Whats a bad thing is you complaining.

Macbooks have been shipping out with i7's for years. The Macbook I'm typing this from now is running on an i7.

Your friend is obviously not interested in PC gaming if he bought a Macbook Air. Have you ever held/used a Macbook Air? They're extremely portable which is the only reason to own a laptop over a full on desktop.
I kept my Macbook Pro so I can do college work away from home. When I'm finished being where I need to be and doing what I need to do, I come back for desktop gaming. I'd like to see you not only carry over, but hook up my tower/keyboard/monitor in the classroom every day.

He was just saying he was able to play Battlefield 3 on a Mac in response to the Windows laptop's question in the post, not that Macs were the master gaming race.

Macs have the ability to run many compatible games at decent settings contrary to popular belief that the most powerful game they can run is Farmville while simultaneously leeching onto your wallet. However, Macs were never built to be gaming computers as you said (except for the early Apple computers way back when), so you're not going to buy a Mac just to play Skyrim and Crysis 3 (with Bootcamp or Wine) at the same time on max settings unless you just want to watch your computer overheat and melt.

- Zotac GTX 770 Amp! (gtx 770 is a good choice in Nvidia or 7970ghz amd's)
- a 256 ssd + another one from old comp ( i have external one for movies ect)
- A good power supply is very important though: I have a seasonic G650 (a good 500w would be fair enough though)
- need some great fans though: I bough Nh-L12 for the intel. Since no OC, no need OP huges fans. And the fans included ine bitfenix for extraction plus another "pull in" in front.

User avatar #108 to #107 - zapgod (09/10/2013) [-]
sure it is, but thats also why PCs are so spectacle to viruses because they are so versatile. they will run almost anything whether its sick or not, win8 dont care win8 do wat it waunts!
#109 to #108 - hodhandr (09/10/2013) [-]
With a little common sense and some bonus computer knowledge you can avoid viruses pretty much. Another reason Windows is targeted more is that there are more of them. I like to think of it as having a sniper that shoots viruses:
if you want it spread you aim for the biggest crowd.
User avatar #110 to #109 - zapgod (09/10/2013) [-]
this is a common misconception, viruses don't effect macs vary well because of their coding and their language with their components. PCs have a much looser language than Macs do which is why they can get sick. viruses aren't actually made for either a PC or a mac they are just bits and pieces of foreign code that latch on and pretend to be part of the system when its not. but macs have a way of differentiating foreign code from its own. where PCs cannot. but your right about the fact with a little common knowledge viruses can be avoided. unfortunately a lot of people dont have that.
#111 to #110 - hodhandr (09/10/2013) [-]
You are referring to the fact that macs and dem I-things have a somewhat more closed code and hardware, yes? I am aware of this, and that it is, unfortunately, what makes them bad at running certain things and Windows more prone to malware.

You give some you take some I guess.
User avatar #115 to #111 - zapgod (09/10/2013) [-]
not bad at running things just the outright refusal too. however ironically Windows runs better on a Mac. look it up if you don't believe me, as long as the bridge is Parallels 8 then windows runs better on a Mac than a PC. blew my mind when i first found out. and even more so when i tried it for myself.
User avatar #180 to #115 - kiratheunholy ONLINE (09/10/2013) [-]
Of course it will, however if you took the same money you would've spent on that MAC and bought a PC with ALL of the money then it'd run better on that PC. It's just because MACs use SOME high-quality parts (which are still overpriced by apple)
User avatar #237 to #180 - zapgod (09/11/2013) [-]

User avatar #240 to #237 - kiratheunholy ONLINE (09/11/2013) [-]
The fact you're getting ripped off? Yes that's the negative thing I have to say about macs. I think that price is quite important when you get down to it though considering you're spending around 3,000$ for parts that aren't even at half that price. That is unless you're okay spending twice as much on something that only works half as good as it's supposed I hate how apple tries to make their computers seem better when they're not, they take advantage of consumer stupidity to sell products at ridiculously high prices.

User avatar #247 to #246 - zapgod (09/11/2013) [-]
once again this is a common misconception, i will agree that the current laptops are practically non upgradable, but before 2011 they were a bit, and if you have a little electronics experience like i do then upgrading a mac is easy. ive replaced my Ram, my hard drive a faster processor and my super drive for a blue ray super drive.

User avatar #208 to #207 - Leopard (09/10/2013) [-]
I have a PC, i got this from my computer science teacher. I'm just transferring knowledge. Macs also never glitch up, freeze, shut down unexpectedly, etc.. it's the little things that PC lovers have gotten used to and no longer care about.

Unless you're better then a computer science teacher unlike some 17 year old gamer who just wants to play his shooter online, then gtfo.
User avatar #209 to #208 - warioteam (09/10/2013) [-]
Actually, they do all of that.
Given, they do it considerably less than older Windows OS's, they definitely still do it.
User avatar #210 to #209 - Leopard (09/10/2013) [-]
Yea, you sure sound like the dude who's owned both a PC and a mac for 5-6 years each so you can accurately determine the difference.
User avatar #211 to #210 - warioteam (09/10/2013) [-]
Actually, my good sir, I have.
thirteen years windows and a mac for six.
I know that these aren't test computers or whatever you are referring to,
And I can tell you, macs DO INFACT CRASH AND GET VIRUSES.
Like I said, a lot less than windows, but they sure as hell do.
#212 to #211 - Leopard (09/10/2013) [-]
Maybe take care of your computers.
User avatar #213 to #212 - warioteam (09/10/2013) [-]
>Implying you can go more than four years without a single crash or virus
I honestly don't know what kind of super computers you and your teacher use, but literally EVERY COMPUTER WE AS HUMANS KNOW CAN CRASH OR GET SOME TYPE OF DATA CORRUPTING VIRUS.

This counts for modern desktop computers to gameboys.

I worked in a computer hardware store for roughly three years and i got calls for macs that had viruses. Now personally, I dont have anything against macs.

They do their job effectively, but because of the price, they dont do it efficiently.
User avatar #214 to #213 - Leopard (09/10/2013) [-]
I know people who have... on a mac.

Like I said, take care of your computers.
#215 to #214 - warioteam (09/10/2013) [-]
*sigh* I guess i should have worded that better.
Anyone who doesnt visit facebook and youtube exclusively will likely get viruses.

Not every-body else.
You know, it's usually teenagers that just browse facebook that use have a mac. It isn't really for them (except for a symbol of standard or some **** because apple is overpriced as **** ).
Our teachers have been given a bunch of apple laptops. They soon figured out that a lot of the programs we use in school aren't compatible.

I suppose some use it for programming (Preference I suppose, still expensive as **** . Like that guy from defcon 18, he likes it because of the coding). Some use it for editing, even though other pc's (That's why mac never really was classified as a PC because it hasn't really been a "personal computer", I believe). can do pretty much the same.

So, it's for people that like the coding and editing stuff. Can't think of anything else.
User avatar #42 - johnnyiscool (09/10/2013) [-]
If you go through the arduous process of installing windows via Bootcamp and getting everything right you can in theory. Unless you're me and you buy BF3 and can't play it because the graphics card drivers got ****** up and there's no way to fix it. So, no, it can't do it. **** , I hate Apple.

>19 fps

Dude that sucks balls. No Macbook pro can game on Ultra with any sort of decent fps. I have the misfortune to have to use a Macbook to game, which honestly isnt that bad and could be worse, and the best I can get is the lowest settings (High) on Crysis, and even then I have lag sometimes. Skyrim runs well on high, and would compare Skyrim and BF3 In terms of graphics. And I have the latest model, so I know there is no better.

Because for the money you spent on that you could've got a gaming PC that runs it at 100 FPS instead of that 19 you got in the top left.

I do. Because some people don't have the money to pay for both a game and an online pass because apparently selling used games without warning you the "dlc and passes" that came with it were already used is ok.
