So, I was watching first

introduced this guy
as a character.
arrt "
He calls himself Darwin because he
can 'adapt' to any situation he is in.
Here he is growing gills to survive
I thought to myself:
If you can adapt to the situation at
Then why are you a
black man in the 60' s?

"adapt to survive"

First one of them dead.
User avatar #5 to #3 - franklyimaperson (09/20/2013) [-]
I refuse to believe he didn't just adapt into being the ash, and is infact very much alive, just in billions of little pieces
User avatar #13 to #5 - dafuqmang (09/20/2013) [-]
In the comics he adapted to being immortal. (Pretty much, at least)
User avatar #14 to #13 - franklyimaperson (09/20/2013) [-]
Well he didn't 'adapt' to being immortal, it is just through his adaptation that he is effectively immortal

He is as strong as he needs to be, can breath in space if he must, but if even his body knows he probably couldn't take, it will mother ******* teleport him to somewhere where he is safe

This is also ignoring he becale ******* Hel for a while, but yeah, I am going with he is currently dandriff

I'm sorry I just really liked Darwin and still have a lot of feelings

I always thought it was hilarious that his mutant power was the ability to adapt and survive under any circumstances.

And he's the only X-Man who dies in the whole movie.
User avatar #4 - thefogwoggler (09/20/2013) [-]
i haven't seen first class so i don't know the specifics but wouldn't that essentially make him the most over powered superhero ever, like he could literally become a god.
User avatar #23 to #4 - TheLastNinja (09/20/2013) [-]
Dies from a man who obtains power from any source of energy available... i.e. consume a grenade's explosion, be able to put it out. I think he killed him similarly to this.
User avatar #24 to #23 - thefogwoggler (09/20/2013) [-]
but then shouldn't he be able to adapt to survive the explosion?
User avatar #25 to #24 - TheLastNinja (09/20/2013) [-]
I haven't seen it in awhile, but he was in a rock-skinned form to block shrapnel, bullets or something like that and he was stunned or held still and the man pushed an orb of pure energy into his mouth and directed it downward... Then he turned into ash and crumbled away... I think it's just his exterior (inb4 gills are adaption for lungs).

If I remember correctly, the bad guy force fed him an explosion. He was faced with a choice to absorb the explosion and die, or blow everybody up and survive. He chose the die option.
User avatar #113 to #83 - DJstar (09/21/2013) [-]
in the comics he adapts to the energy. he actually becomes a god at one point. because it was the only way to survive the god of death's touch.
User avatar #37 to #4 - tartwolfblack (09/20/2013) [-]
In Planet Hulk we becomes energy to survive (He adapts himself to become energy so he can live forever) So he is one of the most powerfull chrs.
User avatar #102 to #4 - lunchablespizza (09/21/2013) [-]
Well an extreme version of this power is Doomsday, the only supervillan that could pretty much fight 1v1 with superman. Besides like super strength, invulnerability, and stuff like that he as an adaption power that whenever he dies, he comes back to life, and is immune to what previously killed him
User avatar #6 to #4 - zenbass (09/20/2013) [-]
The adaptations go away when he no longer needs them.
#7 to #4 - lecommentingderp (09/20/2013) [-]
He dies minutes after that scene.

He is a black guy in a movie.

He gets killed by the bacon man.

The bacon man being Kevin Bacon.

Sebastian Shaw.
User avatar #17 to #7 - ompalomper (09/20/2013) [-]
yes but in the comic he is way more powerful, like survive everything powerful.

im not even kidding, in the comic he is toughed by a god of death and his powers turns him into a god because that's the only way to survive the touch
User avatar #19 to #17 - oikake (09/20/2013) [-]
what about the time he was fighting the Hulk and his powers realised that the hulk will get stronger and stronger too and just teleported his ass away!
User avatar #109 to #7 - hammarhead (09/21/2013) [-]
I ******* hate the fact that he dies.
User avatar #97 to #7 - hugsta (09/21/2013) [-]
In the comic series a similar thing happens, where he gets blown up by energy stuff.
Later on they find out that his body couldn't adapt fast enough to resist the energy, so it combined with it, and he was living inside the electrical circuitry of the school.
User avatar #112 to #97 - greenstrongworld (09/21/2013) [-]
And then the Wreck-it-Ralph universe comes into play.
#20 - finblob (09/20/2013) [-]
Why doesn't he just adapt to not die.
#119 to #20 - afreeti (09/21/2013) [-]
Been there, done that
User avatar #27 to #20 - diliges (09/20/2013) [-]
He specifically said he can adapt to any situation he is in to survive. He doesn't say anything about being able to do it on command or when nothing is happening. If you want to get in to it, the power is useless because he lacks the ability to do any damage, and it is very easy to get rid of him. In the movie he died because the villain shoved Cyclops Laser's down his throat, amplified by his own Kinetic/Nuclear power. As he said, his body adapted to survive in the situation, which in the only way to do so was to turn his body in to something that can literally not be hurt or damaged, which is nothing. TECHNICALLY, he is still alive, just floating around as a bubble of nothing.
User avatar #28 to #27 - finblob (09/20/2013) [-]

why not just not die
User avatar #30 to #28 - diliges (09/20/2013) [-]
His body adapts to survive, that should be enough to know why.

Since both are theories of descent with modification, either way you slice it involves treating him as his own father.

This is how he looked in the comic. Maybe what we saw in the movie WAS his body's adaptation to go unnoticed.

Yeah, and he died so quickly too.

I figured if his instinct was to survive, that he'd have a mechanism for when his body dies like that. Possibly something similar to what Professor X can do like telepathically sending his brain/memories/personality into another human host.

I guess that's a sweet power that's reserved for telepaths.
#40 - thatginger (09/20/2013) [-]
He is by far, the coolest X-man ever. i mean c'mon, he teleported once... maybe more, idk, but hes bad ass as **** . he only died in that movie cause the plot called for it. in all comic books, it never showed his powers being beaten.

the thing I hated most was at the end of the movie Xavier gets paralyzed
but in the second movie he is shown as an older guy and can still walk. I think they even show him become paralyzed as an old man..
User avatar #75 to #58 - noblexfenrir (09/20/2013) [-]
That's because first class is a standalone film and has absolutely nothing to do with the canon of the previous trilogy.
User avatar #99 to #75 - sorcha (09/21/2013) [-]
But it does kinda link in the previous trilogy seeing as both Ian McKellen and Patrick Stuart are in the next film also
User avatar #105 to #99 - noblexfenrir (09/21/2013) [-]
Oh I was unaware they were in the next film. Even so though, yeah that was just the reason the movie didn't match up. I think it's possible the director said it was canon with the first film only, but disregards 2 and 3, and origins.
User avatar #107 to #105 - sorcha (09/21/2013) [-]
Just read it's coming out 8 of july next year

Ian McKellen was on Alann Carr chatty man and said he thought he had retired I almost typed Gandalf there Magneto and was suprised to be asked back aswell as Patrick Steward to take back their parts along side the new actors I think he said the film had something to do with time travel it was late when I was watching it so wasn't paying full attention

Hitler desired to kill inter-racial children, particularly those born from liaisons between German women and French colonial troops. In Mien Kemp, he writes, "The mulatto children came about through rape or the white mother was a whore. In both cases, there is not the slightest moral duty regarding these offspring of a foreign race." And, these children, particularly those born in the Rhineland, suffered greatly. Over 400 were involuntarily sterilized and, in 1937 alone, nearly 400 Afrogerman children disappeared.

Well, if you think about it... Being black in the 60's meant that as long as you kept your head down and didn't bring attention to yourself, 90% of the population ignored you. I think he was doing just fine.
User avatar #110 - puremadmentalged (09/21/2013) [-]
Everyone should have known that he was gonna die first.

I mean come on, he was the black guy

He might as well have been Sean Bean
User avatar #108 - thesinful (09/21/2013) [-]
If memory serves, in the comics he was a heavy drinker and smoker. Neither of which affected him due to his superpower. Idk, being able to drink a case of whiskey and not getting even slightly buzzed seems like a rather ****** power.
User avatar #96 - esmebuffay (09/21/2013) [-]
Actually, through the issues he started to get paler and paler and the writers said it was because he was spending so much time with white people so he was turning white to adapt to his surroundings.
