I'm dominican so I feel as if I have to say something informative or interesting but I've got nothing.
Hatians are pretty much our slaves when the cross the border due to the hard work and low pay. They're like our version of Mexicans.

Oh so you guys also hate them too huh?

Nope, we are the result of the Spanish raping Indian women. We are Bastards by definition.

Not only you. Most of Latin America. I'm a Mexican, natives were also raped and burned and tortured and deculturized and many many things
#54 to #35 - emastergxxx (09/17/2013) [-]
Nah... Dominican Republic is a mix. First there were Natives from the island, then Spanish, then French and then African slaves. So slaves were actually a minority. I'm Dominican btw.
User avatar #86 to #54 - yojo ONLINE (09/17/2013) [-]
But weren't we enslaved by the French anyways?

I really hope you people don't believe this. Present Haiti is the direct result of the United States. We took all of the trees from their side of the island because they had value. Without trees, any good soil eroded away. All they are left with is sand and infertile soil. JFK was going to help...but I'm sure you know what happened there. But, hey, at least they get to be free, right?

so.. trees on the other side are just useless? they have no value?
User avatar #90 to #28 - coma (09/17/2013) [-]
As I'm sure you can see, the other side of the island is NOT Haiti. We were only "helping" Haiti.

The reason of the deforestation: A dictator (wich I d'ont remember the name) was scared about what happened in cuba. The guerilla won by hidding in the forest. So he decided to cut all the forest to keep the power (sowwy for the engrish quebecfag here)

I'm a Quebecfag too! Thank you anonymous for not making us look like a certain female hygiene product and the bag it comes in.

What's the deal with nationalists trying to spread faulty misinformation and lies.

go back to north korea, scum
User avatar #69 to #68 - kyuubey (09/17/2013) [-]
North Korea is a good example of nationalists isolating themselves from reason and logic.
User avatar #71 to #69 - niggernazi (09/17/2013) [-]
and thats why you are wrong, a good example of nationalists are germany in the 30's.
A rich and powerful country and the only reason they lost ww2 was because of usa and russia fighted against them, so they where outnumbered.
User avatar #75 to #71 - kyuubey (09/17/2013) [-]
No true scotsman fallacy. The definition of nationalism is based on devotion and loyalty to one's country or the policy or doctrine of asserting the interests of one's own nation viewed as separate from the interests of other nations or the common interests of all nations. North Korea is a perfect example of this.

Nationalism is totalitarian by nature. And the economic reforms during Germany at that time where purely cosmetic, they only got powerfull through plundering resources of other nations and getting unemployed bums into the millitary. Honestly it wasn't nationalism or nazism that helped the economy, it was through war economy which always does great for the economy regardless of ideology.

Haiti used to have 40% of the world coffee production and over half the world's sugar production.

Now its Haiti.

Also they once took over the Dominican side of the island but they got kicked out.

It's incredible how gullible you people are, look at the border on google maps.
I lived in the dominican replublic myself for a year, and the only place that was truly up to standards was a huge private community called "Casa de campo"
