Where're you from? I'm curious as to how that whole censorship thing is actually going. Australia recently elected a new prime minister and he plans to censor us as well. Like hell we'll let him get away with that, though.

england.

its sort of like this.

its kinda of hard to argue against blocking a site when its only use is to steal things.

i mean, if someone wanted to cut off facebook, or ban porn, sure, riots all day erry day, but Pirate bay is soly for pirating things.

protesting that is like complaining to the cops for shutting down the black market.

there are dozens of torrent sites, finding what you want is never particularly hard, also pirate bay has doezens of proxies.

What, Cameron actually blocked Pirate Bay! Hahaha. Mad. Thing is, 'pirating' is legal. We just abuse the system >
User avatar #6 to #4 - iamnuff ONLINE (09/19/2013) [-]
yeah, what quoterox said,

its copyright infringement at best, and outright digital theft at worst.

I really don't see how the government enforcing the law is "Mad"

annoying, sometimes, but not mad.

Mad as in crazy, bit torrenting is not illegal but the fact that we abuse it to get movies and things is illegal. Quoterox.

bit torranting? no.

digital piracy?

yes. yes that is quite illegal.

guess what PIRATEbay's intended purpose is?

There is really no need to be quite such an asshole. Smoking weed is illegal, Hookahs are legal because people use them to smoke other legal herbs. Guess what the Hookahs intended purpose is?

meh, less like a hookah and more like a crack-pipe.

nobody uses Pirate bay to download anything that isn't copyrighted.

seriously, name one thing that you can get from pirate-bay that's not illegal to download.

if its not copyrighted, then you can get it somewhere else, without having to worry about torrents.

its called piratebay for a reason.

Inkscape. There's one. Crap tonne of music on there is free to download anyway. Internet based television shows. Sets of brushes or fonts for Adobe products. I could go on.
User avatar #14 to #13 - iamnuff ONLINE (09/21/2013) [-]
if its free, you can get it from the source website, never having to use torrents.
User avatar #15 to #14 - thirdjess ONLINE (09/21/2013) [-]
The point of bit torrenting is that it's three or four times faster than a regular download because you're downloading from multiple sources at once. For example my illegal copy of Photoshop took about.. 20 minutes? to download? My legal copy of photoshop took 24 hours.
User avatar #16 to #15 - iamnuff ONLINE (09/21/2013) [-]
how the **** does photoshop take a day to download?

if anything, terrents take much longer, because nobody ******* seeds.

regardless, if the cops found a shop that sells crack and diet coke, they still have to close it down, even if diet coke isn't illegal.

you understand what I'm getting at here?

its probably going to annoy all the crackheads, but it is the law, you really can't oppose a legal action like that.

just find another dealer, right?

well, actually, its like finding that shop in international waters, so they don't have the right to shut it down, they just (somehow) prohibit people from their country from visiting it, right?

wow, I took that metaphor about as far as it could go, didn't I?

You need to pick the right torrents, also. The only times I've ever had trouble with torrents is stuff like the entire Big Bang series that are exceedingly rare. Also: I'm not talking about Big Bang Theory, different show.

I used an international waters metaphor earlier today explaining why America has no claim to the moon.

Merriam-Webster would like to have a word with you, thirdjess.

"Piracy. The act of illegally copying someone's product or invention without permission."
