I'm pretty sure it's free now.
No more goblin massacre outside the gates.

It's free if you complete the quest to make it free. Something in Peril I believe it was.

no. As in there no more gate; you simply walk in Al Kharid now.

what game is that in the picture? It looks a bit entertaining...

It was years and years ago when it didn't try to emulate WoW and basically kill itself.

Damn American investors bought it from the creator and made it crap because they wanted money.

The sad thing is that they would have made more if the left it alone instead of changing it. Alot less people play it now than they did before. Right now is says 48k people are online, I remember when I would log in and there would never be under 100k.

Wow, I hadn't realized it was that bad.
Though the first bot sweep did drop concurrent users to about 90k at low times (since so many had been bots), so it's not ALL thanks to bad decisions.

True, but a giant portion of it is their own fault. I was someone that fought every single day defending that runescape was a good game, and it was. I would say that they should have stopped right after dungeoneering was implemented. Everything after that was just bringing the game down.

nah man, the first wildy death was what killed it for most people. Pkers left, looters left, traders left. It was their biggest mistake imo, and it just continued in a landslide.

Sure, but that only ruined the game for PKers, there was still a huge community who didn't play for PKing (I don't recall pre-wildy-removal numbers, but it was regularly around 200k before the investors showed up in 2011).

For the game itself, even after removing pking, it was still one of the best games for question that I've played (many quests, all with unique plots, which aren't just fetch quests).

Ah, good ol' Durial321. Fally would never feel the same after that amazing glitch.

Runescape. That's just a cut-out of the map though, and quite some time ago at that.
It actually is entertaining if you pay attention to the lore and jokes. If you play it for the gameplay it's kind of like putting your hand through a meatgrinder.
User avatar #41 to #15 - ronsha (09/10/2013) [-]
Not to mention its rather grind heavy. as in heavier than the majority of obese people in america put together
User avatar #43 to #41 - TheMather ONLINE (09/10/2013) [-]
Hence why it's no good for just the gameplay.
More than worth it for the lore though, as that's near the level of Elder Scrolls and Fallout.
User avatar #45 to #43 - ronsha (09/10/2013) [-]
Yeah, the lore is rather good in it, even if the characters are kind of cheesy. But the gameplay just...kills the lore for me
User avatar #47 to #45 - TheMather ONLINE (09/10/2013) [-]
The cheesy characters is just because of the British humor. Though when you get deep into the questlines, the important characters become more and more genre savvy. Like Azzanadra's just plain awesome.

you're right about that. the lore is definitely my most enjoyable part when playing rs. quests were my favorite part of the game. it just looked like the progression of a story was so well written.

then again tho, i went through the elf quests back in like 2006-07. im still waiting on finishing that yet still ._.
