I can't tell if this is either making fun of feminists, or people that confuse feminists with misandrists.

No it's mocking those who mock feminism. Google "strawman argument". They use the term "straw feminists" to say that the kinds of feminists that the portray in this comic aren't real. They're saying that people that attack feminism are making up these stereotypes with no basis.

You guys know this isn't meant to be a parody of feminism right? It's making fun of people who make fun of feminism. It's a parody of the parodies of feminism. It's argument is that those kinds of feminists aren't real (thus why the term "straw feminists"). In reality, I've seen feminists that are close to that as realistically possible. I.e One feminist I know freaked out on facebook because someone said "Ben Affleck raped Daredevil" or another freaking out when one of my friends challenged her argument that women are STILL openly oppressed in society, and I mean she was freaking THE **** out to a point were the debate turned into all out insulting and slandering on her part as my friend tried to calm the situation down as he had to go to work. These "straw feminists" do exist. Youtube "mras and feminists arguing at u of t mra event" and see what it looks like to you.

Men may be more likely to commit suicide, but women are more likely to attempt suicide. This is because men go for more violent, yet effective methods (ex. gun), whereas women mostly try to O.D. on pills, which is extremely ineffective. Just thought it was worth mentioning. The fact that more men commit suicide does not mean that men are more prone to depression, suicidal thoughts, etc.
#219 to #217 - cabbagemayhem (09/21/2013) [-]
That's completely not the point of the pic. And, if I recall correctly, you copy-pasted that from Wikipedia.
#221 to #219 - myshipsailedwoutme (09/21/2013) [-]
I know that it isn't the point, but I was just commenting on a flaw in his argument. That's why I said "Just thought it was worth mentioning."
And no, I did not copy-paste from Wikipedia. I wrote it all by myself like a big kid
#227 to #221 - cabbagemayhem (09/21/2013) [-]
Fair enough, but the women may be more likely to attempt suicide to garner sympathy, making it a non-committed attempt. I'd be careful before making assumptions either way, but his argument isn't what's on trial here.
#231 to #227 - myshipsailedwoutme (09/21/2013) [-]
"May be" There's no reason to believe that. I've never heard any scientific evidence of this claim, but if you have I'd be interested in hearing about it.
Besides, if you are desperate enough to attempt suicide as a cry for help, then you have a serious psychological problem, no better than suicide. I can't remember what it's called, but I recently learned that there's an actual psychological disorder based around attention-seeking. Those people need help just as much as people with severe depression.
#242 to #231 - cabbagemayhem (09/21/2013) [-]
That's funny. Anyway, if you want to defend feminism just say so, instead of debating a moot point. There are plenty of other points to dispute.
#245 to #242 - myshipsailedwoutme (09/21/2013) [-]
By the way, if you're curious about my beliefs on gender-issues, I believe that men and women aren't as different as many believe they are. Both have about equal amounts of unique flaws and good qualities.
#247 to #245 - cabbagemayhem (09/21/2013) [-]
Well...I believe we aren't as different as our sexuality makes us think we are, yet we're not as alike as our drive for equality lends us to believe.
#254 to #247 - myshipsailedwoutme (09/21/2013) [-]
One interesting thing that I'd suggest reading up on is the different areas of academics that men/women succeed more in. Both groups seem to have equal strengths and weaknesses. I guess you could say we're different, but in an equal way. We balance each other out, and there are always exceptions to the rule.
#251 to #247 - myshipsailedwoutme (09/21/2013) [-]
Perhaps... it really varies among individuals, and that's why we can't generalize with either group. People should be judged based on their own abilities, not what group they were born in I just don't like it when people say "women have it so much worse than men" OR "men have it so much worse than women". Both groups want to be loved, to be respected, and to fulfill their responsibilities and both groups have problems that hinder them. For example, many women wear makeup and revealing clothes because they want to appear sexy and/or beautiful; many men work out and wear cologne because they want to appear sexy and/or handsome. These parallels can be drawn in most aspects of life.
#243 to #242 - myshipsailedwoutme (09/21/2013) [-]
No, I'm pointing out a flaw in an argument. Nothing more. Don't try to change the subject. I wasn't really even trying to argue with you. I just feel the need to correct something that is untrue or misrepresented. Not interested in a debate about feminism.
