staple in their company. If Playstations were no longer sold by Sony, it'd be like Microsoft only selling smartphones.
User avatar #169 to #167 - kerfufflemachtwo (09/26/2013) [-]
Eh, not really. Would they suffer? Yeah. But it wouldn't be that bad for them.

I'm just saying that because of Sony's, and even Microsoft's, other markets, you can't use stocks to compare them to Nintendo.
User avatar #173 to #169 - mistafishy (09/26/2013) [-]
Um... wait... you know all three of those companies are in extremely direct competition, right?

I just listed the three largest videogame console manufacturers on Earth.... and you said they're stocks don't compare to one another?

[Even Nintendo has other markets other than games...]
User avatar #177 to #173 - kerfufflemachtwo (09/26/2013) [-]
I'm saying that using their stocks, which represent the company as a whole in all of their ventures, is not a good way to compare how they are doing in one specific area.
User avatar #178 to #177 - mistafishy (09/26/2013) [-]
Originally this wasn't a comparison of who's got a better portfolio in terms of gaming... so you're right I guess.

So I don't see... your... point?
User avatar #136 to #114 - indecisivejew (09/26/2013) [-]
I know a lot about the vidya industry, but not much about finances, so I have to ask: Do stocks matter if you're making bank with sales of systems and games? I mean, what does it matter if people don't invest in them when they are sitting on all that Wii money in the bank, the 3DS is printing money, and they make money back on every wiiU when someone buys one with one game? I feel like sales would effect them more than stock.
User avatar #142 to #136 - mistafishy (09/26/2013) [-]
The idea is that stock is an evaluation of the company. If it is cheap, the company is either an infant, or sucks ass. If it's expensive, [Priceline is the most expensive company and the first ever to breach $1000 per share] the company is doing well and growing steadily. Sales DO affect this, however, investments are basically like saying "I want to own this company." The more people that desire ownership of something, the more valuable it can become. Because of this, the idea of having a gold-plated rocket ship, for example, is appealing to many [provided it is deemed viable] and therefore might coax people to buy the stock, which adds funds to the company, and increase its ability to grow and sensationalize.

Sales are a byproduct of desire. Sales are good and indicate growth, but the number of units sold isn't as helpful for Nintendo's 3DSs so much as the price. If they were selling those babies at $400 bucks each, then the 3DS would help them more. However, they counted on the WiiU to do that at around $500 bucks a unit, but its sales are horrid because it is an undesired, seldom sold, expensively produced, publicly shaming product. [As far as stocks go anyway.] Because of low sales, and therefore low desirability, the stock suffers, hurting the company as a whole.

Plus, let's face it, Nintendo poured a ******** of cash into this console... and it tanked so far... so that isn't very good for them... Lastly, that Wii money... it;s like... gone.. It's been payed out to employees, stockholders, executives, research funds, and all the expenses that are needed to actually run Nintendo.

Money never "sits," it takes money to move money, etc.

Xenoblade is a poorly acted, muddy, absolute mess of a JRPG. With you, sir, I would have to respectfully disagree. I do agree the voice acting was bad on some parts. But I'm not too sure what you're trying to say on the other parts. I thought it was wonderful, and I thought part of the charm was the random high leveled (but easily avoidable) monsters that you would keep in your mind throughout the entire game, and at the end, you would obliterate with immense satisfaction. But we can go ahead and agree to disagree. It's a smart move to sell it on ebay if you didn't like it though. Seriously, I didn't know that anyone would buy a game for so much.

User avatar #108 to #104 - cupotruth (09/26/2013) [-]
Out of the two of them they make one good game.

Colors had okay gameplay (because it got rid of the majority of the new **** ) but had ****** cutscenes and a slapdash story.

Generations had good classic sonic levels but he ones from newer game sucked (I mean **** they had a level from Sonic 06).

And basing your opinion on a game that hasn't come out yet doesn't have any credibility.
#116 to #108 - neostar (09/26/2013) [-]
Color's gameplay was great and who the **** cares about the story of a sonic game? They were pretty bad before and they stayed bad-decent now.

Generations had subpar classic sonic levels and damn good modern sonic. Who cares if they had a level from sonic 06, does that means it was just as **** as the game it was from? No, it was completely redone and had completely different gameplay.

Except I've played it. They've had demos at a number of conventions. I was lucky enough to play the demo at SDCC and it was just as good as the last 2 sonic games. Sure it isn't out yet, but demos are meant to show what the rest of the game will be like.
User avatar #122 to #116 - cupotruth (09/26/2013) [-]
I care about the story because they make you sit through it, and if I have to sit through terrible stuff just to have fun then I'm not having fun.

That's like saying I can have really good chocolate after eating **** .

And completely different gameplay?

It's a Sonic game dude, gameplay doesn't advance beyond go right and it was not redone and the classic sonic levels were better by that's what sonic was designed to do.

Finally Gameplay demos does not make a product. Yeah it could be an okay game but demos are like Ikea. You go in and it looks really nice when it's under the perfect lighting and had been positioned by professionals and didn't wobble. But then you get home and it had 3 missing pieces and falls apart.
#126 to #122 - neostar (09/26/2013) [-]
Wow if you seriously think Generations AND 06 were that simple and that similar, then you're a ******* idiot. Plus Sonic wasn't designed to do just the classic 2d side scrolling. Mario sure as hell wasn't designed to do one thing and neither was Sonic. He was designed to run fast, and no matter what sonic game you're playing, he's always running fast, either if its to the right, left, forward, backward, up, down, and everywhere.

I dunno if Nintendo will go 3rd party. But you know, they are in good shape. If they stopped profiting now and spent all they could at their current rate, they'd run out of money in the 2050s.

To say the Wii U will fail based on what's going on now is asinine. Compared to the Xbone and the PS4, the Wii U hits the low cost pricing once again at $100 cheaper than the PS4. Everyone thought the PS3 was a flop because it started out very badly (I mean...VERY BAD), and now it's doing pretty damn good.

Nintendo is not Sega, the comparison is very light. Nearly every console that Sega had sold less than 20 million units (except for the Genesis), Nintendo has had 2 consoles that did not make 20 million (Virtual Boy and Color TV Games). Sega was a poor console maker (I am a sega refugee), they also had a knack for biting their consumer base in the ass with peripherals that get abandoned quickly.

Piracy didn't kill the Dreamcast, you had to own a dreamcast to pirate on it. The system sold poorly enough that Piracy was not a factor. Sega did stupid **** , and killed the dreamcast before it was even released.

Let's be real here, Nintendo is dying. They have made awful decisions in the past 6 years. And now that the new next gen consoles are coming out, the Wii U is going to be outdated just like the Wii was.

I would be okay if Nintendo decided to stop making consoles and became a third party developer for Microsoft and Sony. Imagine a true Next Gen Zelda game is HD on a PS4 or Xbox One. Or, maybe one day, a true Zelda game on PC.
