I see the problem, they only took the scores of the mean black people and mean white people.

Why didn't they take statistics from some nice people?

Speaking as an anthropologist, your comment in this case is valid. The differing cultures surrounding each "races" upbringing led them to get the score that they got. These tests are designed in a way that you could know everything about the questions they ask, but if you've never taken a test like this, or been required to think about things in this particular way, you won't do well on this test.

tl:dr, standarized tests are worth their weight in ****.

I believe what he is trying to imply is that, "If you judge a fish on it's ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing its stupid." They should replace SATs with IQ tests.

If you're trying to get into tree-climbing college, it's great that you can swim and all, but you should probably be good at climbing a tree.

no, they shouldn't.

IQ tests are a good indicator of your ability to think logically in a geometric/mathematical viewpoint, but not much else. they aren't good indicators of overall intelligence; just a narrow spectrum.

They don't even measure retention. More often than not it just comes down to how good you are at gaming tests.

Their point is to measure what students retained from high school in total. Knowledge of the information itself imbues and implies intelligence.

if you have a high IQ then youre going to have a much better natural SAT score than someone with an average IQ, someone with an average IQ can study to get up to a high IQ score, its about 2/3rds intelligence 1/3rd retention

If youre not naturally smart then you'd want to take the ACT which is far more retention based than intelligence

That would be true but IQ =/= intelligence.
if the link doesn't work than search on youtube "Dnews IQ test" and click the first one it should give a decent explanation.

Obviously it doesn't measure intelligence, it's only like 90%+ correlated with economic success academic success good decision making and every other perceivable thing we would call the result of intelligence

There's always margin for error with people who are smart and just don't give a ****, as there are people who are generally slow but know how to retain information long enough to pass a test.

In my experience i've found that the SAT measures intelligence on a more logical level than anything. The math is ridiculously easy as is the english, however most of the questions are designed to trick you rather than being generally hard to answer. Basically if you have a decent brain and have can pick up on logic/trick questions the SAT will be easier than most tests you take. But what do I know, I only got a 1920, I don't even get to be part of the 2000 master race.

Im fairly certain that the American psychological association did a study in like 2006 that found an 85% correlation between SAT scores and IQ scores. Neither of them are absolute measures of intelligence but i'd say there's at least SOME connection.

Ether way it shows that black people should stop being so stupid. I think the best solution would just be so send them back to Africa, maybe then our education system will also be better ranked.

No tests truly measure intelligence, not even IQ.

SAT is mostly retention and opinion. (It is a waste of time, it's a shame any colleges use it)
The vocabulary is entirely whether you memorized a dictionary's worth of words no one every uses.
The reading is largely opinion (many questions don't have an absolute correct answer).
Math is just reviewing low level high school math (algebra, geometry, low level trig).
And the essay is entirely BS because the graders are just random assholes, so your grade is based more on them than you. There was actually a pretty big issue that cropped up with essay scores a few years back because of that.

The ACT is less subjective (no opinion based questions that I can remember), with a more scientific focus (higher level high school math, and some science questions). It's many times better than the SAT (less straight memorization and opinion), but it's still just a question of: Did you learn this in high school? Not actual intelligence.

So the SAT is supposed to test intelligence, how well you can do with the skills you have. The ACT is designed to measure retention. It has science questions on it and stuff like that.

I don't know about the modern SATs, but I took them in 2002 when they were on the old system. Then, they were about remembering the overview of classes you took in high school. It wasn't "remember that formula you learned" as much as knowing how to divide by fractions, or what a metaphor was. Stuff that if you actually paid attention during the prior four years, you could get with a little bit of studying.

not quit as bad as a 335 average lol
most institution don't actually pay any attention to the writing portion, except sometimes Ivy leagues.
I can't even remember what my SAT scores were now. But I really don't believe this statistic, because my combined score was well above said average, my math score was near the 750 range, and I still didn't get into Cal Tech.
