i think it would be rude to not use a microphone... why treat them differently, its all part of the experience
User avatar #80 to #5 - roguevocoderblitz (09/09/2013) [-]
Ya i see what you mean, i see, we should give all the poor deaf people top of the line i pods with chromolly back plates, and state of the art hearing tests. they deserve every.. bit..
#98 to #5 - gmkpmsj (09/09/2013) [-]
To be fair though, in a small classroom you wouldn't need a microphone either way
#15 - chikkachikkayaa (09/09/2013) [-]
I read this as "I once used a microwave to read a story I wrote to deaf kids" and spent 5 minutes looking for a microwave in the picture...
I even read some of the comments as microwave too...

Being hearing impaired doesn't necessarily mean you are deaf, maybe some of the kids could hear if his words were amplified through speakers, or maybe the microphone transmitting directly to headphones the kids are wearing.
#6 to #4 - anon (09/08/2013) [-]
The content stating they were deaf has nothing to do with it, then?
User avatar #8 to #6 - phinkles (09/08/2013) [-]
I followed the link in his description which only mentioned that it was a center for the hearing impaired. Neither that blog nor the link from the blog to the school's webpage about the event mentions if all of the kids in the room were deaf or not.

I'm not holding it against the OP or anything, generally people imagine complete deafness when talking about events like these, even though hearing impairment covers a wide spectrum of hearing disabilities.
#91 - bigshaft (09/09/2013) [-]
maybe he's so smart he didn't want to hurt the kids feelings so he used a microphone to treat them like any other kids..
User avatar #76 - dementedsoul (09/09/2013) [-]
I'm pretty sure we all had this kind of moment...well...not EXACTLY this kind of moment...but I once pooped in the computer room in kindergarten. Kind of the same, right?

Brother
#7 - qqmumu (09/08/2013) [-]
Actually it couldn't make more sense, cause the microphone is connected to their CI, cochlear implant, to help them hear what you are saying.
#81 - sliferzpwns (09/09/2013) [-]
Some deaf child programs have children go to music festivals, concerts, or even reading/presentation events like this one. The children then hold a inflated balloon in their hands, so that they can feel the sound vibrations and get some idea of what sound really is.
User avatar #78 - lesrin (09/09/2013) [-]
anyone else read the story off the board? cus im suprised they let him tell deaf kids his story
User avatar #79 to #78 - robtowner (09/09/2013) [-]

what the **** did he do to cover up his mistake?

grabbing his hand?

thats absolutely the worst way to handle that situation
User avatar #99 to #93 - wizzerdofaus (09/09/2013) [-]
no, he grabbed his hand so the blind guy knew where his hand was, and he said "I'm giving you a high five." Then they actually did high five:
