Substance addiction is a powerful thing and most people who are addicted do things they would never do otherwise. The idea is get her fit to return to normal society and then if she ***** up again then you punish her

You'd be surprised the things people do. They will use anything and everything available to them, even their own family, and they will do it in whatever way they think will get them to their next fix.

No they're being controlled by an addiction. That's why you give them one more chance. If they fall back into it or if they continue with the illegal acts then you punish them. You have to understand how strong substance addiction is and how easy it is to fall into it.

Are you ignoring everything that I've said? Really, substance addiction is one of the most powerful things that could possibly happen to a person. They will do anything to get their fix. It has nearly nothing to do with the moral content of the person.

People completely lose themselves in addiction. They do not rationalize anything whatsoever. They do not value their own lives or anyone else's. Family or otherwise. They are merely absorbed in the addiction and hunting for the next fix. Some people sell themselves. Some people, such as this person, think of selling others first. And don't say that people should kill themselves. You are scum for even thinking that. No one should be in that dark of a place. People deserve a second chance. If it really is just they're way of living to always be addicted to something and be doing whatever it takes to get high again then you punish them, but you have to know for sure before doing that.

They are not in control of their minds. Normal function is regulated by naturally occurring chemicals in the brain. When an outside substance disturbs this order people stop functioning normally. Her brother (or sister, too lazy to check) is fine, granted the sibling could have been hurt killed or sold into sexual trade. But she was not in her right mind. Put her back into it and see if she can keep from doing it again. Society now is about reform. Not like it used to be, throw people into prisons and asylums and forget about them.

i dont care, theyre worthless when they do this, theyre already worth less than normal people for putting themselves in this situation, then if they **** over other people they are worth less than nothing and should be put down for the selfish asshat retards they are, i dont care if they arent in their right mind, you still get arrested if you drive drunk, or on drugs

The whole point of arresting is to teach someone to fix it, same with rehab. People can start with a simple mistake or be peer pressured into addictions. A lot of things, such as oxycotin can only take once to get addicted. Seriously, if you made a mistake like doing meth This is hypothetical don't respond with HURR DURR I'D NEVER DO THAT and got sucked into that lifestyle would you want to just be put to death immediately? No, you would want to get reformed and get another chance in society.

Hitler did not have a single good reason to kill six million people. You want to talk about family? Every single one of those people had family. Hell some of them had to watch their family whither away under the Nazi regime or watch them get sent off to be gassed while they are then sent to a short life of servitude that will only lead to death. No one was harmed in this story. So OP grew up a little scarred from his drug addict sister, he obviously lived a full life and got to see that not everyone in the world is corrupt. She went to rehab and it obviously never happened again. Problem solved. It took years of death and destruction to stop hitler and then he didn't even face rightful conviction. He took his own and his family's lives with cyanide and bullets

You can not be serious right now. He climbed to political ladder til he was the right hand and then basically backstabbed his friend to gain power then he decided "You know what I want to control everything" he wiped out anyone who either couldn't help him or didn't fit his "perfect race". No matter what logic you try to throw at this he was one of history's most disgusting human beings. No matter what his reason for doing it he was the cause for the death of millions of people. You can say history is written by the victor but there was no tampering with numbers here, no inaccuracies to their methods. There were eyewitness accounts via diaries, journals and the word of survivors. You cannot dispute that. And really, you're just a ******* idiot for compaing Hitler to a drug addict.

I hate moral relativists. Basically what you're saying is that Hitler was an ok guy. THAT is ****** up.

You're missing the point, what he's basically saying is, since we, the majority, think Hitler is evil yet Hitler thought himself good, along with many others, how do we know which is good or evil.

Yeah because Hitler and Stalin were just people with "different" morals.

It's true. They both were people who believed that they were the good guys and that what they were doing was the right thing to do. Good and evil are subjective. Different actions are seen as good or bad by different people, it only depends on who it is that witnesses it.

Except they murdered millions of people simply for being different, I don't care about their point of view, or whether they thought they were doing a good thing. The fact of the matter is they were disillusioned in their thought. There is good and bad, and then there are people afraid to label good and bad. By your way of thinking there should be no laws or punishment either.

What is good or bad varies from society to society. What may be considered murder in one society may be thought of as honorable in another.

I'm not saying that Hitler and Stalin were not horrible people. There isn't really an excuse for what they did. But your comment, as mrtwilightsparkle says, makes you sound like you have no respect for anyone different from you.

Well there are bad people, such as those who understand their morals yet intentionally go against them.

But those people only usually do that to counter something else which goes more against their morals.

For example you are in a situation where you have to kill 1 random person to save 9 other people. If you didn't kill that one person then those 9 people and the one you were to kill get killed by someone else.

Obviously bringing death into it is childish but it is easiest to think of like this, a person will only go against their morals if doing so will make it so that they can endorse their other morals in a way that is overall beneficial, like scam the little guys so you can give troops better weapons.

The fact that you posted that here of all places made me think that you were being satirical, but apparently you aren't, which saddens me a little. Time for opinion sharing!

Cultural and societal standards and views are powerful, but I think there is one standard that every person of any culture can be held to: sympathy. It is a biological response to share the pain of someone who you witness being hurt. It's natural to consider others' feelings. On a psychological level, it relates to how people learn - the ability to sympathize and the natural response of mirror neurons to activate when viewing pain is part of the reason why humans have the capacity to learn from observation. Now, this isn't true 100% of the time, because peoples' brains don't work as they should 100% of the time - there is such a thing as warped perceptions and psychological disorders. But in general it seems like a good standard to put people

For example, take the sister. Let's first say she's a functional human being with a functional human brain. She would, under those circumstances, feel sympathy and guilt for the brother that she is trying to sell into human trafficking. Regardless of her point of view or culturally embedded morals or values, she would feel that sympathy, and the act of ignoring it, selling her brother into slavery for drugs and whatnot, is very self-absorbed and "bad." Does that make sense? I'm not usually very good at explaining things. In short, sympathy = good, apathy = bad.

Now, on the other hand, those who are literally unable to feel sympathy - psychopaths and whatnot - have a serious mental dysfunction. Are they evil if they could never help their actions? I would say no, they aren't. But they also aren't people. More like problems that should be dealt with swiftly, because human beings are not supposed to work like that.

But anyways. That's my opinion.

I respectfully disagree.

Good implies altruism, respect for life, and a concern for the dignity of sentient beings.

Evil implies harming, oppressing, subjugating, or otherwise limiting others.

People then have a tendency to fall into the middle ground by doing some of both but I don't want to hear silliness like, "Josef Mengele is just a research scientist with some different morals than the rest of us. He isn't evil, he's just different."

everyone is the hero of their own story, i doubt mengele did that **** cause he was evil, he probably tried to help the nazis who he thought was right and was willing to become a monster for them

Not particularly 'hero' as much as 'main character'.

Also, before we get into the subject of Mengele I do suggest you read more about him before continuing as you probably do not know much about him considering your response. If he was truly doing this purely just because the Nazi's were forcing him to or that he wanted to help out the Nazi's he would've stopped after WWII instead of continuing in South America and he would not have done quite a bit of the things he did.

Continuing on, as long as definitions are accepted then my point still stands. By breaks the fundamental points of good, then one becomes evil or at least selfish-neutral.

Fact of the matter is, selling drugs is great money, and people need money nowadays, so of course if you have a nice person who truly needs money to support for example his kid, i think he'll go through the lengths of selling drugs to keep things intact

well actually the dealers are like your everyday nobody's who sell just to make a bit of cash. The kingpins/drug lords are really bad because they have to be intimidating so that no one ***** with them and their business, so they kill people very often
