Yeah, remember that time Japan bombed Pearl Harbor because they wanted to drag America into the war? Guess that was just a misunderstanding huh?

Sometimes people are just dicks.

Actually Japan attacked USA because they didn't want them to enter the war. There were tensions between Japan and USA long before WW2 becasue they were both trying to spread their influence in East Asia, Japan being more aggresive and succesful than USA. Japan invaded North and East China, and later French Indochina because USA and British were supporting Chinese army trough french colonies. There were also attrocities commited by Japan on occupied territories suchy as "Rape of Nanking" when the Japanese killed around 200 000 Chinese people after the end of siege of Nanking. Because of that and becaue of fear of loosing sphere of influence in East Asia, the USA stopped all shipping of arms and industrial resources to Japan which increased anti-western sentiments throughout Japan. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because they wanted to weaken American naval strenght so they could loose their only rival in the Pacific. They did that because they didn't want prolonged war with USA and they knew they would loose war of attrition. Bad luck for Japanese was that most of American aircraft carriers were not at Pearl harbor at the time of attack because they had practice on the open seas. The attack failed even though the Japanese did a lot of damage to American fleet and because USA had far more resources they won the war 4 years later. I like history.

They were still kinda dicks though.

Love how terribly that plan backfired on them.

Well, it's also thanks to them not choosing to send the third wave.

I was trying to find a better example, but I had a bit of a brain fart. Though one good one would be the Pope starting the Crusades. The people joining were mislead, but he just wanted power and money.
